<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

FRENCH PETROLEUM INSTITUTE,
FUELS AND LUBRICANTS -: -: -: - FIRST ADDITION to the patent PROCESS ALLOWING THE COMBUSTION OF POOR MIXTURES
IN CONTROLLED IGNITION ENGINES Invention Jean BAUDRY
The object of the present addition is to improve the hubs for carrying out the process forming the subject of the main patent.
This process consists in supplying the external carburetion engine laws by means of separate streams of fuel mixtures of different richnesses so that the stream of the most riel mixture is oriented towards the spark plug which allows to maintain in the vicinity of the latter has sufficient richness to allow the ignition of a generally poor mixture.
The mine device implementing this method as described in the main patent comprises an intake duct for the richest mixture arranged inside the air intake duct.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
or lean mixture, said duct being oriented in the direction of the spark plug.
In this device, the rich mixture pipe is masked or unmasked by the valve at the same time as the orifice of the air intake or lean mixture pipe.
Such a device, however, has drawbacks in the case where the intake manifolds on air or lean mixture of sweet or several cylinders have been supplied from a common pipe leaving a carburetor. In fact, the depression reaultant in this last pipe of the throttling of the air stream or of the poor mixture by a butterfly can cause the aapiration in the inlet tube of a part of the rich mixture contained in the on. - rich mixture pump, when the valve is closed.
This suction, made possible by the fact that the rich mixture duct opens into the intake pipe upstream of the subpape and that it is not possible to achieve in a simple manner sufficient sealing of the orifice of the duct of Rich mixture by the valve head, in the closed position, results in a tendency for the richnesses of the two supply veins to be homogenized, which goes against the object pursued by the invention.
The object of the present invention is a novel device for ease of use by the process described in the main patent which makes it possible to remedy these drawbacks and which is essentially characterized by the fact that the rich mixing duct is provided inside.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
inlet valve body and stem and is supplied only during the opening of this valve.
The device according to the invention comprises a first duct supplied with a lean fuel mixture or air opening into the combustion chamber through an orifice in the cult * of this chamber, a valve whose head can be applied in the position of. forming of the device on a valve seat formed around said orifice, this valve comprising a rod which can slide in a valve guide integral with the cylinder head, said device being characterized in that the valve rod has a conduit substantially parallel to its axis and extended inside the valve head on the side of the internal face thereof by another duct making an elbow with the previous one,
which is housed entirely in the lean mixture supply line when the valve is in the closed position, the latter conduit being oriented so that in the open position of the valve it is directed towards the spark plug. ignition, the device further comprising means for preventing any rotation of the valve around the axis of the valve stem and the valve guide being pierced at the corners with an orifice into which opens a second pipe supplied with rich fuel mixture, the location of this orifice being such that said second pipe is in communication with the pipe of the valve stem when the valve is in the open position,
and ceases to supply with said line when the valve is in the closed position.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The device Ion the invention will be described below in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings showing by way of example an embodiment of this device and where:
FIG. 1 shows, in section having a plane passing through the longitudinal axis of the valve, a first embodiment of the said positive according to the invention where the duct formed in the valve stem is an axial internal duct.
Figure 2 shows a longitudinal section * of the valve provided with its internal rich mixture pipe.
Figures 3 and 4 show slightly different embodiments of the conduit formed in the valve teat.
In figure t it can be seen that the valve 1 comprises an internal pipe 2 coaxial with the axis of the valve stem, which slides in the bore of a valve guide 18, this pipe extending into the valve head via a second pipe
3 forming an elbow with the first and, according to the embodiment considered, perpendicular to the latter. The location of this pipe 3 in the head of the valve is chosen so that, when the latter is lifted, the pipe 3 is oriented towards the electrodes 4 of the spark plug 5.
In order to maintain this orientation, it is advisable to avoid any rotation of the valve around its aze by means of a system for blocking the orientation of the valve, produced by ezemple by the cooperation of a flat 6 of which is
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
fitted to the valve stem with a fixed part such as an ergo 7, the flat end of which rests on the flat 6.
It is also possible to prevent any rotation of the valve, for example by means of a pin passing through the stem of the valve and guided in a groove parallel to the water of the latter formed in the guide 18,
Any other known device capable of preventing rotation of the valve could be used without being within the scope of the invention,
The movements of the valve are thus limited to longitudinal movements parallel to its axis.
The pipe 2 inside the valve stem communicates with the inner bore of the guide of said stem via an orifice 8 and the channel 9 for supplying rich mixture also opens into said bore of the guide via an orifice 10. .
The ports 8 and 10 are made so as not to communicate with each other when the valve is closed and to enter into communication by frying the valve with the valve.
In the closed position, the valve head is applied to the valve seat 12, formed in the cylinder head 13 of the engine, by the valve spring 14. The valve opening control can be performed by any conventional device. .
Thus, opening the valve simultaneously causes the entry into the cylinder of the rich mixture following the path 9-10-8-23 and of the lean mixture through the intake manifold 11. Conversely,

It should be noted that the diameter of the inlet duct for the rich mixture is necessarily limited by conatruction to a maximum value less than the diameter of the valve stem.
For a given air flow and taking into account the fact that a certain quantity of fuel must be introduced, this may result in a very high richness of the rich mixture.
EMI6.2
In the cases of function for which such a richness of the rich mixture would be excessive, it will be advantageous to carry out a dilution of this mixture at the time of its introduction into the chamber.
