<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention relates to a V-belt speed variator
The main patent relates to a V-belt speed variator for driving a driven shaft with a variable speed of rotation according to a predetermined law and comprising a driving pulley with inextensible groove receiving its movement from a driving shaft and mounted on a motor. shaft carried by a pivotable balance subjected to a spring possibly assisted by a counterweight, a receiving pulley with extendable groove.
mounted on a driven shaft and formed of two conical plates sliding under the action of a displacement means subjected to a drive means constituted by an auxiliary shaft and obeying a control means according to the law to be followed by the speed of the driven shaft, an endless trapezoidal belt passing over the driving pulley and over the receiving pulley, a tension means acting permanently on said belt.
However, in this variator, jerks caused by sudden starts occur; therefore, the driving pulley and its supporting balance suddenly approach the receiving pulley despite the action of the spring, which has the result of momentarily slackening the belt which, consequently, slides on the receiving pulley; This therefore results in a loss of, transient speed and an impact on the belt when the latter is re-tensioned under the effect of the spring and the balance of the balance.
This drawback is particularly harmful when a variator of the above type is used in the textile industry to actuate a spindle bed because, in this case, the jolts cause the yarns subjected to winding to break.
The present improvement, which aims to
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to eliminate the preceding drawbacks, consists in providing in a speed variator of the aforementioned kind, a means of limiting the movements of the balance to the movements imposed by the control means.
According to a particular feature, the means for limiting the movements of the balance is constituted by a flexible element for connecting the balance to the control means; furthermore, this flexible element, such as a cable or a chain, is attached by one end to the balance, passes over a deflection roller and is attached by the other end to the rim of a pulley carried by the shaft auxiliary obedient to means of command *
Other features may appear in the following description of the appended drawings which relate to an exemplary embodiment of the invention.
In these drawings:
FIG. 1 is a front elevational view partially in section of a variator executed according to the invention, the moving parts being in the position corresponding to high speed.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view, on a smaller scale, of the variator of Figure 1, the drive pulley being in a position slightly lower than that of Figure 1.
The constitution and operation of the variator have been described in detail in the main patent, so that it is considered unnecessary to return to them in the following description, which is only intended to assist in the understanding of the invention constituted by the present improvement.
As shown by the figures, to an arm forming the balance 5 carrying the drive pulley 1 with groove, inextensible,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
attached is an end 42a of a cable 42 which passes over a return roller 43, the shaft of which rotates freely in a bearing 44 integral with the frame 10; the other end 42b of the cable 42 is fixed on the rim of a pulley 45 mounted on the auxiliary shaft 27 which tends to rotate clockwise (fig * 2) under the action of the counterweight 32 , by obeying a command, not shown acting by the cable 35.
The cable 42 is wound on at least part of the pulley 45, the diameter of which is chosen so that the length of the cable released by the rotation of said pulley 45 corresponds approximately to the length of cable required by the movements of the balance wheel. which are caused by the trapezoidal belt 6 following the rotation of the auxiliary shaft 27 causing opposite movements of the plates 18 of the receiving pulley.
Given that the cable 42 establishes a connection between the balance 5 and the auxiliary shaft 27, the said balance can no longer suddenly approach the receiving pulley because it is constantly retained by the cable 42 and it can only move slowly. small to the extent permitted by the rotation of the pulley 45 ..
