BRAKING DEVICE
The present invention relates to a braking device with two control levers articulated on the same part and each of which is, moreover, articulated on at least one braking member.
One of the levers generally provides braking in normal service and the other exceptionally when required. Such a device can be used, for example, on Koepe pulley pulling machines.
The object of the device of the invention is to make braking possible even in the event of damage to the control of one of the levers.
It is characterized essentially by the fact that at least one stop limits the angular displacement of at least one braking member, relative to the lever on which it is ar-

The accompanying figures show embodiments of the invention given by way of indication and not by way of limitation.
Figure 1 shows an embodiment with simple stops.
Figures 2 and 3 show an embodiment with enoo- ohes, Figure 2 giving a detail of Figure 3.
FIG. 4 shows an embodiment with an elastic joint.
In FIG. 1, the device comprises a braking member constituted by soft jaws 1 and 2 articulated on the one hand, at their upper part on two levers 3 and 4 and, on the other hand, at their lower part. Two stops 5 and 6 are mounted on the levers 3 and 4. The lever 3 is controlled by a rod 7 connected to a compressed air cylinder 8 provided with a return spring. The lever 4 is controlled by a rod 9 connected to a compressed air cylinder 10 fitted with a return counterweight 21. The levers 3 and 4 are connected to each other by a rod 13 articulated at its two ends * Two supports 11 and 12 are provided near the jaws 1 and 2.
Under these conditions, the operation is established as follows. When there is admission of compressed air into the cylinder 8, the lever 3 is raised, the jaws 1 and 2 are separated and the brake is released. When the air escapes, the return spring of the cylinder 8 moves the rod 7 downwards: the jaws 1 and 2 are brought together and the brake is applied.
If the rod 7 breaks, the stopper 5 would limit the upward movement of the lever 3, which would allow tightening by the return counterweight 21.
If necessary, the second brake is used, the operation of which is identical to the first except as regards the braking force which is obtained by the return counterweight 21.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
If the rod 9 were to break, the stop 6 would limit the upward movement of the lever 4, which would allow the clamping by the return spring of the cylinder 8.
Figures 2 and 3 show another embodiment of the invention. A notch is provided on the bore 20 of the jaw 16 which corresponds to a projection of the bore 14 of the lever 15 * the bores 20 and 14 are arranged on an axis 17.
While the notch of bore 14 covers approximately three-quarters of the section, that of bore 20 covers only half of it, which allows the clearance necessary for operation.
FIG. 4 shows another embodiment of the invention by elastic articulation na allowing only a certain angular displacement between the axis them integral with the jaw 22, and the bore 19 integral with the lever 23.
It is understood that it is possible, without departing from the spirit of the invention, to modify construction details or their arrangement in order to obtain the same result.
One could, for example, equip the bearing surface of the stops 5 and 6 with a flexible material to absorb shocks in the event of rupture of one of the control rods.
The invention is also applicable in the case where each lever is provided with two independent control devices, one ensuring clamping and the other loosening.
