<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
Grâce à la structure qui est à la base de la présente invention, il deviont possible de trouver une solution tout à fait satisfaisante à tous non problèmes. En effet ;

"improvements to auac machined rotary blowers"
The present invention relates to rotary blowing machines, both of the centrifugal type and of the axial type, composed of a fixed part, in which a rotor 4 rotates several wheels of suitable dimensions, separated by fixed rectifiers $ streams of fluid. .
Usually, the rotor comprises a shaft which rests on two bearings placed at the ends of the stator constituting the sealed volute. Such an arrangement, which gives satisfaction for
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a stult wheel or machines of small dissensions present a whole series of drawbacks, both mechanical and aerodynamic, when it comes to machines which have several wheels, these drawbacks being all the more seriously that the wheels are many, bigger. dimensions and turn at higher speeds.
Farmi Ion disadvantages, common to centrifugal machines and classic axial machines, we can mention a) the great length of the rotor shaft, supported only at both ends, gives rise to a critical speed which is inside the range of operating speeds, so that it is necessary to avoid operating the machine 4 at its critical speed, which this troublesome constraint and a source of troubles when changing from this speed. b) all the weight of the rotor being supported only by two bearings, the unit pressure on said bearings is very high, which makes the design and proper functioning of the bearings difficult.
To reduce the unit pressure, one could consider increasing the length of the bearings compared to their diameter, but it would then hit a. other difficulties, for there is a practical limit to the ratio of the length of a bearing to its diameter, a limit which should not be exceeded for various considerations verified by experience, and which will not be developed. not here.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
c) The whole weight of the rotor is supported by the soft ends of the frame only, so that the fatigue of the latter is very unevenly distributed in its mass.
d) Aerodynamic drawbacks, in particular in the case of centrifugal machines, as will be explained later.
According to the invention, the aforementioned innovations of the conventional arrangement are remedied by resting the rotor shaft, not only on the two end bearings, but also on intermediate paliera housed in the fixed rectifier dao fluid veins.
Thanks to this particular arrangement, the critical speed of the rotor goes up to a very high value well above the maximum speed of use, so that it is never reached and that one obtains, consequently a functioning very rational of the machine, without vibrations. The unit pressure on the bearings is reduced to quite moderate values, given the multiplicity of bearing surfaces of the shaft on the fixed frame. The total weight of the rotor is almost evenly distributed over the frame since it is transferred to a whole series of bearings.
With regard to centrifugal rotary machines more particularly, since the increase in the length of the rotor shaft is limited for the reasons indicated above, only a relatively short axial length is available.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
for each of the wheels in multi-deck machines.
The result, for example, that it is not possible to provide each centrifugal wheel with a cylindrical inlet, that is to say an inlet in which the fluid streams are directed parallel to the axis of the rotor, which would also be very desirable from the aerodynamic point of view,
Oven the marl due to limitation of the length of the machine, the fixed straighteners arranged between the wheels are relatively short in the axial direction, so that we are obliged to give them a profile which deviates much from the ideal aerodynamic profile . This therefore results in an undesirable limitation of the roundness of the machine.
In order not to increase the length of the rotor shaft, we have so far been led to place the wheels relatively close to each other, so that we have not had the possibility of accommodating, in front of each wheel, a system of adjustment by turning, which would however be very desirable also from the point of view of the aerodynamic efficiency of the machine.
When the tree is supported only by. its two ends must have a relatively large diameter to be strong enough, so that the diameter of the fluid inlet opening is relatively large, however, the outside diameter of the wheels is generally limited by the maximum peripheral speed that we can give them, it follows that the ratio of the diameter of
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
said inlet opening to the outer diameter of the blades * of the wheel is relatively large which * and also unfavorable from the point of view of efficiency.
in addition, the larger the diameter of the arbra and the greater the aerodynamic effect on the fluid that carried this harmful effect.
Thanks to the structure which is the basis of the present invention, it should be possible to find a completely satisfactory solution to all these problems. Indeed ;
The assembly of intermediate bearings makes it possible to give the rotor shaft as long as desired.
We therefore have the honor of endowing; each wheel, with a cylindrical inlet, to place, between two successive wheels, straighteners of an axial length as great as desired, so as to give them the aerodynamic profile which is closest to the ideal profile , to be able to have before the entry of each wheel, a position sufficient to fit a system of adjustment by Giration, finally do will considerably reduce the diameter of the arbra and, consequently, to reduce the ratio of the diameter of the inlet opening of the wheels to the outer diameter of their blades, at the same time as reducing the harmful effects of a large diameter of the shaft on the aerodynamic behavior of the fluid conveyed.
It will also be noted that, in conventional machines, to raise the critical speed above the operating speed, the

In a part1ou11or embodiment, eohématicluomant r'aprésonté in FIG. 8, the iT8.1..o.gG of all the bearings is provided by a common installation comprising 1 a common reservoir 81, a pump P which sucks the oil in the reservoir 81 and sends it in a common delivery pipe 82, under a pressure higher than that of the medium in the bay there is the bearing 7 of the last stage of the machine, of the individual pipes 83 for the discharge of the oil connected in bypass on the general pipe 82 (see also fig.
2 and 3) and opening into the bearings

corresponding, individual pipes 84 for returning the oil from the bearings to traps 85, and finally individual pipes 86 for returning the oil from the traps 85 to the reservoir 81, via collecting pipes 87 and 88.
Each trap 85 comprises a valve 91 which is normally closed and which opens only, for example under the action of a float 92 mounted in the trap, 'when the level of the oil collected in said trap exceeds a predetermined height,
In operation, the pump constantly delivers pressurized oil to the bearings, and as the oil collects in each trap, the excess flows into the reservoir.
Each individual return line 86 is connected to the bottom of the corresponding trap, so that only the oil can return to the tank through these lines, excluding the air which remains above the level of the oil, in each purgaur.
In fig. 9, the application of the invention to an axial fan of which only a part has been shown, namely five wheels 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 integral with a rotating shaft 106, and the fixed rectifiers has been shown schematically. corresponding intermediates 107, 108, 109, 110.
