Medication based on an aqueous solution * of ferrous chloride and ssoorbic acid.
The present invention relates to the treatment of anemias, mainly terriprivate anemia, by the administration of ferrous salts. It has more particularly for object, as a new drug, useful for this treatment as well as as a general reconstituting and tonic, a drinkable pharmaceutical composition, of long duration of administration and of which the essential constituents from the therapeutic point of view. are a ferrous salt of mineral acid, in this case ferrous chloride, and ascorbic acid.
The administration of iron salt to remedy iron deficiencies:} of various origins has long been known. As the elements of low oxidation degree are generally better absorbed by the body, most of the drugs proposed for the treatment of terri- private anemia therefore contain ferrous salts *
This justified preference, however, raises
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
practical difficulties, especially in the treatment of young children, who can more easily be made to swallow solutions or syrups than tablets or pills,
whereas the salts of òr-11 and of organic acids can hardly be present except under these last two * for-

Louriquand (Path. And Biols (1957), 33, p. 2209) who demonstrated the favorable role of 1-azoorbic acid or vitamin 0 in the absorption of iron and its fixation in the body, the stabilizing effect of ascorbic acid on solutions of ferrous salts was studied by m. Brown

In addition, browning of the solution is observed and the formation of a precipitate.
The present invention satisfactorily solves *

the double problem of stabilization, on the one hand of a ferrous salt and, on the other hand, of ascorbic acid, both present in a therapeutic manner in one and the same solution.

Its object is, as a new and useful drug both by its assimilable ferrous salt content and by its high content of vitamin c, a drinkable pharmaceutical composition based on a ferrous salt, which is

The pharmaceutical composition representing the new
EMI3.3
medicament object of the invention is distinguished in particular in that it comprises, in aqueous solution of ferrous chloride, a.uoor'b1l1ue acid, aoi, o citric and glycerin.
It has in fact been observed, in accordance with the invention, that the stability of such a solution is markedly greater than that of aqueous solutions with an analogous concentration of ferrous chloride and of ascorbic acid, even if these solutions contain auai, as a third dissolved constituent, glycerin or citric acid. The results observed in the context of the invention are all the more surprising since the only addition of one or the other of the last two component, glycerin or citric acid, to an aqueous solution of ferrous chloride and ascorbic acid will not improve
