<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

En conséquence l'invention a pour but de réaliser une limitation du courant de court-circuit dans un redresseur de soudage alimenté par un réseau à courant alternatif monophasé, pour la soudure sous flux gazeux de protection avac électrode fusible, en particulier dans le cas du soudage avec arc de courte longueur, en tenant compte en même temps de l'influence de l'ondulation du courant de soudure et de la vitesse de montée du courant;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Limitation of short-circuit current in a welding rectifier."
The invention relates to the limitation of the short-circuit current in a welding rectifier which is supplied by a single-phase alternating current ressua, for arc welding under protective gas flow with a fusible electrode, especially for welding with a short arc.
In arc welding under protective gas flow with a fusible electrode (MIG and CO2 welding), current sources are preferably used today whose load characteristic is almost horizontal in the range of values. of the welding current used. It is known that these current sources have the advantage of having a good self-regulating effect when irregularities occur in the advance of the wire serving as an electrode. As a result of the self-regulation, the variations in the length of the arc are largely compensated.
In addition, the transfer of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the material, in particular in the case of welding with CO2 as shielding gas or for welding with gas mixtures and wire diameters # 1.2 mm and currents # 200 A is done with formation of a short circuit . As a result, when the current source is not correctly sized, very high current peaks occur during the short circuit which causes an increase in spatter.
This is why a series of predés and devices are already known which serve to limit the peaks of the short-circuit current. In these devices, the short-circuit current is limited for example by an accentuated petne due of the characteristic. But with this method, the self-regulatory effect reported above is seriously reduced. The slope of the characteristic must be 4 V / 100 A, so that it is not possible to obtain sufficient limitation of the short-circuit current.
It is also also known that it is possible to insert inductors in the welding circuit which limit the current peaks but which also reduce the rate of rise of the current. These inductances can be constituted by simple air chokes, by chokes with an iron core or by chokes with direct current premagnetization, the inductance of which is constant or else adjustable.
Current limiting circuits are also known which use inductors with direct current pre-magnetization in combination with semiconductor elements (transistors, Zener diodes).
All these already known additional devices are especially suitable for welding rectifiers with straightening.

a three-phase current and low ripple of the output voltage,
The influence of the ripple of the output voltage on the inner and outer shape of the weld bead in the case of C02 welding is well known, but so far no attempt has been made to limit the ripple. of current, It has been found, during research on the influence of current ripple on welds, that good results can still be obtained by tuning the number of maximums of the voltage ripple to output with the number of short circuits in the arc.
Consequently, the object of the invention is to achieve a limitation of the short-circuit current in a welding rectifier supplied by a single-phase AC network, for welding under protective gas flow with a fusible electrode, in particular in the case of welding with a short arc, taking into account at the same time the influence of the ripple of the welding current and the rate of current rise;
According to the invention, the problem is solved by using in the known manner a transformer of the type with two branches, provided with secondary primary windings distributed uniformly on the two branches.
The primary windings are connected in series and connected to a single-phase AC network and the secondary windings connected in series are connected to a rectifier device with mid-tap. In addition, a connection between coils which serves as a center tap and a fully closed magnetic circuit choke without an air gap, are connected in series in the welding circuit,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The limitation of the short-circuit current results from the special arrangement of the windings of the transformer in connection with the assembly of the rectifier in a circuit with mid-tap - which is obligatory here .., toire- and moreover from the presence of the choke (inductance) inserted in the welding circuit.
In a rectifier assembly of this type, each valve delivers only alternately during a half-cycle. Consequently, each secondary winding mounted on one of the branches of the transformer is also supplied alternately. However the primary current circulates permanently because the two parts of the winding are mounted er erery, When a short circuit occurs in the arc, the secondary current suddenly increases in a part of the winding and it necessarily results a higher primary current. Current peaks are damped or limited by the second part of the primary winding which is connected in series.
The correct adaptation of the time constant of the welding circuit to the parameters of the welding operation is obtained by the agreement between the maximums of the output voltage and the number of short-circuits per unit of time, To adjust the time constant of the welding circuit it is necessary to consider at the same time besides the influence of the short-circuit current, the influence of the ripple of the current and its speed of rise.
In a welding rectifier, connected to a single-phase alternating current network for MIG or CO2 welding, @ it is necessary to arrange the entire construction of the rectifier circuit, taking into account the limitation of the short- circuit and setting @ of the frequency of short circuits with respect to the

current relationship.
The advantages of the limitation according to the invention of the short-circuit current are based on the fact that the correct setting of the time constant is obtained simply by the combination of a two-branch transformer of a known type, carrying the windings described above, with a rectifier circuit of a type also known with m6diane socket mounting and a choke, in particular a choke with a closed magnetic circuit without an air gap.
Furthermore, the limitation according to the invention of the short-circuit current makes it possible to get by with only two rectifier elements (silicon diodes) against four elements in a single-phase bridge circuit.
The invention will be explained in detail below with the aid of an exemplary embodiment. The figures show - Figure 1 the circuit diagram 'for limiting the short-circuit current.
- Figure 2 the arrangement of the windings on a two-branch transformer for the litaiation of the short-circuit current,
The limitation of the short-circuit current in a welding rectifier supplied by a single-phase alternating current network is obtained by the combination of a transformer 1 with two branches of a known type, which covers the two branches of the windings primary 2, 3 and secondary windings 4, 5 uniformly distributed, and a rectifier assembly 7, 8 in a circuit with mid-tap and an inductor 10 interposed in series in the welding circuit.
Primary windings 2, 3 of transformer 1 are for

this connected in series to a single-phase AC network 6 and the secondary windings 4, 5, also connected in series, are connected to the rectifier assembly 7, 8 in a center tap circuit. Connection 9 between coils serves as a middle tap. The inductor 10, interposed in the welding circuit, preferably has a completely closed magnetic circuit without an air gap.
