<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

<Desc/Clms Page number 16>

.Press for vulcanizing 'pneumatic tires'
The present invention relates to presses for the vulcanization of pneumatic tires, and also to member assemblies intended for these presses.
The presses for vulcanizing pneumatic tires, equipped with a straight diaphragm bending assembly mounted in the lower section of the mold, are generally inherently complex in nature, due to the problems of loading a carcass. unvulcanized pneumatic tire on this assembly and by demolding the vulcanized tire therefrom. A vulcanized tire must not only be demolded axially with respect to the straight diaphragm assembly, but must also be moved away and laterally cleared from this straight diaphragm assembly and from the lower section of the mold, before the cycle loading operation. next may

of. mandrel. The extension, caused by the aforementioned 50.8 mm stroke, forces the elbow lever 53 to pivot on the upper pivots by radially and outwardly moving the planar segments of the mandrel. Of course, the entire assembly is vertically movable six by means of the ejector piston cylinder 42. the lower claw ring 56 cooperates with a diffusion ring 57, substantially conical and consisting of cast iron, with a view to fixing the annular heel 58 of the lower open end of the membrane B therebetween.
As clearly shown in FIG. 4, the heel 58 is housed in an annular recess 59 included between the claw ring 56 and the diffusion ring 57, where. it is deformed by sealed contact with the claw ring 56 and the diffusion ring 57 by the engaging action of a split ring 60 which presses the heel 58 against a shoulder 61 of the outer surface of the diffusion ring. The shoulder 63 of the lower claw ring 56 serves as a stop for the split ring 60.
The lower end of the diffuser ring 57 is screwed together with a vertically extending cylinder 65 and supported at its lower end by a vertically adjustable bar 66. A piston 67 and a rod or bar 68 are provided in the cylinder 65. 1a. bar 68 vertically passes through the seal 69 of the end of the bar of the cylinder 65 and its upper end is connected to the socket 70.
This sleeve 70 encloses the underside of the element 71 molded in the form of a scale of the membrane B. The element 7.1 molded in the form of a sleeve comprises another sleeve: II. opening upwards and the shape of which corresponds to that of the pilot cone 51, so that the sleeve 70 encloses not only the sleeve-shaped element 71 of the membrane B, but also 1 pilot cone 51 of the member of actuation of the chuck of the section
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
upper mold, thereby ensuring proper centering of the diaphragm B with respect to the tire casing and the mold sections and also preventing non-uniform elongation of the diaphragm during,
swelling. Further, a screw 73 or similar type of fastener can be used to attach the membrane element 71 to the bar 78, in order to ensure a proper relationship between them, and a recess 74 can be. made in the cone .21 for the reception of the head of the -via 73 (see figure 1).
The bar 68 and the sleeve 70 mounted at the end thereof, thus maintain the diaphragm B in a proper position centered with respect to the tire and the molds.
Pressurized air is introduced downstream of piston 67 to force or constrain membrane B axially and vertically at all times. the vertical adjustment of the support bar 66 by the transmission 75, by means of a suitable wrench or a rotary tool; causes the cylinder 65 to rise, and thus brings the diffusion ring 57 into the position shown in FIG. 5, in order to allow the heel. 21 of the membrane B to be moved away from its position situated between the claw ring interior
56 and the diffusion ring 57.
The split ring 60 is housed in an annular groove 76 of the diffuser ring 57, the width of which is somewhat greater than the thickness of the split ring, so that during the initial vertical displacement of the diffuser ring , the split ring remains fixed to release the pressure exerted on the heel 58 of the membrane. When the split ring comes into contact with the lower wall 77 of the groove 76 it is nevertheless supported by the diffusion ring
57, to force the heel 58 of the diaphragm B to move away @ upwards from the lower claw ring 56.
In this raised position, the heel 58 of the membrane can easily be
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
away from its position between the shoulder 61 and the rendered ring 60, and the membrane can be separated from the bar 68, with a view to replacing it with another membrane, if this proves necessary. when the heel 58 of the new diaphragm is located between the shoulder 61 and the ring 60, the cylinder 65 and the diffusion ring 57 are lowered to force the heel 58 to fit between the lower claw ring 56 and the ring diffusion 57, from the conical outer surface
78 of the lower claw ring.
The continued lowering of the diffusion ring 57, after placing the split ring 60 in contact with the stopper 63, causes the heel 58 to deform between the shoulder 61 and the ring 60, according to a sealed contacting. to the fluids of the diffusion ring 57 with the claw ring 56, as mentioned above. The upper wall 79 of the groove 76 limits the movement of the split ring 60 towards the shoulder 61 and thus controls the magnitude of the deformation of the heel 58.
Diffusion ring 57 includes an inlet 81 and an annular chamber with diffusion passages extending therebetween to the upper edge of the ring. A cooling water-vulcanizing agent or a vacuum can thus be introduced or established in this way, respectively, in the membrane.
A slightly modified assembly of the central bar is shown in Figure 2, depending on a partially open position of the press. The diffusion ring 82 is reproduced in a somewhat reduced form, compared to the diffusion ring 21., and its lower end is connected by screwing to a cylindrical and elastic retainer 83, the lower end of which is welded. to the guide sleeve. tubular 84 via a ring 85.
The bottom of the tabular guide sleeve 84 is welded to the bar 86 by
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
the intermediate ring 87 and the entire assembly can be adjusted vertically by the transmission 88, so that the heel 58 of the membrane B is clamped between the claw ring 56 and the diffusion ring 82, or is separated of these rings by distance, similar to the embodiment of the figure
1.
The upper part 89 with the reduced diameter of the bar
86 is threaded, as indicated by the reference number 90, and a stroke adjusting nut 91 is fitted to this part. A guide tube 92 is provided so as to effect a sliding movement in the tubular guide sleeve 84 and the rear end of this guide tube is provided with an annular stop ring 93. The upper end of the guide tube is provided. guide tube 92 is fixed on the sleeve 70 supporting the element 71 molded in the form of a sleeve of the membrane B. A screw 95 secures the element 71 on the sleeve 70. A compression spring 94 is disposed between the bottom of the elastic retainer 83 and the flange 96 at the upper end of the guide tube 92, on which the sleeve 70 is mounted.
The spring 94 thus constrains or forces the membrane to occupy its inflated position shown, allowing a slight elongation of the membrane beyond its molded state.
During the opening of the press, the pilot cone 51 is elongated, by the cylinder and piston assembly 49, over the distance necessary to bring the plane segments 54 of the mandrel below the upper bead of the pneumatic tire T , as shown in Figure 2 ,. to ensure that the tire is dragged by the upper mold section 15, when the press opens.
The extension of the pilot cone 51 moves the diaphragm B downward an approximate distance of 50.8 mm, to create a space to allow the planar segments 54 of the mandrel to extend below the upper bead of the mandrel. pneumatic tire, j
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
When the press is open, the piston 67 of the embodiment of Figure 1 and the spring 82 of the embodiment of Figure 2 are forced and hold the upper part of the diaphragm against the pilot cone 51, releasing thus the pneumatic tire of the membrane.

