<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOPS
DE CHARLEROI (ACEC) CAST, HARDENED SYNTHETIC RESIN INSULATOR.
In order to increase the bypass voltage it is already known to apply a slightly conductive coating on the outer surface of an insulator, for example we form a semiconductor glaze on porcelain.
This slightly conductive layer applied to the outer surface of the insulator uniforms the distribution of the voltage, but it is itself exposed to soiling from the marine or industrial atmosphere which bypasses the upper faces of the skirts in particular.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
on a hardened, cast synthetic resin insulator, it is not possible to apply a semiconductor surface coating as hard as a porcelain glaze,
The cast, hardened synthetic renin insulator according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises channels filled with a weakly conductive liquid which is brought into contact with reinforcements at different potentials.
The invention further relates to a party arrangement. It is particularly advantageous for making these channels within the mass of the insulator.
The invention is explained below with respect to an example of an embodiment shown in the accompanying drawing. The single figure in this drawing versus a partial cross-sectional view of a cast, cured synthetic resin insulator.
According to the single figure of the accompanying drawing, an insulator comprises a feed-through sleeve 1, an inner sleeve 2 and an outer sleeve with skirts 3.
Each of these parts is made from a cast and cured synthetic resin (eg silica-filled epoxy resin). The feed-through sleeve 1 is inserted into an opening in a sheet 4 of an electrical device, for example a transformer, and is fixed form @ ment on this sheet 4 using a flange 5, The feed-through sleeve 1 comprises a lower shoulder 6 on which rests the end 7 of a central metal tube 8, intended to receive a live conductor, not shown.
Such a conductor can be brazed to a metal rod 9 constituting the.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
live terminal of the insulator, The metal rod 9 can slide inside the tube 8. A sealing ring 10, comprising gaskets 11, ensures the seal between the outside of the insulator and the inside of the tube 8.
The feed-through sleeve 1 comprises another shoulder 12 on which the inner sleeve 2 bears.
The latter is kept concentric with respect to the tube 8 by means of a shoulder 13 of the outer sleeve 3.
The outer skirted sleeve 3 bears on one side on the flange 5, and is clamped and centered on the other hand by means of a retaining element, for example a nut 14 screwed on the upper end of the tube 8 Between the nut 14 and the outer skirted sleeve 3 is interposed an elastic element; for example 'two spring washers 15, and a centering bell 16. A guard and protection bell 17 covers all this tightening system.
Between the tube 8 and the inner sleeve 2 is left an annular space or channel 18. Another annular channel 19 is formed between the inner sleeve 2 and the outer skirted sleeve 3. Finally, a third annular channel 20 is provided between. the inner sleeve 2 and the feed-through sleeve
1. Channels 18 and 20 communicate with each other through shoulder 12 which is not continuous, but includes interrupts not shown. The channels 18 and 19 communicate with each other and with the space under the centering bell 16 through the shoulder 13 which is not continuous, but includes teeth not shown.
Channels 18, 19 and 20 are filled with a slightly electrically conductive liquid, for example
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
example of water, polyglycool sebacage, or another suitable liquid which does not attack the synthetic material of which the sleeves 1, 2 and 3 are made. As the channels 18, 19 and 20 communicate between them a movement of The conductive liquid has taken place in the thermosiphon effect as soon as the temperature in one of these channels differs from that prevailing in another channel. This movement of the conductive liquid avoids local inhomogeneities in conductivity. Tube 8 is under tension, as is the liquid in channel 18.
In the channels 19 and 20, a weak electric current circulates through the conductive liquid, and ensures there a regularly decreasing voltage between the ends of the tube 8 constituting the high voltage armature and the armature ring. 5 which is at ground potential. A small reserve of conductive liquid is provided in the expansion tank formed by the centering bell 16.
The example of the embodiment described above is not limiting, but may include numerous changes, in particular; it can only understand channel 19.
The channel 18 can be eliminated completely, if the sleeve 2 is cast directly around the tube 8 without any interstice which could give rise to internal odors, destroying the insulating materials. The channels need not have an annular shape, but may be formed, for example, by a series of channels of sufficiently close circular cross section.
It is also possible to provide, for example at the location of the shoulder 12, a purge duct

not shown, allowing, together with an inlet opening 21 of the centering bell 16, to easily replace the conductive liquid if the latter requires renewal following its deterioration as a function of time or of certain operating conditions. operation,
