<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"Process for preparing a new colored nail varnish".
It is known that the nail vomits used to date are generally solutions of nitro-cellulose comprising a * natural or synthetic resin of plasticizers and solvents, these solutions being oolorded so as to impart the color. desired to varnishes.
The coloring of conventional varnish cases is carried out either with the aid of coloring materials soluble in

the vomit uses, either with the help of color pigments which are suspended in the varnish.
These two known methods of coloring nail polish have drawbacks which the present invention avoids.
In fact, it is necessary to give the clawed vomit the greatest possible brightness and the greatest possible lumino- sity.
This has heretofore been achieved by staining nitro-cellulose solutions with bleaching materials soluble in this medium. We thus obtain a layer of colored but transparent varnish which gives it a very particular celât *
However, oo aède do coloring varnishes can only be used in very particular cases where it is desired to obtain a very weakly colored vornis, that is to say with very pale tints.
In addition, if we try to achieve color variations supported by coloring materials soluble in the varnish, we see that, especially after several repeated applications, the colored material also dissolves in the substance. keratin which constitutes the nail so that after removal of the varnish with the aid of a solvent, the nail remains, for a long period, taohé by the entire coloring which is inadmissible for a normal commercialization of these products.
This is the reason why we are brought to. use to achieve vomit of sustained shades, mineral or organic pigments which constitute a

This drawback worsens considerably when it is desired to produce nacras and colored varnishes because in this case, the opacity conferred on the varnishes by the pigments, masks, to a large extent, the mother-of-pearl effect which is sought.

A mixed colored semi-esters-semiamide polymer is prepared by condensation on a methyl vinyl ether / butyl monomaleate copolymer, known under the trade name of Gantrez AN 3953, of the dye of formula
EMI25.1
by operating as follows!
101 g of an alcoholic solution containing 45.5% of resin known under the trade name of Gantre @ AN 3953 (0, 0) are introduced into a flask with a stirrer, a raflux condenser and a thermometer. 2 mol.g) which is diluted by edition of 67.5 g of ethanol.
15.5 - Le (0.02 mol.g) of the dye, the formula of which is indicated above, was added and the mixture was refluxed for 30 hours.
An alcoholic solution containing 30% of resin colored in rougo is obtained.
It resulted from the analyzes carried out that the fixing efficiency of the dye was 62% relative to the theoretically possible amount.
The colored resin obtained is then separated from the solution which also contains the dye which did not participate in the acidification reaction. For this we add ether to precipitate the colored resin
