<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

On a décrit ci-après diverses formes de réali- sation pratique de l'invention, en se référant aux dessine annexas dans lesquels s Fig.1 est une vue en coupe d'une machine d'extrusion équipée du dispositif selon l'invention, représentée pendant l'injection! Fig.2 est une vue en coupe du même dispositif dans la position correspondant au stade do refroidissement et d'alimentation de la chambre d'injection;
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

3Perfection in injection-transfer molding "
The present invention relates to improvements in injection-transfer molding, intended more particularly for the manufacture of molded parts of a significant weight, of the order of 1 kilogram at least.
For such relief operations, three types of machines are currently used.
In a first case, an extrusion screw, driven in rotation in a cylinder, supplies an auxiliary transfer chamber. During injection, the plastic material is forced by a piston out of the transfer chamber} the communication between the chamber and the cylinder is closed by a valve and the rotation of the screw is stopped during the injection * In these machines , we come up against the inconvenience that the volume of the transfer chamber being
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
necessarily greater than the volume of the part to be injected, the injection piston cannot, at each maneuver, completely empty the transfer chamber. A certain quantity of material which is little or badly stirred, therefore remains inside the chamber, overheats, deteriorates and causes defects in the molded parts.
In a second type of machine, not including a transfer chamber, it has already been proposed to stop the rotation of the screw at the time of injection and, using it as a piston, to make it advance at the same time. inside the cylinder in which olle spun.
As we are in practice quickly limited in this movement, we do not, under these conditions, realize that the molding of small parts
The machines of the third type obtain an extrusion via rotating in a cylinder which itself acts as a piston in the injection or transfer chamber located coaxially at the end of the cylinder; a non-return valve is fitted at the end of the screw at the end of the cylinder * In this third case also, the rotation of the screw is stopped at the time of injection. Such an arrangement is suitable for molding large parts, but its drawback is that, because of the high pressures exerted by the cylinder in which the extrusion screw rotates, the sealing of the cylinder of the extrusion screw is very difficult to ensure. .
We have therefore sought to overcome in a simple manner these various drawbacks of injection machines of known types Oven an extrusion screw molding machine comprising a transfer chamber and an injection pot
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
we have. then had the idea, which is the basis of the present intention, on the one hand to keep the extrusion via in continuous rotation, on the other hand, to simultaneously vary the volumes of the transfer chambers and injection while maintaining between them a communication which can be successively closed in both directions, the control of the variation of said volumes being ensured in such a way as to maintain the maximum pressure in the transfer chamber in the direction of the increase in pressure. volume of the latter.
For this purpose, a machine of the aforementioned type essentially comprises, on the one hand, in the cylindrical bore which forms the transfer chamber then the injection chamber, a scavenging piston actuated by the hydraulic injection assembly and notched. do so as to allow the continuous arrival of the morning.
re plasticized towards the transfer chamber, a cylindrical rod sliding in the piston, on the other hand a drilled mobile part moving along the axis of the bore and on one end of the tigo at which each of its faces serves as a stop for one of the people on the move, on the other hand also auxiliary means actuated by the hydraulic assembly and acting on the sweeping piston to limit its movement out of the chamber and, finally, means such as electrical contacts respectively secured to the sweeping piston and to the coaxial rod thereof to actuate the hydraulic assembly.
More particularly, a machine for injection-transfer molding, of the aforementioned type, is, according to the invention, characterized by the combination of a transfer chamber, one of the ends of which is closed by a sliding movable sweeping piston. in said fed chamber and laterally
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
and permanently, by a known assembly of plasticization and of an infection chamber adjoining the transfer chamber, both preferably cylindrical and preferably having the marl diameter and the same axis,
separated from each other by a moving part acting sometimes as a non-return valve allowing the plastic material to pass from the transfer chamber to the injection chamber, sometimes as a piston to force the material which fills the chamber into the mold. injection when, by means of a cylindrical rod sliding in the scavenging piston, integral with a slight axial play of the moving part and being able to serve as a valve seat for the moving part, it pushes it towards the injection chamber or return it (valve open) to the transfer chamber outside the injection period, said moving part undergoing the action of the hydraulic injection piston,
the scavenging piston itself being supplied to the action of auxiliary hydraulic pistons which tend to maintain in the transfer chamber, within the plastic material, the maximum normal pressure which can be? provided by the plasticizing device by constantly opposing the recoil of said piston which the plastic material constantly pushes outwards in the direction corresponding to the increase in volume of the transfer chamber, or they come into mechanical abutment , or because of the thrust that they can exert during the injection period when they are subjected to the same pressure as the hydraulic injection piston in which they slide.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The invention also makes it possible to vary the stroke of the sweeping piston as a function of the volume of the parts to be molded, which makes it possible to increase the possibilities of using the same press. According to one feature, the auxiliary piston can be made to act on the scavenging piston by means of a linkage of which at least one element is of adjustable length; a variant consists of replacing the crankshaft with a hydraulic control. Another characteristic of the invention consists in that the injection unit is made movable, between certain limits, with respect to the frame of the press.
In view of its general embodiment and more clearly still when it comprises all the above characteristics, the invention makes it possible to avoid any stagnation of the plastic material in front of the sweeping piston at the end of the stroke, in particular for the molding of small volume parts, as well as the resulting molding defects.
The invention also facilitates the adjustment of * different molds which may have to be placed successively on the plate, eliminates the bad supports likely to come from the expansion of the injection block, allows to take off the nose of the mold outside the period injection, which avoids too much cooling of said nose remaining in constant contact with the mold and finally allows sufficiently large take-off of the mold in cases where it is necessary to extract. after ingection.
the injection core from the front of the mold,

