<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>
<Desc/Clms Page number 17>
<Desc/Clms Page number 18>

<Desc/Clms Page number 22>
<Desc/Clms Page number 23>
<Desc/Clms Page number 24>
<Desc/Clms Page number 25>

Cookie cutter for drilling gas pipes and mounting branches,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to multi-stage punches for drilling pipes, which uniformly retain the test piece or cut-out in metallic pipes containing fluids, which do not break during drilling of metal pipes, which are harder. that metal drills, which can be used successfully to drill assorted types or sizes of metal pipe requiring a sufficiently low torque, and can be manufactured commercially at a competitive price, that is, that is to say, reasonably low, Since the distribution of gas has been carried out by public companies,
it has been necessary to drill gas pipes to make connections for industrial establishments and residences.
In the past, gas was manufactured and distributed at low pressures, usually less than 0.07 kg / cm2.
Drilling a low pressure gas line did not present any serious problem. It was not necessary to use elaborate means to contain the gas so that it could not escape during the time interval. necessary to make the hole and complete the connection of the pipes, since the quantity of gas escaping was much too small. However, the perforation devices used were large and bulky because relatively large holes had to be made in these low pressure conduits to allow sufficient gas flow.
With the advent of natural gas, distribution pressures have increased sharply. In general, natural gas came from areas far from consumption areas and, therefore, it was necessary to route the gas under
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
high pressures in transport pipelines in open country. Since the gas was arriving at high pressures of the order of, say, 7 to 21 kg / cm2, distribution companies used the gas at this pressure or at partially reduced pressures which were still much higher than the low pressures initially used to deliver the manufactured gas to the bypass line.
Making a bore, that is, a service connection in a high pressure gas line requires that the gas be regulated or contained during the piercing operation. Besides the danger of escaping gas under high pressure, the loss of released gas would be significant. It is not possible to break the gas line during drilling as the gas supplying the consumers would be interrupted.
Therefore, the perforation must be performed under high pressures while the gas flow continues uninterrupted.
Prior to the present invention, methods had been developed with a fair degree of convenience, but not without problems, for piercing high pressure steel gas distribution lines. Usually, a T-fitting was used which was welded or clamped to the distribution line, and an expensive and bulky drilling device with a drill bit disposed in a T-fitting was connected to the fitting and was used. used to make the hole in the pipe wall. A stuffing box or valve arrangement was / was used to contain the gas after the hole had been made and the wick had been removed.
These drilling devices were expensive and costly to maintain. They required a @@@ retain @t a replacement of some parts. @@@ were,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
also relatively painful to place and use in the field of use and their use required continuous handling which occupied both hands of the user. The trimmings and cutouts necessarily formed by the bit to make the hole entered the pipeline where their presence posed a latent problem from the point of view of fouling and plugging of various openings required for routing. gas without interruption,
and interfered with the operation of the device and the regulating valves. These problems have existed at least since 1929. The need for a more practical, cheaper and safer device for making service taps has therefore existed for several years.
Although more recently other less expensive, less bulky and easily implemented metal pipe drilling tools, such as the punch disclosed in U.S. Patent No. 2 990 731 granted July 4, 1961 to Patterson D. Merrill, et al, were found to be usable in not allowing clippings to enter the pipe, these devices, during their drilling operation, deposited a test piece or piece. - this cut in the pipe so that an unwanted foreign body thus entered the pipe.
The use of these punches involved the cold upsetting of the metal from the pipe as the punch was advanced axially through the pipe and could be conveniently called stamping although the term stamping was used. has also been used to describe this metal forming operation.
Several efforts have been made so far to develop dies capable of piercing metal pipes, which not only form a test or @@@@ e @@@ cut during drilling. or @@ l'ember-