128 and the pilot cone 127 olavé thereon as a result of the actuation of the pneumatic cylinders 145 imparting an oscillating movement to the planar segments 126 of the mandrel, as mentioned above.
The entire assembly of the mandrel 12 '). Then, the planar segments 126 of the mandrel are tightened to release the pneumatic tire and bring it onto the discharge conveyor 122.
It is obvious that the loading and shaping operations can vary widely with regard to the tire manufacturers. Therefore, when the loading and unloading take place simultaneously or even partially during the closing of the press, it is quite certain that the vulcanized pneumatic tire can be demolded from the straight membrane and discharged at the same time as the unvulcanized pneumatic tire. C is brought over the vertical membrane, so that the press is only opened for a short time.
In addition, the load member and the upper mold section of the discharge member, reciprocally adapt to the bush of the bar and to the molded part 65 of the membrane to achieve -

precise and safe centering during loading, unloading and shaping. As the diaphragm is extended to grip the pneumatic tire, the upper mold section moves axially downward from the position shown in Figure 2, for example by compressing the pneumatic tire between the mold sections to achieve the form of bandage shown in Figure 1.
Due to the firm support of the diaphragm at its upper end, the diaphragm cannot move relative to the bar and the entire assembly is held centered with the load member and upper mold section. . Firm support of the diaphragm by the bar also provides a long service life for this diaphragm and the simplified mounting of the bar allows the diffuser ring to move vertically to quickly remove and replace the diaphragm when needed.