Various forms of practical embodiment of the invention have been described below, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which FIG. 1 is a sectional view of an extrusion machine equipped with the device according to the invention, shown during injection! Fig.2 is a sectional view of the same device in the position corresponding to the stage of cooling and supplying the injection chamber;
Fig.3 is a similar view showing said device in its position corresponding to the end of the cooling stage and to the start of the injection stage
Fig.4 is a sectional view of a machine in which the auxiliary piston acts by a linkage on the scavenging piston.
Fig.5 is a sectional view of a machine with hydraulic control of the action of the auxiliary piston on the sweeping piston.
As shown in Figures 1 to 3, the extrusion machine comprises a cylinder 1 heated externally by any suitable means and into which enters a hopper 2 for feeding raw material. In the cylinder 1 can turn the extrusion screw 3 driven in rotation, at the speed suitable for the parts to be molded, by, a group 4 motor-reducer with variator arranged at one end of the aim
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
At the other end of cylinder 1, a channel 5 makes the cylinder communicate with the interior of the cylindrical transfer chamber 6 fitted in the injection pot 7 pierces an injection channel 8 (following a chamber 8 '),
on the nose 9 of which the mold, not shown, is mounted. In the example, the channel 8 is connected to the injection nose 9 by means of an automatic pressure regulator constituted by the chamber 10 connected to the channel 8, the chamber 11 opening out through the channel 9 into the mold) the valve spool 12 which, at the end of the injection, closes the passage 13 formed between the chambers 10 and 11, the lever 14 centered at 15, one end of which carries at the end of the valve spool 12 and the other at the end regulating piston 16,
sliding in its support 17 and subjected at 18 to the hydraulic regulating pressure as described and represented in French patent N PV 819.321 of February 23, 1960 and the addition N PV 852.986 of February 16, 1961 for "Regulator of automatic pressure for injection molding machines "
In the transfer chamber 6 of the injection pot 7 can move the sweeping piston 19, which closes the transfer chamber 6 and in which is freely slidably mounted the rod 20, the rear face of which is subjected to the action. the injection piston 21,
actuated from the hydraulic cylinder 22 integral with the pot 7 by means of the support frame 221, the piston 19 ends in a stop collar 19 '; the piston 21 has a shape such that it provides in the cylinder 22 a pressure chamber 23 and a return chamber 2 'respectively supplied by pipes 25 and 26
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
and separated by the collar 21 '. In the piston 21 can slide at least soft auxiliary pistons 27, one end of which is permanently pressed against the sweeping piston 19 and the other ends of which open into the pressure chamber 23.
Electrical contacts 28 and 29 are mounted on the frame 22 so that they can be opened or closed respectively, depending on the requirements of the operation, by the fingers 30 and 31 carried, the first by the flange 19 'of the piston 19, the second by rod 20.
According to the invention, the rod 20 is terminated on the side opposite the piston 21, by a bearing surface 35 of smaller diameter and on the threaded end of which a nut 36 is screwed; said rod further comprises a collar 37 at the junction of its large and small diameter portions.
In the transfer chamber 6 is mounted a mobile part 38 bored to the diameter of the rod 35 and which can slide with a very small clearance on this rod and in the common bore of the injection pot 7 and of the chamber 6. The piece 38 is hollowed out at its ends by soft opposite conical bearing surfaces 39 and 40.
The nut 36 can bear against the conical bearing 40 and the flange 37 can take the opposite flange 39 as a seat. On the other hand, the mobile part 38 is provided with several conical bores 41, regularly distributed around its axis and which connect between them the bearing surfaces 39 and 40, so as to ensure, where appropriate, communication between the transfer chamber 6 and the injection chamber 8 'located at the internal end of the channel 6. Finally, the sweeping piston 19 is cut with a groove 42 intended to establish a communication between the channel 5 of the cy-

