of dergelijke.

Ten einde de kenmerken der uitvinding beter aan te tonen is hierna als voorbeeld, zonder enig beperkend karakter, een voor- keurdragende uitvoeringsvorm beschreven met verwijzing naar de bijgaande tekeningen waarin: figuur 1 in perspektief een zetel voorstelt bekomen door toepassing van de werkwijze volgens de uitvinding, waarbij deze zetel meer speciaal het voorwerp uitmaakt van het Belgisch octrooi n P.V. 44582, op naam van dezelfde Aanvrager; figuur 2 in perspektief de armleuning voorstelt van de voornoemde zetel volgens figuur 1;
figuur 3 in perspektief een uiteengenomen zicht voorstelt der verschillende onderdelen waaruit de armleuning volgens figuur 2 is opgebouwd, waarbij deze onderdelen getoond zijn ten opzichte van de omhullende elektrode volgens de uitvinding; figuur 4 in perspektief de band plastiekmaterie voorstelt die als boordomlijsting dient voor de armleuning volgens figuur 2; figuur 5 een doorsnede is volgens lijn V-V van figuur 4 ; figuren 6, 7, 8, 9 en 10 schematisch vijf kenmerkende s'tanden weergeven van de werkwijze volgens de uitvinding; figuur 11 een variante voorstelt der werkwijze volgens de uitvinding;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
scheuren of dergelijke.
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"Process for the industrial manufacture of elements covered with a plastic matter layer and elements obtained by this process".
The present invention relates to a method for covering elements completely or partially with plastic material.
More particularly, the object of the invention is to cover or encase with plastic material, more particularly a thermoplastic material, of seats, oanapés, oanapé beds, bed parts, such as end pieces, mattresses and the like and everything else. slate furniture parts in which one or more elements are generally covered with a plastic material.
The current method is also applicable for covering furniture elements with plastic plus fabrics such as
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
for example cotton, blend of cotton and wool, nylon fabric
EMI2.1
or similar.
Indeed, these materials can be thermo-welded with plastic. jj The provision of envelopes around furniture elements, such as seats, sofas and the like, is still mainly achieved by hand to date.
EMI2.2
Indeed, the traditional way consists in that ten on in jazz
EMI2.3
a suitable frame, place a suitable cover, using the handle "'.
and finally connect this sleeve to the aforementioned framework by nailing or stapling,
A first drawback of this generally used method consists in that the finished pieces or elements differ from each other to a greater or lesser extent, even when these different pieces are finished by the same skilled person.
EMI2.4
Another drawback is that the finishing time is relatively long, as a result of which the cost price of the end product is very disadvantageous.
Fog Another disadvantage of this traditionally followed working method is that the worker must have a great deal of expertise. to settle, so that only well-paid workers will get dunes, '
EMI2.5
used for this type of work, so that the cost of the finished work is all the more unfavorably affected.
The present invention has as its object a method
EMI2.6
which systematically precludes the aforementioned and other drawbacks of the existing method for manufacturing seats and the like.
For this purpose, the method for manufacturing elements covered with a layer of thermoplastic material consists mainly in covering the side walls or part of the side walls of the aforementioned elements with a layer.
EMI2.7
p.astielr matter which itself is in direct contact with a metal wall forming the first electrode,
in which at least one of the boxes
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
which are transverse to the aforementioned side walls or peripheral walls is also covered with at least one layer of thermoplastic material and the latter is brought into contact with a metal plate constituting the second electrode and the aforementioned electrodes are subsequently energized in order to insure the thermosetting of the adjacent edges of the aforementioned layers of thermoplastic material, after which the element thus formed and coated is demoulded.
The aforementioned thermo-welding will, in this case, be obtained by so-called high-frequency welding.
In order to better demonstrate the characteristics of the invention, a preferred embodiment is described below by way of example, without any limitation, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a seat obtained by applying the method according to the invention , this seat being more specifically the subject of the Belgian patent n PV 44582, in the name of the same Applicant; figure 2 represents in perspective the armrest of the aforementioned seat according to figure 1;
figure 3 represents an exploded view in perspective of the various parts of which the armrest according to figure 2 is constructed, these parts being shown with respect to the encapsulating electrode according to the invention; figure 4 represents in perspective the strip of plastic material which serves as a border for the armrest according to figure 2; Figure 5 is a section according to line V-V of Figure 4; Figures 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 schematically represent five characteristic teeth of the method according to the invention; figure 11 represents a variant of the method according to the invention;
Figure 12 shows a section similar to that of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
figure 9, but for manufacturing oblique elements, for example backrests for seats and the like.
Figure 1 shows as an example a seat which is mainly formed by elements. which are covered with a plastic material, these elements in this case consisting of a backrest 1, a seat 2 and armrests, respectively 3-4.
These different elements are obtained according to the invention by applying the current method.
