<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
On a donc r = R sin Ó,
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Device for stabilizing the distance between a tool fixed to the carriage of a machine and the surface of the workpiece.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to machine control devices, and in particular to devices for stabilizing the distance between a tool attached to the carriage of a machine, in particular the cutting torch of an oxy-fuel cutting machine, and the surface of the machine. room.
Devices are known for the stabilization of. the distance between the cutting torch fixed to the carriage of an oxycutting machine, and the surface of the niece, in which a detector of the position of the torch relative to the surface of the work, linked to the control of the carriage, determines the distance between the surface of the workpiece and a mark located at a certain distance from the axis of the torch, this mark being on the surface of the torch or the carriage of the machine.
In the devices cited, the torch position detector relative to the surface of the workpiece comprises only one gauge reacting to variations in the distance between the surface of the workpiece and the mark. As a result of the distance of the mark from the axis of the torch, if the surface of the part is obliquely in relation to the plane perpendicular to the axis of the torch, an error of., Measurement appears. This error also appears in the event of unevenness on the surface of the part? such as :, for example, slag deposits, metal adhesions, etc.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The aim of the present invention is to eliminate the drawbacks mentioned above.
It was therefore a question of creating a device for the stabilization of the distance between the tool fixed to the carriage of a machine, in particular the cutting torch of an oxy-fuel machine, and the surface of the part, which would make it possible to increase the operating accuracy and reliability of the tool stabilization system above the workpiece surface in the event of slag deposits, metal adhesions on this surface, as well as when the workpiece surface and the plane perpendicular to the tool axis are not parallel.
The solution of the problem posed consists of a device for stabilizing the distance between the tool fixed to the carriage of a machine, in particular the torch of an oxycutting machine, and the surface of the workpiece, in which a detector of position of the tool relative to the workpiece surface, linked to the carriage control, determines the distance between the workpiece surface and a mark located at a certain distance from the tool axis, the mark is located on the surface of the tool or on the carriage of the machine, device in which, according to the invention,
the tool position detector is in the form of at least two pairs of gauges monitoring the distance between the workpiece surface and the mark corresponding to each gauge on the surface of the tool or the carriage of the

In the case of the use of gauges for example mechanical, inductive. it is advantageous to fix them to the face of the carriage of the machine along a circumference through the center of which passes the axis of the tool, at approximately equal distances, the places where the gauges are fixed serving as benchmarks.
By virtue of such a constructive embodiment of the device which is the subject of the patent application, an increase in the precision of shaping of the parts is obtained.
The invention is explained below by the description of a concrete embodiment, with the help of the drawings attached to this specification, which represent in:

of the workpiece, will be considered as concerning the stabilization of the distance between the cutting torch '(figure 1) fixed to the carriage 2 of an oxycutting machine (not shown in the drawings), and the surface of a sheet 3 to cut.
The device comprises a detector 4 (FIG. 2) of the position of the cutting torch 1 with respect to the surface of the sheet 3 to be cut, connected by a power amplifier 5 to the actuator 6 of the carriage 2 of the machine. oxycutting, moving the torch 1 along its axis.
The torch 1 position detector 4 with respect to the surface of the sheet 3 to be cut comprises four pairs of mechanical gauges 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14, fixed to face 15 (figure 1) of the carriage 2, along a circumference 16 (figure 2) through the center of which passes the axis of the torch 1, at approximately equal distances from each other; (the circumference 16 and the axis 17 of the torch 1 are shown in a conventional manner in FIG. 2).

