<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Les exemples suivants illustrent l'invention sans en limiter aucunement la portée EXEMPLE 1 ; On effectue des essaie de croissance avec la moeno. myoine suèdes poussins mâles Nichol, élevée dans deo batte- ries chauffées électriquement et comportant des fonds de toile métalliqueOn commence les essais avec des poussins d'un jour; les essais s'étendent sur une période de 4 à 6 semaines ;

"Animal food which contains moenomyoine"
The present invention relates to feeds for animal feed which contain an antibiotic.
The animal feeds of the present invention which contain an antibiotic and which accelerate growth and increase yield, have the characteristic of containing moenomyoine. These animal feeds contain moenomycin in an amount between 0.1 and 50 mg, preferably 0.5 and 10 mg, per kg of feed.
Comparative animal feeding trials have shown that moenomyoine added to food has a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
better effect than toga An antibiotic heretofore used for this purpose, for example penicillin, ohlorotd-tracycline and bacitracin.
Moenomyoine is an antibiotic which can be prepared according to the process of German Patent No. 1,113,791 of February 10, 1960 and which is preferably formed in the mycelium of a streptomycete. This antibiotic can be added to animal feed either in the form of the dead and dry mycelium or in the form of the isolated and possibly purified product.
It has been found that animal feeds which contain moenomyoine greatly accelerate growth and markedly increase feed utilization by animals fed such feed. Monomyoine, for example, in the amounts indicated above, is added to conventional feed mixtures, for example to forages prepared in accordance with the specifications of the German Society of Agriculture (DLG).
In series of tests carried out on chicks lasting 2 to 6 weeks, moenomyoine, added to feed products in amounts between 0.5 and 20 g per tonne of feed, produced weight gains of between 4.7 and 37.0 and increases in food use (kg of food per kg of weight gain) of between 2.9 and 9.4%.
As emerges from the values indicated in the tables of the examples below ,. the effect of an addition of moenomyoine is in all cases superior to that produced by penicillin, baototraony or chlorotetracycline, examined in the same tests. What is particularly interesting is that the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
moenomycin, even when it is very low in food, greatly increases weight gain. It has been found, for example, that the effect of moenomyoine is significantly greater than that of chlorotetracyoline, even the amount of the latter in food is 20 times greater.
Moenomyoine is advantageously distinguished from the above-mentioned antibiotics by the fact that it produces greater weight gain and better utilization of the food supplied to the animals, even if food products of optimum quality are used.
The animal feeds of the present invention, o
EMI3.1
o that is to say containing mnorraine, are particularly suitable for feeding poultry, especially chickens and turkeys, also pigs and calves, as well as cattle, cows and oxen. fertilizer,
The following examples illustrate the invention without in any way limiting its scope EXAMPLE 1; We carry out growth tests with the moeno. myoine sweden Nichol male chicks, reared in two electrically heated bat- tery with wire mesh bottoms Trials begin with day-old chicks; the trials extend over a period of 4 to 6 weeks;
during this time, the weight of the chicks and their food consumption are determined weekly. The food used has the following composition:

EXAMPLE 6 On. compares the effect of moenomyoine added to two different mixtures of forage having a roughly similar composition h, but with mixture 1 containing 16% crude protein and mixture II 20 of crude protein, The proportion of protein of animal origin to those of plant origin were in each mixture of 1: 3. By way of comparison, a mixture of each type containing a proportion of chlorotetracycline 20 fols greater than that of the moenomyoine contained in the samples tested, ie 10 mg / kg of food, is used.