liner 1 and transfer chamber 6.
The operation of the machine equipped according to the invention is as follows @
For greater clarity) it has been assumed that the machine is used to mold parts weighing about 3 kg from a machine cott, the injection piston can exert a thrust of 70 tons, the three auxiliary pistons 27 have, in total, a section of 15 cm2 and, when the pressure chamber 23 is subjected to a pressure of 200 kg / cm2, They exert a total thrust of 3 tons, the bore of the cylinder 7 through which the moving part slides 38 has a section of 130 cm2. The piston rod 20 has a section of 30 cm2.
Finally, the injection screw 3 is able to push back the plastic material in the transfer chamber 6 under a maximum pressure of 50 kg / cm2 In this machine, the plastic material to be added falls from the hopper 2 into the cylinder 1 where it advances under the notion of the screw 3, passing gradually from the solid state to a fluid state, up to the channel 5 from which it is pushed into the chamber 6. The hydraulic pressure y having been admitted by the cenûlisation 25 in the pressure chamber 23 (Figure 1), the injection piston 21 comes to bear on the end of the piston rod 20 which it then pushes back towards the injection chamber 8 '.
The flange 37 of the piston rod 20 abuts on the conical bearing surface 39, thus closing the boreholes 41, then pushes back the moving part 38. The latter, acting as a piston, pushes back the plastic shoe accumulated in the injection chamber 8 'towards the orifice 9 which communicates with the mold.

38, under the pressure of the plastic material contained in the transfer chamber 6, aura. includes the material which fills the injection chamber 8 ', the channel 8 and the chambers 10 and 11 and will have moved slightly, the conical bearing surface 39 will take off from the flange 37 of the piston 20, Thanks to the boreholes 41, the plastic material can pass from the transfer chamber 6 into the injection chamber 8 'where the pressure is thus established at the pressure value prevailing in the transfer chamber 6.
Under the action of this pressure exerted on the end of the piston rod 20, the latter is pushed outwards from the balyege piston 19 (with a force of 1.5 tonnes equal to the product of its area, i.e. 30 cm2, by the value do the maximum pressure generated by the extrusion screw 3, ie 50 kg / cm2); the nut 36 abuts on the bearing surface 40, the piston rod 20 therefore drives the movable part 38 in its movement, and the plastic material is forced from the transfer chamber 6 to the injection chamber 8 '. owing to the automatic pressure regulator, it has meanwhile caused the closure of the orifice of the nose 9 by the valve slide 12.
At the end of the cooling stage (see figure 3), the rod 20, entering the sweeping piston 19, increases on the one hand (because of its section of 30 cm2) the volume of all the chambers 6 and 8 'and, on the other hand, closes the contact 29 by the finger 31 of the rod 20; this closing of the contact 29, which is in series with the contact 28 which has been seen to have been closed by the finger 30 carried by the collar 19 ', then causes, for example by a relay not shown, read restarting of the injection cycle described with reference to FIG. 1.

In the inventio machine, the whole of the injection unit is fixed to the support 61 which can slide by its base 62 on the frame of the machine * In the bloo, we find the usual elements the injection cylinder 22 with the pressurization pipe 25 terminating at 63 at the bottom of the cylinder and supplying, uu passage,
.the channel 52 for supplying the cylinder 59 and the pipe 26 exiting the approximation of the injection piston 21, the thrust tigo 20 which slides in the sweeping piston 19, the movable part 38 serving in turn, or for the transfer of the plastic material contained in the transfer chamber 6 to the end 59 of the injection pot 7, or to the pressure discharge of said material towards the nose at the time of injection. The block also includes a cylinder 64 in which slides the piston 65, the threaded end 66 of which can be screwed or unscrewed in the ocher '67 integral with the part 68.