weaving of the pipe, but also retain the cut or stamped specimen on the outside of the pipe.
Unfortunately, these numerous devices have not been found to be completely satisfactory during their operation due to their inability to ensure retention and withdrawal of the test piece from the pipe, their tendency to rupture in certain cases. drilling operations, manufacturing problems (eg, heat treatment problems, problems of economical manufacture desired according to the specification etc), as well as the application of an undesirably large torque required for carry out the desired drilling or stamping operations.
The longitudinally extending pipe punches of the present invention are made of metal, and are capable of retaining the specimen, i.e., the cut piece, minimize the various disadvantages inherent in other metal pipe drilling tools. The punches according to the present invention are able to easily form a test piece by stamping while uniformly ensuring the certain retention of the test piece in the punch when the latter is withdrawn from the punch. the opening formed in the perforated metal pipe.
Furthermore, the metal punches of the present invention can pierce openings of assorted gauges in cross section (for example, openings of 6.35 mm, 9.525 mm and 2.7 mm in diameter), are harder than the metal pipe which is perforated, are able to be used to perforate metal pipes without breaking, can be used successfully to perforate assorted types or sizes of metal pipes, such as only pipes, requiring only a sufficiently low torque, and can be manufactured commercially
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
at a competitive price, that is, at a reasonably low price.
The cookie cutters of the present invention work satisfactorily with difficult-to-puncture steel gas lines, such as a 10.16 cm Milwaukee pipe having a wall thickness of about 6.35 mm, at least. which a T-hole fitting was attached by acetylene welding.
The present invention therefore provides a substantially tubular punch capable of retaining the test piece for piercing a metal pipe or the like, this punch having primary and secondary piercing parts, the secondary piercing part having a larger diameter. larger than and separated from the primary piercing portion, but at a sufficiently close distance to emboss the sides of the opening of a piercing member enough to permit removal of a specimen held in the punch through the opening stamped or stamped by the aforementioned drilling parts.
The present invention also provides a pipe drilling assembly capable of retaining a test specimen, for perforating an opening in a metal-walled pipe used for the transport of fluids, this assembly comprising a T-fitting which can even be attached to a pipe. with a metal wall containing a fluid, which must be perforated, and with a bypass pipe, the T-fitting having a longitudinal tubular part which can be attached to the pipe at its inner end, internal threads at its other outer end or in the vicinity of this end,
and a lateral tubular part extending intermediate between the ends of the aforesaid longitudinal tubular part and

which is able to be connected to a bypass pipe, a metal punch, with multiple stages, capable of retaining a test piece, of substantially cylindrical shape and extending longitudinally, this punch part comprising an elongated tool part which is made of steel which is longer than the pipe to be drilled and which requires low torques, this tool having at its internal drilling end an axial bore to retain a specimen formed in the pipe during drilling by the tool,
external threads at its other external end or in the vicinity of the latter, to be able to be screwed into the internal threads of the T-fitting and to allow, by rotation, an axial advance of the tool towards the pipe to be drilled and axial withdrawal of the latter by rotation in the opposite direction, this tool comprising a primary piercing part at its piercing end and a secondary leaking piercing part, these two piercing parts forming an opening in the pipe by axial displacement towards the latter and inside the latter, the secondary drilling part having an external gauge in cross section sufficient to widen the opening made in the pipe previously by the primary drilling part,
the secondary piercing part being disposed behind the primary piercing part, separate and spaced from the latter, but at a sufficiently close distance to enlarge the sides of the opening previously opened by the primary piercing part, and secondary drilling part making through the thickness of the pipe wall an enlarged opening which is large enough to allow the test piece retained in the aforesaid bore, which test piece has a part
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
which is wider in cross section than the opening formed by the primary bore portion and smaller in cross section than the enlarged opening last formed by the secondary bore portion,
to be withdrawn with the holder from the pipe through the enlarged opening.
The invention further relates to the method of drilling in several phases a metal-walled pipe containing a fluid in which a test piece is formed during the making of the opening in the pipe and the test piece is then removed from the pipe. 'inside the pipe after the opening has been widened, this method comprising providing a substantially cylindrical, longitudinally extending, multi-stage, specimen-retaining punch,
such that this punch extends approximately perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of an elongated pipe and co-operates in threads with means to facilitate axial movement of the piercing end of the pipe. punch selectively in order to bring it into contact with the pipe or to separate it from the latter by rotation in one direction and in the opposite direction of the punch, the latter being made of steel which is harder than pipe and requires low torque / torque, the punch having a primary bore portion and an axial bore capable of retaining the test piece at its piercing end, as well as 'a secondary leakage drilling part,
the secondary piercing part having an outer cross-sectional gauge sufficient to widen the opening made in the pipe previously by the primary piercing part, the secondary piercing part being disposed behind the primary piercing part, separated and spaced of the latter but at a sufficiently close distance to be able to widen the sides of the opening previously made by the part of

