<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

Self-supporting hollow plastic body such as a cistern or tank and its manufacturing process.
The present invention relates to it. hollow bodies such as tanks, tanks, pipes, etc. and its main purpose is to allow the production of a self-supporting type plastic hollow body.
It relates more particularly to tanks or vats of the type used for the transport or storage of liquid or pulverulent products, as well as a process for their manufacture.
We know that plastic tanks intended for road or rail transport
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
allow, because of their low weight, to achieve a very appreciable gain in payload. Currently, its tanks or vats are however mounted on metal frames whose own weight represents a considerable obstacle to a further gain in weight transport and a lowering of the center of gravity.
One of the aims of the invention is to allow the production of a tank or tank of sufficiently rigid and resistant plastic material to allow the removal of the frame and direct attachment, on the tank itself, by any appropriate means,
necessary devices such as running gear, @ crutches, coupling plate, kingpin and suspension components, and accessories necessary for the operation of the equipment, in particular electrical and braking pipes, pipe corridors, pump box, etc.,
Another object of the invention is to allow the production of a self-supporting tank or imothermal tank having the above-mentioned advantages and overcoming the known drawbacks of tanks or isothermal vans consisting of a tank covered with insulating material and by a casing in tala thin closed plates generally assembled by riveting.
The invention is embodied in a self-supporting hollow body of plastic material, such as a cistern or tank, comprising an inner wall and an outer wall of plastic material, between which is placed a core of rigid and resistant light material, for example of a material. original rigid cell
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
synthetic or natural, the volume in right anointing of this nucleus being such that it presents, on either side of the neutral fiber of the hollow body, aurépaieaeura N'extending according to generatrices, arranged on each side of a diameter vertical, so as to increase the flexural strength of the lower fiber of this hollow body and the compressive strength of its upper fiber, a beam is produced.
According to a judicious embodiment of the intention, these extra thickness extending along four genetatricea arranged on either side of a vertical diameter, vera the parts @ érieure and lower of the straight section of the hollow body.
The core can advantageously be formed by a rigid plastic foam, preferably having at least partly open cells, or by balsa wood, or again by another comparable rigid cellular material. This core is incorporated, preferably ,, to the entire hollow body so as to achieve intimate contact with the inner and outer envelopes, so that all the elements of this hollow body participate in. maximum to obtain the desired mechanical characteristics.
This arrangement of the hollow body pormet to incorporate into the core all the necessary elements * or accessories. such as those indicated above, or members used for their fixing, aorta that, in the case of a tank or tank used for the transport of product, it is possible to produce a vehicle without a frame, by directly adapting these elements or accessories on the hollow body.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The nature of the plastic envelopes and that of the cell core also make it possible, for example, to obtain an isothermal cistern or vessel with particularly judicious characteristics *.
The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a self-supporting hollow body of plastic material of this type consisting in winding, in a manner designed in itself, on a mandrel having the desired diameter and shape, strands of fibers impregnated with resin or equivalent material, up to an appropriate thickness, so as to form a shell having this diameter or this shape, to fit on this shell a core of rigid and resistant cellular material, if necessary after adequate preparation, this core leaving in the section straight line obtained from localized extra thickness to form a beam, to embed the required elements in the core if necessary (for example fasteners)
and in winding again on 11 together thus formed strands of fibers impregnated with resin or equivalent material, to the desired thickness.
If one uses as indicated above. to form the core, a rigid plastic foam with open cells or balsa wood, the resin impregnating the wicks intended to form the outer shell can penetrate into the pores of this core to increase the cohesion of the "sandwich" formed. In this case, this perfectly sealed outer shell not only helps to provide the necessary strength for the wall, but also achieves perfect protection of the core, in a manner providing optimum isothermal characteristics.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The * impregnated loaves constituting the envelopes * can be formed by spun glass, impregnated for example with polyester rein.
After the application of the outer casing on the core, it is possible to adapt the bases intended to complete the tank, as well as all the accessories (manhole, valves, etc.) to the shell obtained. We can also fix on the members incorporated in the core the required elements, such as rolling members, traction members, etc. This gives a hollow body constituting for example a cistern, produced in the form of a self-supporting beam having a resistance. Particularly large mechanics for a low weight, due to the combination of the outer and inner envelopes with a cell nucleus whose cross section presents localized thicknesses.
The description which will follow, given with reference to the appended drawings, given without limitation, will make it possible to better understand the invention. Figures 1 to 4 are cross-sectional views of four possible embodiments of tanks established according to invention.
Figure 5 is a schematic side view of a semi-trailer comprising a tank according to the invention.
Fig. 6 is a partial cross-sectional view on a larger scale.
In fig. 1 to 4, the references 1 and 2 denote the outer and inner casings of the tank in the form of a beam arranged according to the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
A core 3 (for example of rigid plastic foam) is placed between these envelopes 1 and 2, which are obtained by winding in the manner indicated above.
On the. rod 1, which shows a tank which can be used, for example, for the transport of powdery products, this core has extra thicknesses 4 * extending along four generatrices arranged on either side of a vertical diameter, such aorta that the bending resistance of the lower fiber and the compressive strength of the upper fiber of the. beam thus constituted are increased, Comte this is better visible in fig. 6, profiles 5 are embedded in the inner part of the core 2, together with plywood associated with * nuts 7: rhymed for example on ellea by welding.
It can be seen on examination of this fig. 6 that the profiles 1 can receive for example pipes 8.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 6, cons. plates 2. and the nut are used for fixing the. tank on a support plate 9, this fixing being made by means of bolts 10. This plate in turn carries the running gear, which is generally designated by the reference 11. the overall arrangement of the counter-plates 6 is clearly visible on the. fig. 5, on which 11 the running gear of the semi-trailer carrying the tank is indicated. As shown, the profiles 5 serve to join the different backing plates, establishing a bond between the anchors.
There is shown at 12 a stand of the semi-trailer and 13 the kingpin, these elements also being attached to the counter-plate s6 embedded in the core lora of the manufacture.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
On fig 2, in which the zones referenced as on figs 1, 5 and 6 have been used to designate corresponding organs, we see that the hollow body produced has a parallelapipedal tome, so as to constitute for example an isothermal van, this hollow body having extra thicknesses extending along upper and lower generatrices arranged on either side of a vertical diameter. In this case, reinforcements 14 are embedded in the extra thicknesses forming the upper generatrices and bars 15 extend between these reinforcements for the attachment of suspension hooks 16.
A floor 1: - -, provided in the lower part of the van forms a lower chamber 18, in which it is possible, for example, to distribute cold air.
According to the embodiment shown in fig 3, on which the same references as previously were used to designate corresponding organs, the upper part of the body. The hollow has an expansion box 19, which is spared by a discontinuity in the core 3, the upper thicknesses 4 'of this core being placed on either side of this expansion box. It can be seen that the tank thus obtained, which is intended for example for the transport of petroleum products, is limited at the top simply by the outer casing 1.
According to the embodiment reproduced on the fig 4, which corresponds for example to a rail tank wagon comprising a running gear 11 of appropriate type, stretcher 20 mounted incorporated
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
to the core in its lower thicknesses. In this case, the greater excess thicknesses have been omitted.
Although, in the enaemble of this text, the invention is described in aon application to such cisterns * or tanks, it will be understood that it can also be used for. realization of toua plastic body before preaent advantageously a self-supporting nature.
Modifications can be made to the Medita embodiments, in the field of technical equivalences, without departing from the invention.
