<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOPS
FROM CHARLEROI (ACEC)
The subject of the invention is an adjustable thermostatic control device. This device makes use of known fixed response temperature thermostatic switches, at a very low price. The invention makes it possible to open an adjustable device at a moderate price.
It is characterized by a metal bar, a good conductor of heat, one end of which is in contact with a hot object, while the other end, suitably spaced from the hot object, supports the switches.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
thermostatic with a fixed response temperature and by an electric resistance carrying an adjustable current, placed on the end of the bar near the thermostatic switches with a fixed response temperature.
The invention is explained below with reference to two exemplary embodiments, shown in the accompanying drawing.
The examples shown in the drawing represent views of an adjustable thermostatic control device for storage stoves. A metal bar 1 which is a good conductor of heat, consisting of two flats with two bends, made of aluminum, of suitable thickness and width, is driven by one of its ends into the heat insulator 2 of a core of a heat storage stove. The temperature of the hot object, formed by the heat insulator of the heat storage core, is communicated to the entire bar 1, and in particular also to the emerging end of the heat insulator 2, thanks to the good thermal conductivity. of the metal of the bar.
The latter could also be made of silver or copper or a metal having similar characteristics from the point of view of thermal and calorific conductivity.
One or two thermostatic switches 3 with fixed response temperature are applied to the end of the bar 1, emerging from the heat insulator 2. Following the example of fig. 1, two switches 3 are arranged in
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
either side of the bar. Following the example of FIG, 2, a switch 3 is applied to one side of the bar.
Between the two plates constituting the bar 1 is inserted a resistor 4. This resistor is placed vis-à-vis the thermostatic switches 3 and is traversed by a current, adjustable by means of appropriate equipment, not shown.
The power dissipated in resistor 4 by the current flowing through it has the effect of bringing to a higher temperature the end of bar 1 supporting the thermostatic switches 3. As a result, switches 3 engage or trip. for a lower temperature of the heat storage core than that corresponding to their response temperature.
The equipment controlling the current flowing through resistor 4 can be a potentiometer or a more complicated device, supplying a current that is all the higher as the outside temperature is mild.
The adjustable thermostatic control device shown in flg.1 comprises a second pair of thermostatic switches 5 applied on either side of the bar 1. At the location of the thermostatic switches 5, however a resistor 4 n ' is not provided between the two angled flats constituting the bar 1.
It follows that the temperature of the bar l at the location of the thermostatic switches 5 is a little lower than that prevailing at the location of the resistor 4,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
so that the thermostatic switches 5 react with a certain delay compared to the thermostatic switches 3.
The adjustable thermostatic control device shown in fig. 2 comprises a second thermostatic switch 5 placed opposite the thermostatic switch 3. In order to still obtain a delay in switching on or off the thermostatic switch 5 with respect to the thermostatic switch 3, an insulating gasket 6, for example of silicone rubber, is interposed between the resistance 4 and the elbow flat on the side of the thermostatic switch 5.
Each thermostatic switch 5 can be connected in series with a switch 3 and serve as a safety switch. Unlike the usual safety switches, which are insensitive to the setting and switch off only when the upper temperature limit is reached, the safety switches 5 switch off as soon as the switches 3 do not work and the set temperature is slightly exceeded. It should be noted that this advantageous performance is obtained with thermostatic switches which are just as inexpensive as the usual safety switches.