primary bore, this secondary bore portion constituting an enlarged opening through the thickness of the wall of the pipe which is large enough to allow the test piece to be securely retained in the bore,
which specimen has a portion which is larger in cross section than the opening made by the primary bore portion and smaller in cross section than the enlarged opening made by the secondary bore portion, to be removed with the punch -piece of the pipe through the enlarged opening, to rotate and axially advance the punch in contact with the pipe and to continue this movement in order to advance the parts of / bore of the punch in the wall of the pipe by stamping or stamping, which causes the metal of the pipe to enter the hole of the punch to thereby form a substantially mushroom-shaped specimen with a tail which is retained in the die. bore and a head placed on the end of the punch, which head is wider than the shank,
this head of the test piece being formed by an interior part of the perforated pipe and having a cross-sectional gauge larger than the opening made by the primary piercing part, to continue to rotate the punch and thereby axially advancing the secondary piercing part so that this secondary piercing part makes an enlarged opening through the thickness of the wall of the pipe, which opening is wider than the head of the specimen. , and to reverse the direction of rotation of the punch to remove the latter from the opening of the pipe made and enlarged with the test piece held firmly by the bore of the punch.
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
Briefly, the multi-stage, cylindrical or tubular, longitudinally extending, cylindrical or tubular, cylindrical or tubular punchers according to the present invention may include among other things a longitudinal bore which receives the test piece (sometimes referred to as a stopper. ) and a primary or leading piercing or stamping part at its piercing end,
as well as a secondary or leakage piercing or stamping shoulder disposed behind the primary piercing portion but at a sufficiently close distance to emboss and sufficiently widen the sides of the opening initially formed in the metal pipe by the primary piercing part in order to allow the metal specimen formed by the material of the pipe and firmly fixed in the aforesaid bore to be withdrawn from the perforated pipe with the punch through the opening enlarged. At least a portion of the specimen has a cross section which generally exceeds that of the initial opening formed by stamping or stamping under the action of the primary piercing portion; however, the enlarged opening is in cross section wider than the specimen.
It has been found that it is very advantageous to arrange the two piercing or stamping parts sufficiently close to each other to allow the secondary stamping part to begin its widening in cross section. - The of the opening formed by the primary piercing part before this last piercing part has completed its stamping operation over the entire thickness of the wall of the pipe and before the required torque does not significantly decrease. The opening is widened over the entire thickness of the pipe wall.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
A tapered stop shoulder is preferably disposed at the rear of the secondary piercing portion and, when the punch is advanced axially towards the pipe and into the latter a sufficient distance, the portion of stop is based in the upper or outer peripheral part of the enlarged opening. Thus, the stopper portion and the enlarged opening can be used to provide a valve which seals the opening and thereby prevents the escape of gas or other fluid from the pipe.
The type of metal and the hardness of the metal used to form the various piercing parts of the punch, as well as certain dimensional gauges and shapes of the punch have been shown to be important in contributing to the characteristics of the punch. yield sought and satisfied by the cookie cutter according to the invention. All these elements are highlighted in the remainder of this memorandum.
The invention will be better understood in the light of the following description made with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 is a partial front and vertical sectional view, illustrating the punch for drilling holes. pipes, which is capable of retaining the test piece, according to the present invention, and the test piece or retaining cutout mounted in a T-fitting having a longitudinal tubular part attached to the perforated metal pipe and a lateral tubular part which is connected to a bypass line. tion (partially shown);

