ECHANGEUR THERMIQUE"
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

HEAT EXCHANGER"
Gas heaters or coolers generally consist of a bundle of parallel tubes threaded through holes made in a series of sheets perpendicular to the tubes and constituting the fins. The manufacture of such heat exchangers is storytelling; it is necessary to place the fins in back combs keeping them at the spacing, then to thread the tubes one by one in the series of holes, to crimp each of these tubes in the fins by expansion and to connect them between them by appropriate curved tubes.
The size of the fins and the number of tubes are
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
depending on the size of the heat exchanger, the manufacture of a more or less extended range of types requires significant tools and this range is necessarily limited.
The exchanger according to the invention has, compared with known apparatus, the advantage of simple and inexpensive manufacture, whatever the size of the exchange surface. It is characterized in that it is formed by the assembly of identical elements each consisting of fins threaded either on two straight tubes or on a tube folded into a hairpin, each element being finished, to each of its ends, by a rectangular fin, the length of which is a multiple of the width, provided on its periphery with tabs or other means allowing the assembly of the different elements between them and the tube passing through this fin in the center of the constructed square at each end of the long side of the fin with its smallest dimension as the side.
These elements can be mass produced using a trichina and assembled in all kinds of ways to achieve the desired heat exchanger.
The description below, with reference to the appended drawing, relates to a non-limiting example of an embodiment of an exchanger according to the invention. fig. 1 shows a perspective view of an exchanger element. It consists of a tube 1,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
folded into a hairpin, threaded into openings made in rectangular fins such as 2. The end fins 3 are provided, on their periphery, with pattea such as 4, bent at right angles, in which holes 5 are made for to the passing of bolts or other means of assembly. The fins 3 are rectangular and their long side is twice as large as the small one.
The two branches of the tube 1 pass through the fins 3 in the center of the squares built on the ends of the long side with the small dimension as the side.
It is understood that such an element can be easily manufactured by means of a machine in which the fins are cut from a metal strip and distributed to their respective locations and the tube threaded and expanded to crimp it into the fins,
Figures 2 and 3 show respectively an end view and a profile view of an exchanger formed by the assembly of elements 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 similar to that of FIG. 1. the elements 6, 7 8 and 9 are juxtaposed side by side by their long side and superimposed on the-. two elements 10 and 41 assembled by their small side.
As the large dimension is double the small one, the assembly has a rectangular section and due to the fact that the tubes open out in the center of the squares built on the extracted ones on the large side,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
they are equidistant from one element to the other whatever their relative positions so that they can be connected to each other by identical tubes such as 12.
It can be seen that by providing elements of several different lengths it is possible to achieve an extremely wide range of exchangers.
One can, of course, imagine other means of assembling the elements together than those described above; other variants can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.