Figure 2 shows an armrest obtained with the above-mentioned method, whereby as an example in the following figures this method will be schematized by showing the different phases by which such an armrest is obtained.
Obviously, all other elements realized according to the current method will be similarly obtained.
The current working method consists mainly in that one. for a particular shape of the element to be manufactured, a circumferential band 5 is realized, which is realized in plastic material, more particularly thermoplastic material.
In the thus formed circumferential band the frame or the filling 6 is then applied, the aforementioned frame 6 preferably being previously covered with a thin layer of polyester, polyether or the like.
A circumferential plate 7 is then arranged around the element thus formed, which circumferential plate 7 has substantially the same shape as the aforementioned circumferential band 5 which forms the side walls of the element to be realized, this plate acting on the one hand as a shape for the element to be realized and on the other hand the first The electrode forms for high-frequency welding of the coating material to be applied over the frame 6.
The electrode 1 with its contents is then put on
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
a layer of thermoplastic material or plastic foil 8, the shape of which is determined in advance in proportion to that of the element to be obtained, this layer 8 resting on a table 3 which functions as a second electrode. It goes without saying that in this case the outer dimensions of the aforementioned layer 8 are slightly larger than those of the aforementioned electrode 7.
On top of the shape thus obtained, a second layer of thermoplastic material 10 is applied which has the same shape as that of the aforementioned layer 8, a movable plate 11 of a pressing device being able to cooperate with this layer 10, and this pressing plate 11 also acting as second electrode serves with respect to the aforementioned electrode 7.
According to the present method, when the various elements are in the position as shown in Fig. 9, the electrode 7 on the one hand and the electrodes ± and 11 on the other hand are traversed by a high-frequency current while an appropriate pressure is applied to the plate 11 with respect to the table, in order to obtain a firm pressing of the electrode 1 and at the same time of the circumferential band 5 against the layers 8 and 10.
In this way, one obtains that the aforementioned circumferential band 5, towards its side edges, is firmly connected by thermo-welding with the adjacent parts of the layers of thermoplastic material, 8-10, respectively.
After the thermo-welding has taken place, the press plate 11 is removed, the molded element is removed from the table 2 and the electrode 1 is in turn removed from the thus-formed element shown in FIG.
It is observed that when the method is applied in this case a small protruding circumferential edge, respectively 12-13, is obtained which, however, due to the nature of the thermo-welding itself, can be removed in a simple manner, for example by cutting.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
cracks or the like.
During the actual welding process, the layers 8 and 10 form, as it were, the insulation between the electrodes 7, 9 and 11.
In this way, a complete element is obtained in one operation, whereby the welding seams are very cleanly finished *
Figure 11 shows a variant of the method according to Figures 1 to 10.
In this case, the aforementioned electrode 1 is covered internally with a circumferential border. in thermoplastic material, wherein this edge 2 has a width which is slightly wider than the width of the element to be produced, respectively of the electrode 7, whereby the excess material protruding towards the two side edges of the electrode. the edge of the plate 1 is bent and thus, if necessary and by means not shown, can be connected in a suitable manner to the outer wall of the aforementioned electrode 7.
In this case, the bent parts, 14-15, respectively, form the aforementioned insulation between the aforementioned electrode 7 and the adjacent electrodes 9-11.
The layers µ and 10 of thermoplastic material can in this case have substantially a dimension which is equal to or slightly larger than the surface of the side walls of the element to be produced. '
Finally, figure 12 shows a cross-section of an element which is realized by applying the above method, in which case this element has a clean shape and is used, for example, for making backrests, seats and the like. .
In this case, the framework 6 is also coated with the aforementioned circumferential border 5, the electrode 7 being arranged around this part, while below and above the aforementioned framework 6 the aforementioned layers 8 and 10, respectively, are placed.
It goes without saying that when this element is intended.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
As a seat or backrest, between the aforementioned layers 8 and 10, a resilient material must be provided which can take the load of the person placing the seat or the like. To this end, before the aforementioned circumferential band is applied, it is possible to attach bands known per se in sturdy resilient elastic material, metal-nc-sag suspension or the like to the frame 6 in known manner.
As shown in Figure 12, in this case the electrode 11 will have to be supported in such a way that a lateral shearing with respect to the oblique plane of the element to be realized is avoided.
It goes without saying that when the backrests, seats, armrests or the like are made slightly curved, the pressing plate 11, respectively the movable or non-movable table 9, will be designed in a suitable manner in order to move towards the side edges. of the element to be realized, to obtain the suitable attraction of the layers of thermoplastic material.
The method according to the invention is by no means limited to the exemplary application thereof, but can be realized in all forms without departing from the scope of the invention.
The method according to the invention is applicable for all types of elements or furniture parts, whereby a plastic covering is provided around a frame, which may or may not be filled with a filling material, or a resilient material, respectively. ** WARNING ** End of DESC field may contain beginning of CLMS field **.
