<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"Apparatus for cooling oil in internal combustion engines, especially those cooled by air".
The object of the present invention is an apparatus for cooling oil in internal combustion engines, especially those cooled by air.
When the oil temperature rises to values higher than those expected, either because the vehicle engine has insufficient cooling, or because the engine
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
has been running for a long time at high speed, (long walk on a motorway) either because the vehicle is traveling at low speed, or because the car is closed, it is necessary to cool the oil at least.
It is known to embed in the oil circulation pipe a radiator, attacked by the current of air applied, on the pipes downstream of the oil pump.
On some types of engines, such fitting is not possible if some parts of the engine have not been transformed, an expensive and difficult operation,
According to the invention, the radiator is applied to the oil pipe, without major changes to the engine, but by adding a few components and without significantly changing the size of the engine by using the oil drain hole for the oil. oil in the engine bowl by means of suitable fittings or by making one or more holes in the bowl or in the motor crankcase, by placing suitable connectors and joining this duct to the pump suction chamber.
According to the invention, the oil pipe is wound so as to form one or more turns placed before or after the cooling fan, wedged on the shaft of the dynamo or otherwise, these turns being concentric with respect to the shaft. itself, or the turns or the radiator are placed in another location where. good heat exchange can take place.
The oil is taken from the engine opening from the hole corresponding to the drain plug, by applying a connection, preferably with an annular chamber, with a hollow fixing bolt which also constitutes the drain plug, or by another exit, through the holes made in the bowl or the housing. The outlet pipe of the spiral part or of the radiator is then connected to the pump.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
gears in the suction chamber which, in the case of the engine of the FIAT "500 nuova", with already existing opening for oonstruotion reasons, is closed by a plate.
To prevent the pump from running out of the quantity of oil necessary for its priming or to regulate the circulation of oil in the pipe comprising the radiator, the oil supply pipe which directly connects the engine valve. to the pump's suction chamber is constricted by a lens whose hole section is smaller than that of the oil addition pipe.
The pump chamber is thus filled independently of the oil supply pipe comprising the radiator and its priming is ensured.
The flow rate of the pump being greater than the quantity of oil which reaches it in the chamber through the pipe controlled by the lens, sucks the oil through the pipe leading to the radiator.
According to a variant, the lens which controls the adduct light of the duct feeding the suction chamber is replaced by a thermal regulator which regulates the light according to the oil temperature in the pipe comprising the turns or coils. the cooling radiator, more or less or no oil circulation will be obtained, depending on the temperature of the oil itself; thus the oil temperature is regulated automatically! when the oil temperature is high, the light is closed or almost closed and it opens proportionally when it is lowered.
According to the invention, the thermal regulators will preferably be chosen from the bimetallic types either with rod or among those with blade, having at one end a shutter which controls the lumen of the introduction hole of the pipe.

to the pump's suction chamber.
According to other peculiarities, the hollow bolt of the raooord of the oil intake pipe has at the inner mouth a filter consisting of a tubular extension with holes controlled by a grid, this extension can be fitted. at its end of a plate made up of a permanent magnet for ferrous slag.
According to a final feature, the head of the hollow bolt has a threaded hole communicating with the oil adduct pipe and, in this hole, is screwed a thermo-sensitive element of a telethermnometer, the indicator dial of which can be screwed. be placed on the control panel or on another part of the vehicle.
According to a final improvement, these devices can then be placed on the oil intake.
According to the attached drawings and the description below, desoription and plans simply given by way of non-limiting example, it results from other features and advantages of the invention.