four pairs of gauges, the respective markings "-a.e-c1iii" which coincides with the face 15 of the carriage 2 of the oxycutting machine.
However, other alternative embodiments of the device according to the invention can be proposed, in which the detector 4 for the position of the cutting torch
1 relative to the surface of the sheet 3 to be cut may include two pairs of gauges, three pairs of gauges, etc.
These gauges can be mounted at another location, but, in all cases, they must monitor the distance between the surface of the sheet 3 to be cut and the mark corresponding to each gauge. These marks must be located on the surface of torch 1 or carriage 2 of the flame-cutting machine, approximately in the same plane perpendicular to the axis 17 of the torch 1, but on either side of this axis and at some distance from him. In this case, the inputs of the "OR" doors must be connected to the outputs of the corresponding reference gauges located on either side of the axis 17 of the torch 1.
The principle of operation of the proposed device consists of the following.
In the event that the gauges 7 to 14 do not touch the surface of the sheet 3 to be cut, there is no signal at their output, and therefore, there is no signal at the output of the door "AND" 22. The actuator 6 of the carriage 2 moves the torch 1 with the position detector 4 towards the surface of the sheet 3 parallel to the axis 17 of the / torch 1. At the instant when. gauges, for example gauge 7, touch the surface of sheet 3 to be cut, it appears
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
a signal at the output of this gauge. Consequently, this signal also appears at the output of the "OR" gate 18.
If the gauges on any of the halves of the circumference 16 touch the sheet 3, the signals will appear at the outputs of all the "OR" gates.
18 to 21. These signals drive, through the "AND" gate 22, the input of the power amplifier 5, the output signal of which controls the actuator 6 of the carriage 2. The actuator 6 of the carriage 2 moves the torch 1 with the position detector 4, away from the sheet 3 to be cut, parallel to the axis 17 of the torch 1.
In the event of disturbance of the parallelism between the surface of the sheet 3 to be cut and the plane perpendicular to the axis 17 of the torch 1, the position detector 4 operates as described above. The signal does not appear or disappear at the exit of the "AND" gate 22 until the instants when any fourth gauge located on any half of the circumference? 6: touches the plate 3, or at the instants where this gauge is raised.
Therefore, any group of four gauges located on any half of the circumference 16s is equivalent to a single gauge located at a distance from the axis 17 of the torch 1 smaller than the radius R, which is explained by FIG. 3, and consequently, it measures with greater precision the distance between the torch 1 and the surface of the sheet 3 to be cut.
Let ab be the projection of the line of greatest slope lying in the plane of the sheet 3 to be cut, on the plane perpendicular to the axis 17 of the torch. The axis of the cha-
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
lumen 1 moves from a to b, getting closer to the surface of the sheet 3.
In this case, the first signal that will appear will be that delivered by the gauge 13. The signal delivered by the gauges 8, 11 and 10 will then appear. If the equivalent gauge were placed on ab, the appearance of the signals would correspond to the situation of the equivalence gauge at points 2324, 25 and 26. In this way, this group of gauges 11, 13, 8 and 10 can Hearth replaced by an equivalent gauge which would be located at point 26. The contact of the other gauges 9, 7,
14 and 12 with the surface of the sheet metal 3 does not occur, because the actuator 6 of the carriage 2 will raise the torch 1 with the position detector 4.
The position of said equivalent gauge is determined by the angular position of ab within the limits of the central angle formed by the radii R of the circumference 16 passing through the gauges 13 and 8.
We denote by Ó the smallest angle between ab and one of the indicated radii R, and we determine the distance r (proportional to the measurement error) between the axis 17 of the boiler 1 and the point 26 The angle between the radius passing through the gauge 10 and the line connecting the gauge 10 to the points 26 is also equal to Ó. because the sides of said angles are mutually perpendicular. We therefore have r = R sin Ó,
Since this expression is the equation of a circle with radius 1 whose centra is at point 27 in polar coordinates.
the center of which coincides with the axis 17 of the torch 1, the locus of the position points of the equivalent gauge on ab during the rotation of all the
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
gauges 7 to 14 around the torch axis 17, can easily be found by constructing the circumferences of radius% having their centers at points 27 to 34.
As the drawing shows, the maximum value of ce is equal to the half of the central angle formed by the rays R passing through two neighboring gauges.
For four pairs of gauges 7-8, 9-10 11-12 and 13-14:
EMI9.1
r¯ = R sin 8.2 0.38 R
As the number of gauge pairs increases, rmax decreases rapidly. Thus, for six pairs of gauges rmax = R sin 360/122 = 0,26R max son 12.2 that is to say that, practically, the equivalent gauge is located under the torch 1, in the zone of the flame, this which results in a reduction in the measurement error, when in reality the gauges are in a safe area, at a sufficiently large distance from the torch flame.
The device according to the invention ensures increased precision in maintaining the distance between the cutting torch and the surface of the sheet to be cut, including near the edges of the sheet.