When we word the pipe 70 under prized the piston 65 being immobilized by the nut 67, the whole of the injection unit moves by sliding on its base 62 and comes to firmly apply the end of the hez 71 on the part to the mold fixed to the plate 69. The support reaction is then taken by the aforementioned tie rods which are mounted so as to work in traction. At the end of the injection, the supply at 70 is cut off and then established at 72.
The injection bloo @ moves back and the nose 71 moves away from the mold.
The operation of the injection unit, carried out under the above conditions, allows, thanks to the present invention 1 a) to adjust nose 71 to the various molds which may have to be fixed successively on the plate 69 and of which the indentations, on which the nose rests 8 ', may present some differences, b) to remove the bad supports which could come from the fact of the expansion of the injection block, c) to slightly lift the noz 71 from the mold, outside of the injection period, to prevent the nose from cooling too much by constantly remaining in contact with the mold, d)
to obtain a relatively large take-off of the ne 71 when after injection it is necessary in certain cases to extract the injection curette through the vent of the mold.

this position of the hollow piston 80, the face of the arm 79 is parallel to the axis of the injection pot 7 when it bears on the end of the piston 80.
In this position of the arm, the chop with which the piston 12 is provided is slightly detached from the seat 85 which separates the chamber 86, located at the end of the nose 71, from the chamber which, through the channel 8 communicates with the interior of the injection pot 7. As can be seen from the above patents and certificate of addition, the lever 14 is, at the same time, subjected on the one hand, at its end 76, to the force exerted by the plastic material contained in chaobre 86 on the valve piston 12 and, on the other hand, to the force exerted by the hollow piston 80 due to the hydraulic injection pressure transmitted by the pipe 82.

The injection is finished and that one stops feeding the pipe 82, the spring 84 pushes back the 'piston 77 which, on the one hand, discharges the hydraulic fluid which filled the bore of the body 81 and, of on the other hand, flies tilting the luvier 14 following F4 as a result of the action of the end of the rod 78 on the arm 79 of this lever. The arm 76 of the lever 14 pushes back the valve piston 12 and the other end of this valve piston 12 obturor the orifice 87 through which the ohambru 86 communicated with the mold.
Finally, the body of the injection pot 7 and its support comprise recess 88 in which the extracts 89 and 90 of the support 75 can move on which the axo 15 and the body 81 are fixed; a screw (not shown) allows immobilize the support 75 once the adjustment is complete.
During this movement, the balance of the lever) during the injection period is not modified. On the other hand, the position of the piston 12 varies, relative to the seat 85.d'une amount equal to the value of the displacement of the support 75. The passage offort to the plastic material varies in the same cens. It can thus be modified to adapt it optimally to the desired injection speed.
In the variant do Figure 5, the crankshaft of the example of Figure 4 is replaced by a hydraulic control the injection piston 21 this traversed parallel to its nxu by at least two sliding tigos 100 (auxiliary pistons which are extended through the bottom of the injection cylinder 22 by smaller rods or tails 101).

The plate 106 is drilled with a fluid channel 107. In the bore 104 moves a piston 108 with a rod 109 fixed by a nut 110 to the fixed frame 69.
According to a generator, the terminal body 102 comprises a groove 111 downstream from the shoulder 103. A Minutaire part 112 provided with an internal filotago 113 is mounted on the body 102; it comprises one of which 114 engaged in the groove 111. On the part 112 this fixed a contaotuur 11 whose head 115 'can be actuated by the end of a back tails 101 ot logor in the recess- mount 112' do the part 112. Between the shoulder 103 and the end plate 106 is mounted with a slight axial play a ring 116 threaded externally at the pitch of the thread 113 and provided do handles of the maneuver 117.
A contact 118 is disposed in the path of the injection unit to cut off the supply 107 of fluid upstream of the piston 104. Soft contacts 118-119 are provided to adjust the length of the recoil.
With a machine thus equipped, the short exit of the sweeping piston 20 is limited by the action of the back-league 100, which slide backs the bores of the injection piston 21. The tails 101 which pass through the bottom of the injection cylinder 22 abut against the annular piece 112, of which 113 slides in the groove 111, The ring 116 is held captive between the shoulder 103 formed in the body 102 and the closure plate 106 at the end of the body 102.
