<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Improvements brought to the annular table. divine * for grinders and the like.
The present invention relates to grinders for the preparation of pulverized materials and it particularly lacks an annular table capable of cooperating with gaiety or other elements in order to ensure the desired grinding action. or the replacement of tables of the kind in which it has been proposed to establish them from a certain number of elements or segments in the form of truncated wedges,
each of these elements comprising two planar side faces specific to abut against the corresponding side faces of neighboring customers.
According to the present invention, and in contrast to the prior art, each segment is established in the form of a cast blank, that is to say not machined., With two straight side faces, one face. inner peripheral and one side

outer peripheral, these two peripheral faces being cut with a groove which awaits from a side face to the otter 'to receive retaining devices via the.
which the segments are fixed to a cup forming a support * By eliminating the machining which is usually carried out on the cast part, the segments can be made of a metal alloy much harder than it omits has been possible to do so until now. As a result, the useful life of the annular tables produced by means of such segments is much longer than that of the tables known prior to the invention.
Since the as-molded faces always have small irregularities, the problem of how to securely attach the various segments to the cup or tray has to be solved. If devices suitable for fixing several segments to this plate are used, the aforementioned irregularities may cause only some of them to be rigidly held in place, namely those which have projecting irregularities, the other segments then having game or not being fixed on a regular basis.
In accordance with another feature of the invention, the aforementioned problem is solved by the use of retaining rings, at least one of which is made of a malleable metal capable of conforming to them, if any, surface irregularities of the grooves of the segments. , which results in an energetic blocking of all these on the cuvette or tray.
The invention can, in any case, be well understood with the aid of the description which follows and of the accompanying drawings, which description and drawings are, of course, given above all by way of indication.

In fig. 1 shows a bowl mill for coal or other materials * to which the general reference has been assigned
10. Inside the frame of this crusher is disposed a bowl or turntable 12 mounted on a shaft 14. The shaft 14 and the bowl 12 which is integral with it are rotated by 1 * via a helical wheel. 18 in engagement with a worm 16 is shown on a shaft 20 driven by a suitable motor not shown.
The Machine also comprises one or more elements or grinding rollers 22 mounted to rotate on shafts 24. An adjustable spring 26 urges each roller 22 against the inner face of the grinding table carried by the bowl 12 and which will be described below .
The coal to be pulverized is introduced into the crusher through the inlet 28. The air flows through the annular space 31 surrounding the bowl 12 to entrain the crushed material which overflows above the lip of this bowl, this material thus passing through the interior of the crusher to end at the separator 34., The air and the coal enter the latter through openings 32. The larger particles of coal, insufficiently crushed, fall back onto the grinding surface through the lower opening 36 in order to undergo a new operation, while the finer particles are entrained and evacuate with the air through the outlets 38.
The surface which cooperates with the rollers 22 to ensure the grinding operation is constituted by an annular table 40

Figs 2 and 3 show in more detail the ôcn, t1tu .., tien of the divided grinding table. This table, which rotates relative to the grinding rollers, consists of a number of elements 70 in the form of truncated wedges fixed against each other. The inner peripheral face of these latter

50 of said tackle. This retaining ring 52 can be divided like the table itself or be made into three or more pieces for ease of assembly.
It is energetically clamped against the groove 50 by the conical hub 42, which is itself blocked on the cup 12 by the screws 46, as explained above.
The segments 70 are as-cast, none of their faces being machined. These faces may therefore have slight irregularities. It is for this reason that we use

the retaining ring $ 2. In the absence of this ring, if it ex1.-. were protruding points on the inner peripheral face of some of the segments, the latter would be the only ones to come into contact with the conical hub of the cup. However, the retaining ring 52 is made of mild steel or of another material liable to be deformed by crushing under the effect of the hub.

conical when tightening screws 46.
As a result, the edge or inner face of all segments is thus securely locked onto the cup.
The outer peripheral face of the segments 70 is secured to the cup 12 by an outer retaining ring 56 pressed against a groove 54 of the face in question by a number of screws 58 which pass through the edge of said cup 12. Here still the ring 56 is made in three pieces to facilitate the watch. Open 12 carries a peripheral ring protruding
64 Rises against the inner face of its lateral edge and which forms a retaining member for the coal being crushed.
As 18 clearly show in fig. 4 ot 5, each segment 70 comprises a depression, 60 in its lower face, while its upper face has on its side a projecting rib62 The role of these elements will be explained below.
Prior to the present invention annular grinding tables were established in the form of forgings or castings.
Only a fairly limited number of materials could be used for this purpose, since it had to be worked and machined before mounting it in the crusher. The elements 70 in the form of truncated wedges according to the present invention are obtained by molding * but do not have to be worked or machined at all * It can therefore be done in an extremely hard material having very good resistance to leaching. abrasion In fact the metal used may have a Bockvell hardness of
around 75. By way of example of materials capable of being used in this way, mention may be made of those sold under the “NIHARD” or DIAMITE ”brands.
The depression 60 involves a surface appreciably greater than that of the remaining part * of the lower face of each element or segment 70. It reduces the weight of the element and ensures a saving in material * In addition, this recess means that only the extreme peripheral edges of the underside
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
of the above-mentioned element come to rest on the bowl 12.
Therefore, if this face had some slight ir-
EMI6.1
regularities, 1 element and rises better "than it would in the absence of the depression. As the elements considered are made of a material which cannot be machined at a low cost price, this characteristic presents a great importance.

It goes without saying, and as moreover already emerges from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its application sodas, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts, having been more specially indicated; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants ...
