<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Patent for an "Apparatus for multiplying the force applied to a rope".
The device is made of a sheet of red copper of 5 mm. thick; folded and drilled to give it the shape shown on page 1 of the drawings; a cylindrical piece of red copper is attached to it, and welded or riveted, a 22 VB thread. is practical, so as to receive a screw and a retaining washer.
Page 2 of the drawings shows the arrangement of the various elements.
The part e / is introduced during assembly between the base a '/ and the winding drum a / of a ratchet or winch capstan, in this drum or its / base a groove has been made, allowing the part c / pivot freely around the capstan axis, without it being able to escape up or down.
In b /, in the part e / is mounted a cleat-cleat, the latter part can be replaced by any other device allowing a rope da sliding in one direction and not in the other.
In c / is mounted a crazy roller, held by a washer and a via. The purpose of this roller is to prevent, as a result of vibrations, the whole apparatus pivoting around its axis and the rope unwinding, it also serves as a stop, during operation of the apparatus.
The hook d / is formed by bending the sheet metal, its purpose is to prevent the line from being released from the cleat-cleat b / by a wrong operation. This hook can be replaced by any attached part in a material having sufficient mechanical strength, and securely assembled on the part e /; it can in certain cases be deleted or replaced by one or more guide rollers.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The red copper, because of the ease with which it is' worked, was adopted for this realization which is artisanal.
It goes without saying that any other material, metallic as well as natural or synthetic, would be suitable as long as its resistance is sufficient.
This device has been designed for application to a pleasure boat of a model determines.
Depending on the intended use of it, its shape can be changed both in the lever arms and in the angles at which it can work.
It is possible to omit certain parts thereof, for example the stop roller c / or the hook d /, or to modify their fixing.
Other parts can be added, for example a pinch stopper at the inlet of the appliance, as long as it is not integral with the part o / it will in no way alter the operation of the appliance, and in this case, the capstan drum should no longer be a ratchet.
The assembly between the base a '/ and the drum a / a adopted both from the point of view of ease of construction (artisanal) that nour allow orientation in all the sound systems of the apparatus. Any other assembly, provided that the pivot axis of the part e / coincides with the axis of the capstan a / a '/ would not change the qualities of the device. Dan @ te ca; or these axes would not coinoidate there would be a variation in the force to be applied, and a greater difficulty in orienting the device
The capstan drum can be smooth, grooved, grooved, milled, frosted or covered with a non-slip material.
The direction of rotation of the drum and of the whole apparatus can be reversed.
In short, we can make to this device all the modifications that its use would require, as well on any other type of boat as in industry, crafts, mechanics, agriculture, transport, handling etc.

Description of the funciionu ;; ', G, 1; Figure 1 from page 3 of the drawings.
We take in hand the rope e / sux which we want to exert traction, passing between the roller c / and the winding drum of the capstan a /, we wind a dead turn around this drum a /; (for the

clarity of the drawing, only the axo of. rope has '' the eprúcontú on this part); then we introduce the rope between the teeth of the thimble cleat b /, and we ¯.lixso the nroc d /. The apparatus oBt alorvpi, 0t 1; function.
We start by catching up the slack in the rope by pulling in f /.

The rope being stretched, we move its end <3 f / in the direction of the arrow ge /, as well as the whole piece. The drum has /, being

The assembly is brought into the position of FIG. 2.

EMI4.5
We 1 <lead the encen'ble towards the position of the. figure 1 by exerting a slight traction on the rope f / in the direction of the arrow il, and by rotating the assembly in the direction of the arrow {SI. The

drum a /, made integral with the base of the key, bestan by its ratchet, cannot rotate in the direction of the arrow h /. To release the rope, it suffices, after having disengaged it from the hook d / to pull a ploughshare upwards, which tara it to escape the teeth of the