Reference is now made to the drawings where like reference notations denote corresponding parts; and first of all more particularly in FIG. 1; FIG. 1 shows a tubular T-shaped bore connection 20 into which is screwed a tubular or cylindrical punch 40, with multiple stages, capable of retaining a specimen or cut-out piece and extending longitudinally, T 20 has a longitudinal tubular part 21 which can be suitably attached to a pipe at its lower or inner end, and internal threads 22 as well as external threads 23 at its other, upper or lower end. exterior.
The lower end of the T-fitting 20 is shown attached and sealed to the pipe 30 containing gas or other pressurized fluid by a welded joint 31. If desired, the T-fitting can be attached to the pipe by the 'Via a collar connection (not shown) or by other suitable means. A part
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
lateral tubular 24 protrudes from the longitudinal portion 21 midway between its ends and can be sealed to a bypass pipe 27 by a welded joint 28 or by other suitable means.
A removable cover 25 with internal threads 26 is screwed to the external threads 23 of the T-fitting.
Figure 1 shows the head 72 of a test piece with a cutout 70 of metal (see figure 6) formed by the holder 40 in the pipe 30, this test piece being held in the cylindrical and concentric bore. axially 61 of the punch (see figure 2) on the lower or inner end, that is, on the piercing end, of the punch, after the retaining specimen 70 has been removed by the punch 40 from the pipe 30 through an enlarged opening 33 formed in the pipe by the punch.
The substantially cylindrical punch 40, which extends longitudinally and which is able to retain the test piece, has two parts of steel, namely, a base part or substantially cylindrical upper or outer body 41 firmly. attached to a combined drilling and stopping tool: 46, which is lower, substantially cylindrical and has stages or steps. The upper or outer portion of the body 41 has outer threads 42 which cooperate with the inner threads 22 of the T-fitting 20, and a non-circular inner socket, for example, a hexagonal socket 43, to receive a wrench. or a tool (not shown which can be inserted therein to rotate the entire punch 40 and thereby provide for its axial and longitudinal advancement and withdrawal in the T-fitting 20.
The lower or internal end of the body 41 has a cylindrical sleeve 44, which receives the externally fluted cylindrical collar 47 or
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
Knurled tool 46, which is disposed at the top or outer end thereof. Collar 47 is somewhat larger in diameter than bush 44. It is desirable that collet 47 or disposed within the entire length of the socket 44. The two parts are shown in Figure 1 firmly fitted under pressure and locked together. Bushing 44 and collar 47 form an integral unit and prevent the two parts from rotating relative to each other during axial displacement, rotation and operation of the drill punch.
Other means can be used to secure these parts together and, if desired, the punch 40 can be formed in one piece rather than multiple parts attached to each other. other.
The outi. 46 is harder than the metal pipe or structure to be perforated, has a Rockwell C hardness of approximately
54-59 and is made of impact resistant steel with the designation A.I.S.I. is S2, for example, the steel sold by
Carpenter Steel Co. under the name "Solar".
Reference is now made more particularly to FIGS. 1 to 6; the tool 46 comprises a cylindrical collar 47, a large caliber cylindrical barrel 48, an intermediate barrel
51 and a cylindrical barrel of reduced caliber 55. These barrels 48,
51 and 55 are connected to each other by conical shoulders. More particularly, the large caliber barrel 48 is connected to the intermediate barrel 51 by a frustoconical stop shoulder 50 which is able to be housed in a sealed manner against the upper or outer, peripheral and frustoconical lip 34 of the enlarged opening, which is formed in the metal pipe 30 by the tool 46 during the drilling of the pipe 30 and the advancement of the stop shoulder (see Figure 9).
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
