REACTEUR NUCLEAIRE
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

NUCLEAR REACTOR
The present invention relates to nuclear reactors and more particularly to nuclear fast neutron reactors of small dimensions used for example for nuclear propulsion or as an energy source.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention consists of a fast neutron nuclear reactor comprising a vessel containing the fuel and a control rod, characterized in that the vessel provided with numerous radial openings is resiliently pressed against a structure forming a collector for the refrigerant and, that the fuel is located around an axial central oanal in which the control bar is located
The invention will be described below with the aid of a non-limiting example with reference to the figure, which represents a fast neutron nuclear reactor cooled by hydrogen and intended for space propulsion.
The figure shows a tank 1, the flange 2 of which is pressed against a collector 3 and closed by a plug 6. The tank 1 is filled with combustible material 4, excluding a central channel formed by the tube 5. At the Inside the tube 5 is introduced an annular control bar 7 partially filled with fuel. The bar 7 is actuated by a bellows 8, which is compressed under the action of the pressure of the hydrogen.
The collector 3 is surrounded by a radial reflector 9 disposed inside a structure formed by the tubes 10 and 11, connecting to two covers 12 and 13. The cover 12 comprises an enclosure 14 containing the bellows 8. The lower part of the manifold 3 is connected to the nozzle 15. The reference numeral 16 represents an elastic device which on the one hand applies the stack of tank 1, manifold 3 and nozzle 15 against the cover 13 and on the other hand the bouohon 6 against fuel 4.
The hydrogen whose circuit is represented by arrows is admitted into the cover 13 which ensures its diffusion inside the reflector 9. The hydrogen then passes through openings provided in the cover 12 to be conveyed to the center of the bar 7 .
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
A channel 17 in the center of this bar distributes the hydrogen to all levels from where it flows radially through the bar 7 and the fuel 4.
The walls of the bar 7, the tube 5 and the tank 1 have numerous openings allowing the passage of hydrogen. The hydrogen is then collected in the annular space formed between the tank 1 and the collector 3 and flows through the nozzle 15.
The starting of the reactor is obtained automatically during the admission of the hydrogen controlled by a valve (not illustrated).
The hydrogen pressure then causes the introduction of the bar into the core, thus achieving criticality.
On the other hand, during a possible interruption of the hydrogen pressure at the inlet of the core, the bellows 8 automatically recalls the bar 7, which stops the chain reaction.
It is understood that the form of application of the present invention, as described above, is in no way limiting and that various modifications can be made thereto.
Thus, for example, the control bar can be actuated by any other known means.
