EMI1.3
EMI1.4
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

in which R1 and R are identical or different alkyl groups, with a straight or branched chain, of which at least one has 1 to 6 C atoms, and preferably at least one of them has a C atom tertiary or quaternary linked to the aromatic core,
R3 represents -CN or -COOR4, and
R4 is a straight chain, branched, cyclic or arylsubstituted alkyl group,
thioether or ether having a total of 1 to 20 C atoms, for stabilizing organic materials against the action of oxygen, light and heat.
It has been found that these compounds can be obtained in a surprisingly simple manner, with a good yield, when reacting Mannich bases (which can be easily obtained in a manner known per se starting from phenols. , formaldehyde and secondary amines) and having the general formula

CH2-COOR4 (III),.

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Other examples of suitable solvents are: quite normal hydrocarbons, glycol ether and other higher boiling ethers. In addition, the alcohols corresponding to the residue R4 can be used as solvents.
Advantageously, one proceeds by heating one mole 'of the base
EMI3.1
Mannich with one mole of arboxylic acid ester (malonic ester, hydrocyanic acid ester) in the presence of 1 to 20 g. of alkali or alaalino-earth alkoxide in approximately 1 liter of toluol, advantageously in a nitrogen atmosphere, for 2 to 3 hours with reflux, and the reaction solution obtained is treated further in a manner known per se.
After cooling the catalyst is removed (eg, by neutralization with dilute acid and stirring with water), the reaction mixture is dried, the solvent is removed by distillation and the residue is purified. , for example by crystallization. The yield is about 70 to 95% of the theoretical yield.
The smooth course of the reaction was unpredictable,

because according to "H.Hellrann and G. The stabilizing effect was judged from the fragility of the leaves. As can be seen from the table, the stabilizers used according to the invention exceed the effect of known antioxidants. By addition of phosphite, a considerable improvement in the initial color of the extruded plates is obtained.