The intermediate shank 51 is in turn connected to the reduced caliber shank 55 by a drilling or stamping, secondary or trailing shoulder 52 which has a conical appearance (about 25 to 50 with respect to the axis) and which widens the opening made in the metal pipe 30 by the primary or leading piercing or stamping portion 56 at the lower or inner piercing end, i.e., at the end. of the tool 46.
The secondary piercing portion has a series of converging stamping ridges 53 and 54 (refer to Figures 2 and 3) having a cross section :, that is to say, a substantially V-shaped outer profile (see figure 2).
The secondary bore shoulder 52 is tapered and is not circular in cross section along a plane normal to the axis.
The secondary bore shoulder 52 has the approximate appearance of a V, as can be seen in Figure 4, and substantially of a crescent, that is, a convex appearance, when we see it in figure 5.
The V-shaped ridges 53 and 54 are spaced approximately evenly around the periphery around the secondary piercing shoulder 52, as shown in Figure 3. These ridges form a narrow area or line of contact with the bore. the metal wall of the opening formed in the pipe, thereby minimizing the torque required to axially advance the tool 46 through the pipe 30 at the same time as the secondary bore shoulder 52 is drawing to widen the hole. The opening formed by the primary bore portion 56.
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
If desired, the secondary bore shoulder 52 may have only one or more of these V-shaped ridges; however, if more than two of these ridges are used, the latter should preferably be spaced around the periphery about the shoulder approximately evenly.
The primary bore portion 56 disposed on the lower or inner bore end of the tool 46 is axially formed around the hub / bore 61 capable of retaining the specimen by a series of oblique planes which intersect, such as planes 57 and 58 which are offset at an angle (about 5 to 25) approximately evenly from a plane normal to the tool axis.
The narrow annular configuration produced by the presence of the concentric bore 61 at the end of the tool has the role of concentrating the pressure exerted by the axial advancement of the tool 46 in the pipe 30. V-shaped stampings 59 and 60 are formed at the intersection of the oblique planes 57 and 58 and form narrow areas or lines of contact with the metal wall of the pipe 30, thereby further minimizing the torque required for carry out the initial or primary stamping of the pipe ,.
If desired, the primary piercing portion 56 may be formed by more than two intersecting oblique planes and may have more than two V-shaped embossing edges (preferably equally spaced around the end. of the tool), and the edges can be convergent and arranged at an acute angle (about 5 to 25) with respect to a plane normal to the axis of the tool 46. On the other hand, yes. as desired, the primary bore portion 56 may be shaped radially or peripherally to have various angles, provided this does not cause this. no breakage and provided that the required torque is kept sufficiently low during the drilling operation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 18>
The longitudinal bore 61 is at least as long, preferably a little longer, than the wall thickness of the metal pipe 30,
As the tool 46 of the punch 40 is advanced axially into the wall of the pipe 30, the metal of the pipe is caused to enter the bore 61 and ultimately to form a test piece or blank 70 of. general mushroom shape (refer to Figure 6) with a cylindrical shank 71 and an enlarged cylindrical head 72. The head of the specimen 70 has a cross-sectional gauge which is larger than that of the specimen. opening made in the pipe by the primary drilling part 56 and smaller in cross section than the opening made by the secondary drilling part 52.
This allows the specimen 70 to be easily withdrawn from pipe 30 with tool 46 without being dislodged by contacting the walls of enlarged opening 33.
Reference is now made to the reference notations of FIGS. 4 and 5 which relate to the dimensions, in particular the angles; Table A given below indicates dimensions by way of illustration (refer to the corresponding reference notations of figures 4 and 5) as well as the maximum desired torques required for three punch sizes according to the invention (that is, tools with a diameter of 6.35 mm, 9.525, and 12.7 mm) having characteristics such as the torques exerted are sufficiently low.

