<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Improvements made to earth connections for power installations -The present invention relates to a cylindrical or conical earth connection for protection installations, provided with a tip of variable shape depending on it! intended for drilling or screwing into the ground, and characterized in that it allows installation or extraction at will, by rota.-. tion one way or the other.
The improvements provided by the invention relate above all to the rod, the driving device and the assembly of the terminal belonging to this earth connection.
The object of the invention is essentially to ensure effective grip of the rod in the ground, even in very compact terrain, and to facilitate its extraction; to allow
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
laying by piling with or without rotation; to make a head with an incorporated terminal assembly having all the required qualities of electrical insulation required by the legal provisions on the prevention of industrial accidents, and to ensure the rapidity and simplicity of connection to any number of conductors, without the aid of any tool.
The invention will be best described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show a preferred embodiment, given only as a practical example but which do not represent the only possible embodiment.
In these drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevational view, partially in section, of all the components of the earth electrode, placed in the order of assembly.
FIG. 2 represents a cor spondant threshing device, shown on a larger scale.
As regards the rod 4, it may, over all or only part of its length, be of frustoconical shape with an apex angle equal to or less than that of the terminal end piece. In this way, as the stem goes deeper into the ground, it will remain in intimate contact with it, owing to its gradually increasing diameter.
As regards the threshing device, it is formed by a cap 10, substantially cylindrical, with a diameter equal to that of the head 11, and intended to be placed on said head, against a cylindrical coaxial stop 12 of lower diameter. The cap 10 is held in place and made integral with the head 11 by a part 26 in the form of a sleeve, forming two horizontal seats in which a tube 13 can be engaged, either to support
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the assembly during the beating on the head of the cap, that is, to effect the rotation of the earth electrode during the driving in or the extraction.
It goes without saying that the threshing could also be done directly on the end of the head 11 which, in this case, will preferably have an appropriate shape (for example hemispherical) *
As regards the terminal assembly, a clamping device is provided at the upper end of the head 11, this device consisting of a socket 14 made of metal which is a good conductor of electricity, comprising a hole 15 horizon. 1 through, intended to receive any number of corrugators 16 of which the insulating groin is designated by 17, and a threaded vertical central bore 18, coaxial with a hole 19 provided in the head 11, also threaded and receiving a stainless metal screw 20 of a relatively large diameter, head / knurled or similar,
completely isolated. An outer cap 22 of insulating material has two horizontal holes 24 in its cylindrical surface, for the passage of the wires 16, and another vertical hole 25 in its bottom, coaxial with the hole 19, and intended for the passage of the wires. the via 20.
The internal diameter of this cap 22 corresponds to the external diameter of the head 11, so as to be able to be placed on it without play.
The entire terminal assembly is enclosed in a protective cap-shaped box 23, made of wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant insulating material. This box may be (different shapes, depending on requirements (ordinary box, or else hermetic, or explosion-proof, or even with an oil bath).
With a terminal assembly of the type indicated, comprising the two electrical isolation means described
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
(cap 22 and box 23) any possibility of contact or current flow disappears, and a solid junction is ensured between the earth electrode and the conductors, guaranteeing a permanent and efficient electrical connection between the associated elements, improved again by the quality of the metal of which the sleeve 14 and the screw 20 are made. In addition, the device allows easy breaking of the circuit, for the measurement of the earth resistance.
The lower end of the housing 23 bears on a thick electrically insulating sleeve 28, of suitable length, mounted on the rod 4
In practice, the details of execution may vary in the form, the dimensions, the arrangement of the elements and the nature of the materials used, without necessarily going beyond the scope of the invention.
