<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The present invention relates to improvements made to the manufacture of metal sections and in particular sections intended to be anodized.
At present, the greater part of metal profiles made of light metals such as aluminum or aluminum alloys are obtained by extrusion.
Many low profiles are intended for the metal joinery of buildings, placed outside, their protection is provided anod-ically.
Since the anodization treatment does not immediately follow the spinning, it is necessary to preserve the surface condition of the profile after the latter from any deterioration.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
To this end, the profila is covered with a product preventing any pitting, any alteration or corrosion by the atmosphere or by the corrosive dust contained therein, in particular in the workshops where it will receive its complement of manufacture after spinning. , for example * undergo heat treatments, such as tempering, any surface damage resulting from fingerprints (sweat, foreign matter, etc.) during handling.
In addition, this product must also protect it during packaging controls and handling.
The oils and greases used until now as corrosion protectors have the defect of being decomposed by heat, or even burned during tempering. They then stain the surface of the metal and these stains are found after anodic oxidation. It follows that in a general way the application of these oils or greases is only done following the heat treatment and therefore, up to and during the latter, the profiles are not are not protected.
An aim of the present invention is to remedy this drawback.
@
It relates to a process ensuring the surface protection of aluminum profiles or aluminum alloy after their exit from the extrusion press, these profiles being intended for the manufacture of finished products whose surface is anodized, remarkable for the that 1 + is covered the profile emerging from the press and prior to any other treatment with a silicone-based material.
Silicones have many qualities, the association of which leads to perfect protection against
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
corrosion, but in addition have very good heat stability, in particular at a temperature of the order of that used for tempering, and, therefore, prevent the formation of stains on the surface of the profiles before anodization .
Advantageously, therefore, a silicone is used, the nature of which is such that after heat treatment of the profile, it remains unchanged.
According to the invention, the silicon chosen is such that it can be deposited in the form of an epilamenic layer, that is to say an extremely thin layer composed of a small number of molecular layers. Moreover, the silicone chosen must not be incompatible with the finishing treatments: it is therefore selected according to the nature of the heat treatment which, itself, depends on the nature of the alloy treated.
By way of nonlimiting example, for profiles formed of Al-Mg-Si alloys, a silicone having a kinematic viscosity of the order of 350 centistokes is advantageously used. In addition, the surface tension of the chosen silicone is such that it allows easy attachment.
For purely illustrative purposes, there may be mentioned as examples of silicones which can be used during the implementation of the process in accordance with the invention, the following compounds: - The fluid oils from the company DOW CORNING CORPORATION referenced SI 200-200
SI 200 - 350 \ SI 200 - 500

In the case where after spinning an operation has been carried out. polishing, protection against corrosion is also advantageously obtained by a silicone.
As has been said, the silicone is deposited after spinning, so that the corrosion possibility time is reduced to the strict minimum.
Advantageously, in order to deposit the silicone, a time is chosen when the temperature of the profile corresponds to the vapor pressure of the silicone giving the best quality of the epilemic layer absorbed, that is to say a layer uniform in all points and not comprising no gap.
Not only do silicones protect the profiles during heat treatment operations, such as tempering for example, without any deterioration of the surface, but have the anti-corrosive, water-repellent and protective properties against fatty substances, they maintain the protection during the storage at both the manufacturer and the customer's premises prior to the anodizing treatment.
It should be noted that when the profile coated with the silicone undergoes a tempering treatment, the passage through the tempering oven further improves the pliyalco-chemiqtio absorption quality of the silicone.
