<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"Automatic drinker for cattle,
Automatic drinkers are known for cattle in which the feed pump is connected to an elongated waterer in the form of a channel. Above the drinker, at a certain distance from it, is installed a pivoting rod actuating the pump. At the end of this rod, situated on the side of the animal seeking to drink, is provided a push plate which the animal can push with the forehead, more or less horizontally forwards, in order to bring water in the trough.
An automatic drinker for cattle is also known, the pump actuating rocking lever of which is provided above a waterer permanently filled with water, at a considerable distance therefrom, and the front end of which has the form a pressure organ, open in the middle, which the animal can push almost vertically downwards, in the direction of the trough, to inflame the water in it.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In automatic drinkers of this kind, the pressure member can also be in the form of a trough-shaped drinker and in this case a particular drinker is omitted. The great disadvantage of the automatic drinkers for cattle mentioned above is that due to the bulk of the pump actuating rod, advancing upwards, they cannot be placed on top of each other for transport, but they must be load side by side, on the bottom of freight cars or trucks. For export, we even have to block the actuating rod of the pump of these automatic drinkers. These drawbacks increase the cost of transporting large quantities of such drinkers to an undesirable extent.
The automatic livestock drinker according to the invention, which eliminates the reported drawbacks, is absolutely flat at the top and resistant, so that several of these can be stacked. This saves space and considerable transport costs, which is particularly important for export.
In addition, the automatic livestock waterer of the invention, closed on all sides against the harmful influences of atmospheric agents, is also completely protected against vermin and in particular against small sick animals seeking to drink.
The object of the invention is characterized by the association of a feed pump, preferably with a membrane, and an elongated drinker, the bottom of which tilts obliquely towards the front part in the form of a bowl, having a minimum depth of at least 70 mm, in which, in order to bring in water, the animal seeking to drink can, with the head, push the pressure organ more or less vertically; the pressure organ is preferably ati

abutment on the pivoting lever of the pump, installed in the bearings of the drinker whose walls do not protrude, and preferably forming a single piece with a cover hinged on the diaphragm pusher and rotatably mounted in bearings to open and close upwards the pump casing on which it is applied.
The accompanying drawing represents an example of the possible forms of the object of the invention.
- Figure 1 shows the automatic drinker for cattle, in profile and in section.
- Figure 2 is a plan view corresponding to Figure 1.
- Figure 3 shows the automatic feeder for cattle in section, with an operating lever for the pump, separate from the cover of the casing thereof.
- Figure 4 shows the plan view corresponding to Figure 3 and an actuating lever in the form of a rod or tube for the pump as well as two plates covering the top of the drinker.
. Figure 5 shows the automatic drinker in cross-section and a bolt connection for attaching the pump housing to the drinker.
- Figure 6 is a plan view corresponding to Figure 5,
The automatic drinker for cattle shown in Figures 1 to 6 comprises a feed pump 1, preferably with a membrane, as well as an elongated drinker 2 with an inclined bottom 3, so that the water supplied into it. -Here, by actuating the pump, it can reach its front part 5, in the form of a bowl, the
5 depth is at least 70 mm.
The front part / of the drinker 2 is located opposite the casing 4 of the

pump, on the side of the animal seeking to drink. The automatic drinker is actuated by means of a lever 7 connected to a pressure member 9 pivoting in the bearing 8 which causes the arrival of water in the drinker 2 when the animal, seeking to drink, pushes the pressure organ, with the head, roughly vertically, into the front part of the trough. The member 9 is preferably articulated in the bearings 6 on the lever 7 for actuating the pump; it has a flattened shape, like a spoon for example, and has perforations 13 at the top.
This member 9 is advantageously provided at the bottom with a flat tank 14, which serves to receive water to encourage the animal to activate the automatic drinker. If necessary, the reservoir 14 is again filled with water from the drinker when the pump is actuated. The lever. 7 for actuating the pump can be in one piece with the cover 10, opening and closing the casing 4 of the pump, which is provided with a counterweight 11 to return it, as well as the actuating lever, in starting position. The lever 7 can also be separated from the cover 10 rotatably mounted in the bearing 15 and act on the latter to actuate the pump. The cover 10 is articulated on the pusher 12 of the membrane of the feed pump.
The actuating lever 7 has the form of a flat plate
16 covering the top of the drinker 2. This lever can also have the shape of a rod or a tube 17 and there are advantageously two flat plates 18, covering the top of the drinker 2, which can be fixed, removably or not, to the walls thereof or pivot on these walls. The drinker 2 can be made in one piece with the pump housing 4 or be

separate from it. The housing 4 and the drinker 2 can optionally be assembled by means of bolts 19.
