<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

tined to be transformed into an aerosol, an element covering this nozzle so as to delimit, with the outer wall thereof, a suitable suction chamber having a hole in front of which is placed a jet refractor, the distance of which from of the hole determines the dimensions of the micelles which it is desired to obtain, while, according to the invention, provision is also made for the interchangeability of the cover members of the nozzle with the jet refractor or the possibility of adjusting the position of the refractor from jet relative to the spray hole.
The present invention may be better understood by virtue of the following description given merely by way of indication and consequently without any limitation, with particular reference to the accompanying drawings. In perspective view
FIG. 1 represents / an apparatus according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a section of the assembled apparatus.
FIG. 3 shows, on a substantially enlarged scale, the details of the end zone of the nozzle and of the relative covering element.
An apparatus according to the invention consists essentially of a small cup designated as a whole by 1, it is made of plastic material, in which is embedded or suitably fixed a nozzle 2 having an internal hole.
3, ending at the top with a tronconi end 4, in which a small hole 5 is provided.
The nozzle 2, in its part which extends in the small section, has a flat 7 constituted, for example, by a flat face produced in the cylindrical surface of the nozzle; according to the invention, there is also a cover element for the nozzle, this element being generally designated by the reference 6 and having in its lower part a cylindrical cavity 8 having dimensions corresponding to the external diameter of the nozzle and terminating at its top truncated in 9, the or-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
verture of the angle at the top of this truncated cone being slightly greater than that of the frustoconical end 5 of the nozzle 1.
The cover element 6 of the nozzle 2 has at its base a step 9 which keeps it slightly raised from the bottom of the small cup, so as to form, between the cover element 6 of the nozzle and the small cup 1, a duct 10 for the suction of the product, this duct communicating with the chamber 11 which is formed between the wall of the cover element of the nozzle and the flat 7 of this nozzle., At the upper part, because from the difference in length and the difference in taper between the end 4 of the nozzle and the inner surface 9 of the nozzle cover member, a chamber is formed, the section of which decreases from the bottom to the top .
This chamber, the section of which contracts, ends with the calibrated hole 11 of the cover element of the nozzle, a hole which is in alignment with the axis of the nozzle and therefore also with the terminal hole 5 of the latter. According to the invention, the cover element of the nozzle is further provided with a jet refractor element 12, more particularly of frustoconical shape, arranged in the axial direction with respect to the hole 11 and vis-à-vis it. ci at a suitable distance, distance on which will depend the size, that is to say the dimensions of the micelles obtained.
As a result of numerous tests carried out, it resulted that with a distance of 0.3 mm between the end of the jet refractor and the edge of the hole 11, the dimensions of the micelles are on average between 0.8 and 4 microns (the check having been made at the outlet of tube 13 which will be discussed later). With a distance of 0.7 mm, the micelles have a size of 20-30 microns.
According to the invention, it is therefore possible to provide the apparatus with a series of elements to cover the nozzle 6, each at a determined distance from the jet refractor 12, or else it is possible to pre-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
see a jet refractor element 12, movable thanks for example to a micrometric screw to adjust its position, and for this purpose one can provide an index or gauges inserted between the edge of the hole 11 and the end of the jet refractor,
According to the invention, the small cup 1 can be closed by a cap 15, also of plastic material and provided with a duct 13 for the outlet of the aerosol; the cup and the cap may be provided with engagement elements 16 adapted to make the position of the cup or better still of the tube 13 unique in relation to the angular position of the cover element 6 of the nozzle.
In the solution shown in the figure, this nozzle cover element has a substantially trapezoidal section, the smallest bottom of which is at the bottom. This covering element has a wide milling 20 so as to constitute a projecting roof 21 on which the jet refractor 12 is fixed.
The operation of the apparatus according to the invention is evident from the foregoing explanations and it can be summarized as follows. By means of a pump of the usual type, pressurized air is blown into hole 3 and leaving through hole 5, it creates a vacuum in the chambers between the nozzle and the nozzle cover element, in such a way that the medicinal liquid contained in the small cup is sucked through the channel 10 and the hole 11 and is projected with violence against the jet refractor 12, more particularly frustoconical, thus causing the liquid to break up into small drops having dimensions extremely small, which, as already mentioned, depends on the distance between the jet refractor and the edge of the hole 11.
The dimensions of the micelles will be all the smaller as the distance is short, that is to say the greater the kinetic energy possessed by the liquid at the time of impact.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Although only one embodiment has been described, it will be easy for one skilled in the art to apply many modifications and variations which should be considered within the scope of the invention. It may be noted in particular that the refractor element can be combined or combined with upper disks or elements with a small roof also having functions of selecting the micelles.
