<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
trant 4.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Filter for liquids."
The known liquid filters can be divided into two categories: those using as filter element one or more cartridges filtering from the outside to the inside and those using one or more filter baskets from the inside to the outside.
The new filter which is the object of the present invention combines the advantages of the two conventional systems and eliminates the disadvantages of each of the latter.
In particular, it has the characteristics defined below: a) its operation is continuous; b) it allows the use of any filtering wall: perforated sheet metal, wire mesh, etc.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
c) it can be unclogged in operation at any time, either by hand, or automatically, or continuously.
This unclogging acts inside the filter element functioning as if it were a "basket", filtering from the inside to the outside and not like a filter cartridge from the outside to the outside. interior.
However, this type of "basket" which takes the form of a sleeve is not provided with a bottom which is integral with it, this bottom being constituted by an impurity reservoir which follows it.
Another characteristic resides in the fact that the cylindrical part of the filtering sleeve, located opposite the outlet of the filtered tube, is full and non-filtering. This arrangement eliminates the deterioration well known to users and which occurs in any filter wall when the fluid, following the most direct and easiest path, ends up destroying the part of the filter element placed in front of a tubing.
The filter which is the object of the invention can operate in parallel with other filters or be incorporated in staged filtration or else be connected in "by-pass", in full-flo @, etc., without the filter. least inconvenience. In addition, it can be adapted to all needs depending on the nature, density and viscosity of the fluid to be filtered, the quantity and particle size of the materials to be removed, the pressure and the temperature and the flow rate, etc., and also of depending on the type and quality of filtration desired.
These adaptations determine the ratios between the proportions of certain organs, for example, the filtering surface, the volume of the collecting reservoir for impurities, etc .; the principle of operation always remaining the same.
The design of the filter element in the form of a sleeve allows its easy reinforcement for resistance to high differential pressures, which eliminates any risk of deterioration. As in the known and conventional embodiments, the filter which forms the subject of the invention can be equipped with manometers for measuring said pressures.
The entire filter which is the subject of the invention is presented
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
like a conventional basket filter in the form of a closed tank or not, depending on whether the operations to be carried out are carried out under pressure or by simple gravity.
Depending on requirements, this filter can be placed vertically, horizontally or at any desired inclination. The filter element. governs operations and a declogging system sends impurities to a collecting receptacle.
Impurities are collected at the bottom of the tank like in a cartridge filter, but they can be completely removed from the circuit like in a basket filter.
The filtering element consists of a sleeve open at both ends, the cylindrical part comprises the filtering wall proper and its reinforcements as well as a solid part facing the outlet of the filtered fluid from the, ve. Said filtering element therefore acts like a basket, a maneuverable shutter separating it from the reservoir-collector in place of the bottom. The filter element is easily accessible and is interchangeable.
One embodiment, given by way of non-limiting example is shown in the accompanying drawing.
The body of the filter consists, in principle, of a cylindrical shell or tank 1, a cover 2 and a bottom 3 forming the receptacle or reservoir-collector of the impurities. The entry of the polluted liquid is made above the filter sleeve 4 through the side pipe.
6 if the filter operates vertically. This tubing is placed at the front of the filter body when the latter must operate in a horizontal or inclined position. The filtered liquid leaves the tank 1 through a pipe 7 provided at and opposite the filter sleeve
4, but anyway in front of a full part 5.
The receptacle-collector 3 which effectively acts as a backplane is arranged at the bottom of the tank 1 below the filter sleeve
4 when the filter works vertically or at the rear when the latter is placed in a horizontal or inclined position.
The unclogging and cleaning device consists of a frame in the form of an Archimedean screw or a paddle frame 8 whose active ends scrape the inner face of the wire sleeve.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
trant 4.
This device is controlled by a vertical axis 9 passing through the cover 2 and equipped for example with a control wheel 10 or any other conventional mechanical system allowing its operation. The Archimedean screw or the blades 8 scrape the impurities and push them back to the tank-collector 3 which constitutes the bottom of the basket but which is closed when necessary, by a shutter 11 mounted at the bottom of a shaft 17 provided with 'a flywheel 1 @, placed at the top of the tank 1,
The so-called "counter-current" declogging operation can be perfectly combined with the new system described.
Thanks to the shutter 11, the counter-current can act on the filtering sleeve 4 and on the receptacle 3 together or else on 1. receptacle 3 alone while, in this case, the filtration continues on the sleeve 4.
A drain opening 12 is provided in the slit of the collecting tank 3.
The cleaning can be done yourself. by simple gravity, either under pressure, or even by the use of any cleaning fluids brought under pressure into the tank 1 above the filter sleeve 4 and / or into the filtered liquid chamber and / or into the tank collector 3 through the separate feeds 13,14 and 15,
This arrangement allows all imaginable combinations and facilities.
The service valves, controlling the various inlets and outlets of the filtration apparatus, can be actuated either by hand or automatically by electromagnetic, hydraulic, compressed air or any other means. The opening and closing of said valves can be controlled by a program device which is itself controlled by a differential pressure manometer.
If necessary for the treatment of viscous liquids the tank
1 can be fitted with a double jacket or with heating tubes.
The liquid inlets and outlets can be arranged tangentially.
The scrapers can be removed at the same time
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
than cover 2, they are therefore accessible and interchangeable. The same applies to the filter sleeve 4.
The filter which is the object of the invention operates in the following way: - the polluted liquid is admitted into the tank 1 of the filter, at the upper part of the latter if the filter is arranged vertically and at the front, if its position is horizontal or inclined. or
By simple gravity / under the effect of pressure, this liquid to be treated penetrates into the filtering sleeve 4 and it leaves against the filtering wall of the latter the impurities 16 with which it is loaded and this according to the dimensions of the perforations. or pores in the wall of the filter sleeve 4. The filter liquid leaves the filter through the side tube 7,
A portion of the impurities 1. aided by the movement of the flow descends into the collecting tank3 by simple gravity.
On entering the reservoir-collector3, the impurities 16 gradually take up the place initially occupied by the unfiltered liquid; the latter therefore rises in the sleeve where it filters.
There are several possibilities for cleaning and unclogging the device. a) the unclogging of the filter sleeve 4 is carried out by setting in motion the cleaning device constituted either by an Archimedes screw or by a paddle mount 8 and which is intended to detach the impurities 16 from the inner wall of the filter sleeve 4 and push the latter towards the collector-reservoir 3. In general, it suffices to make this device perform a quarter turn to obtain this result. b) The elimination of impurities from the collecting tank 3 during the operation of the filter takes place as follows.
By operating the flywheel 16, the shutter 11 completely separates the reservoir-collector 3 from the rest of the filter. By then opening the emptying opening 12 which is largely dimensioned, most of the impurities accumulated in the reservoir 3 emerge from the latter by simple gravity.
If it is necessary to carry out a more complete cleaning, it suffices to open the side valve 12 'of the re-
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
servoir 6 to introduce either steam, hot water or detergent or both. c) General cleaning of the entire filter can be carried out in the conventional way by combined counter-current. This operation is carried out in the conventional way with the difference that three inlets 13, 14 and 15 are available to choose from: the first 13, in the upper chamber above the filter sleeve 4, the second 14, in the chamber where the filter liquid collects around the sleeve 4 and the third 12 'in the collecting tank 3.
In reality, it is the second feed 14 which performs the actual counter-current, the other two feeds 13 and 15 participating in the elimination of impurities,
It is understood that the embodiment described and represented is given only by way of non-limiting example and that modifications can be made to it without departing from the scope of the invention.