Before carrying out the drilling,
a thick non-corrosive grease or lubricant should be applied to the stamping parts of the tool. A lubricant in dry form can be used and applied either by dipping or spraying and should be concentrated in the stamping parts, especially on the edges of the piercing parts. A lubricant which has been found to be suitable is molybdenum disulfide suspended in a volatile material. Other suitable lubricants consist of a carrier of synthetic resin-like material in which tiny particles or flakes of copper, lead or lead are suspended.
When operating the apparatus, the longitudinal cylindrical punch 40 is moved axially towards the pipe / metal 30 by inserting a key or similar tool into the socket 43 and rotating the key and 'em- holder. As the piercing tip of tool 46 is advanced into the wall of pipe 30, the main piercing portion 56 of tool 46 brings metal from the pipe to be forced into the hole 61 of the punch. thus forming the tail 71 and the head 72 of the test piece 70.

axial advancement of the tool and before the initial stamping in the pipe wall is complete, the secondary piercing shoulder 52 begins to widen the opening formed by the primary piercing portion 56 so as to give it a cross-sectional caliber which is slightly larger than that of the head 72 of the specimen 70.
After the primary bore portion 56 has formed the specimen 70 and after it has separated from the pipe wall and the secondary bore portion 52 has widened the opening initially formed on the pipe. full length, that is to say, over the full thickness of the opening, the continued advancement of the tool 46 causes the frustoconical stop shoulder 50 to be sealed in the frustoconical lip, that is, in the valve seat 34 formed on the outer or upper periphery of the enlarged opening 33.
When the punch 40 which holds the specimen 70 is subjected to a reverse rotation under the action of the tool or the key, the punch is axially withdrawn and the tool 46 who! The specimen 70 is securely retained and removed from pipe 30 through the enlarged opening 33 without the specimen being dislodged by contact with the enlarged opening.
The enlarged opening 33, which is wider than the head 72 of the specimen 70 and the attachment (apparently at least in part due to the frictional contact of the specimen with the tool) of the specimen 70 in the hole 71 of the punch ensure easy and uniform removal of the test piece from the pipe,
After removal of the punch 40 and the specimen 70 which it retains from the pipe 30, the fluid which is inside the pipe is free to escape through the enlarged opening 33 in the tube. lateral tubular part 24 and in the

Connected branch line 27, as shown in figure 1. The threaded cap 25 can then be screwed onto the outer vests 42, on the upper or outer end of the T-fitting 20 as shown in figure 1.
FIGS. 7 to 10 show in sequence various progressive phases of the axial advance of the tool 46 which performs the drilling and stopping or closing operations, as well as the axial withdrawal of the tool 46 from the pipe 30. More particularly Figure 7 shows a phase of the formation of the tail 71 of the specimen 70 by the primary piercing portion (refer to Figure 8). Figure 8 shows the formation of the initial opening 32, of the test piece 70 as well as a close phase of separation or release of the test piece from the pipe 30 at the very moment when the opening is being widened. under the action of the secondary piercing portion 52. This widening of the opening ultimately results in an opening 33 the cross-sectional size of which exceeds that of the head 72 of the specimen 70, as shown in FIG. 10.
FIG. 9 shows the stopper or frustoconical closure shoulder 50 in an advanced position where it rests in a sealed manner (thus acting as a valve) on the frustoconical lip 34, after the drilling operations and the advancement of the 'stop shoulder. The retained specimen 70 is shown advanced inside the pipe 30. Figure 10 shows the tip of the tool 46 and the retained specimen 70 removed from the pipe 30. Axial withdrawal of the punch 40 which retains the swab 70 can be continued as shown in Figure 1.

Figures 11 through 13 show a modified pipe piercing tool 80 having a modified primary or leading piercing or stamping portion 84 and an axially concentric cylindrical bore 91 thereon. inner or outer piercing end. The modified tool has a primary or leading piercing or stamping portion 84 formed by oblique planes 85 and 86, V-shaped stamping edges 87 and 88, and a pair of oblique parallel chamfered portions. crescent 89and 90. It also has a secondary drilling or stamping or tapered trailing shoulder 81 with V-shaped stamping ridges 82 and 83 which substantially conform to the corresponding shoulder 52 and ridges 53 and 54. shown in Figures 1 to 5.
The modified primary bore portion 84 corresponds to that shown in Figures 2, 4 and 5, except that the mouth or lower end of the bore 91, at the end of the modified tool 80, flares out. slightly outward 92 towards the tip of the tool on the inner peripheral edge of the primary piercing portion 84, and the primary piercing portion has two opposing chamfered, tapered or oblique portions 89 and 90, which may be formed , for example, by bevelling across the outer end portions of the oblique planes 85 and 86.
The outward flaring of the bore 91, which can be achieved by slightly milling the mouth or lower end, is believed to improve retention of the specimen within the bore. The chamfered portions 89 and 90 limit the diameter of the head of the formed specimen.
The modified tool 80 operates substantially as described above with reference to the punch shown in Figures 1-10.

Although the V-shaped stamping edges of the primary and secondary piercing portions of tools 46 and 80 specifically described above are aligned (refer to Figures 3 and 13) if desired, they can be arranged unaligned. (for example, with an offset angle of 90).
CLAIMS.
1.- Substantially tubular punch capable of retaining the test piece in order to pierce a metal pipe or the like, this punch having primary and secondary drilling parts, the secondary drilling part having a diameter greater than larger than and separated from the primary piercing portion, but at a distance close enough to emboss the sides of the opening of a piercing member enough to allow removal of a specimen retained in the punch through the opening stamped or stamped by the aforementioned drilling parts.
