EMI1.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

novel chemical compound with choleretic action and process for its preparation
The present invention relates to a novel chinin compound and its application in human and veterinary therapy * for choleretics, as well as to a process for its preparation.
This compound is arginine alpha-phenoxy-butyrate, of the formula
EMI1.1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This compound is in the form of shiny, colorless crystals or a colorless micrdcrystalline powder with a melting point of 95 C which is very soluble in water, in alcohols and in glycols. It looks hygroscopic.
It is prepared by following the process below:
270 g of alpha-phenoxy-butyric acid are separately dissolved in 400 ml of 95% ethanol and 261 g of arginine base in
300 ml of distilled water, the pH of this solution being approximately 9.
With mechanical stirring, the basic solution of arginine is added in a thin stream in the acid solution of alpha-phenoxy-butyric acid, or vice versa. 1-1 excess of hydroalcoholic solvent is removed in a water bath under vacuum or with a rotary evaporator.
Towards the end we collect a syrupy liquid which we bring to. Complete dryness in a vacuum desiccator with sulfuric acid or phosphoric anhydride as a drying agent.
This product has very low acute toxicity * because no mortality is observed. a dose of 2000 mg / kg per os in mice. Its interest lies in its choleretic action which is far superior to that of the best choleretics known to date, such as phenyl-ethyl-aeetamide, as shown by the results of the tests below,
The choleretic action has been sought in rats anesthetized by administration, by the intraduodenal route. doses of
200 mg / kg of each product to be tested, measurement of the bi-linkage flow rate and evaluation of the percentage increase in this flow rate in relation to the base flow rate recorded during one hour before the treatment.
The results are shown in Table 1 below.
