<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

dranken in voorafbepaaide'oeveelheden.

The invention relates to the technique of tapping liquids of all kinds under pressure, more particularly beverages
The most important example is given by tapping beer from the barrel. According to the usual method, the outflow of the beer through the pipes is ensured by pressurizing the keg.
The pressurized gas, generally formed by carbonic anhydride, is admitted directly, i.e. in direct contact with the beer, into the kegs.
As is well known, this direct contact results in numerous difficulties. Moreover, this method is useless in practice for dispensing other drinks, such as milk, chocolate milk, coffee, soup, etc.
However, in accordance with the current economic development, it is more and more important that liquids of all kinds can be tapped, especially in automatic coin-insert tapping machines.
Devices have already been proposed in which it is possible to avoid direct contact between the beer and the pressure gas, in particular by making use of a rigid-walled barrel, keg or keg, within which an elastic inner wall is arranged, which, as it were, forms a bag or bellows inflated by insertion of the beer, and exerts a direct pressure on the beer through its elasticity. In this method it is obligatory to keep the elastic bag permanently in tension, which has an adverse effect on its retention. In addition, the highly tensioned elastic wall is relatively permeable and in any case it is considerably weakened, so that said permeability increases rapidly.
Finally, it is also easy to see that the pressure exerted by a fleece of elastic material thus stretched during the emptying of the vessel is highly variable, which pressure decreases gradually as the content decreases, so that it is difficult or it is even impossible to empty the vessel completely. In addition, such a permanent fluid-acting pressure can adversely affect certain fluids.
The object of the present invention is to provide a new method in which it is possible in a very simple manner to retain the advantages of the known methods, while at the same time systematically eliminating the above-mentioned drawbacks.
In accordance with this method, the liquids are maintained, at least approximately, at atmospheric pressure and are kept away from contact, either with a pressurized gas or with the air present in the vessel, while nevertheless being tapped under pressure with equal ease. if a neutral pressure gas is used.
The method according to the invention consists essentially in introducing the liquid to be tapped at a later time into an elastic bag or bellows arranged within a rigid-walled chamber and at the appropriate time. a pressure medium is introduced between said elastic wall and said rigid chamber wall.
The tapping of the liquid enclosed in the elastic envelope thus takes place under pressure, which is exerted on the said elastic wall from the outside by the pressure medium. The more liquid is drawn off, the more the elastic wall contracts under the influence of the relative underpressure occurring within it, the space bounded by this wall, however, always being practically completely filled with liquid, the latter of which consequently remains free from any damage. contact with the outside atmosphere.
This method makes it possible to achieve exploitation with extremely simple means, since this only requires the use of completely closed barrels, kegs or similar vessels, in which a circumference is given.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to provide a sleeve of suitable elastic material, to connect said sleeve to a discharge pipe that runs to the tapping device, and to provide the rigid outer wall with an inlet opening through which a suitable pressure medium, for example water, can be supplied.
This supply opening for the pressure medium can either be left open permanently so that the liquids to be tapped remain constantly under pressure or a double tap can be used, which allows both the admission of pressure medium within the rigid chamber wall and the dispensing of the beverage in such a way. controls that the simultaneity of these controls is ensured. A single source of pressure medium is of course sufficient to control an indefinite number of vessels arranged according to the method of the invention.
The beverage can also be tapped via a dosing device, the latter, if desired, which can be provided with a heating or a cooling device, in order to be able to dispense either hot or cold drinks in measured quantities.
The kegs and barrels can have all kinds of different shapes and sizes, while the devices for introducing a pressure medium between the rigid and the elastic walls can also be designed in all kinds of different ways.
For the sole purpose of better understanding the features of the method and the devices according to the invention, and thus without any limitation of the inventive idea, some embodiments will be described in more detail in the following with reference to the attached drawings, in which: figure 1 represents the method according to the invention in as concise a form as possible; figure 2 schematically represents an installation for tapping drinks; figure 3 represents a specific device of the tap, in radial section, on a larger scale; figure 4 schematically represents an embodiment variant in concise form; Figure 5 is a brief schematic representation of a metered amount tapping device.
As shown in its most concise form in Figure 1, the method according to the invention consists in that an elastic wall 1 is arranged in a rigid-walled casing 2, and that a pressure means is introduced between these two walls 1-2. For the purpose of draining, the elastic casing 1 is connected to a discharge line 3, while the rigid casing 2 is provided with a supply 4 of the pressure medium. The latter acts uniformly throughout the space, which is delimited from the inside by the elastic envelope 1 and from the outside by the rigid envelope ¯2. The elastic casing 1 transfers the pressure to the liquid L, which is thus forced to flow out through the conduit 3.
Either individual shut-off or control devices can be connected to the lines 3-4, or these lines can be controlled synchronously by a single device.
As shown schematically in figure 2, the rigid outer casing 2 can be formed by a wooden or metal vessel, inside which the elastic casing 1 is arranged. The latter has an opening 5 where a spigot 6 is attached, which ends in a discharge pipe 7, which can be controlled by a tap, for example as shown at 8. A flexible or rigid pipe 2 is connected to the discharge pipe, which pipe leads to the tap 10.
The vessel 2, on the other hand, is provided with a pipe 11 controlled by a valve 12, which, by means of a flexible or rigid conduit 13, for example a conduit through a flexible rigid conduit, for example on a guide.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
thing for pressurized water can be connected. The water pressure penetrates between
EMI3.1
the flexible and rigid walls, 1 and 2 respectively, and bi-opening of the tap 10, the liquid contained within the flexible casing 1 can thus be dispensed.
It may be useful for a certain amount of air to be included in the dispensed drink. To this end, a special extension piece 14 can be attached to the actual tap 10, as is schematically shown in Figure 3, which extension piece 14 has laterally arranged channels 15 through which air is sucked in during the outflow of the liquid. The same effect can of course also be achieved with all kinds of other means.
In accordance with the invention, use can also be made of barrels of a completely different nature than casks or barrels. For example, as schematically shown in Figure 4, use can be made of a rigid-walled vessel 16, for example in the form of a bucket, can or similar vessel, with a watertight sealing lid 17 fixed thereon by means of a sealing joint 18, the closure of which is ensured, for example, by the pressing elements .12,
Inside this vessel is provided an elastic bag 20, which is
EMI3.2
connected to a drain 8: 1! 1; & pipe 21, which sewn tap 22 runs.
The invention also makes it possible in a rational manner to achieve a dispensing of soft or cooled drinks, as well as dispensing
EMI3.3
beverages in predetermined quantities. To measure the quantities to be tapped, one only needs between the typical vessel, which the. The main object of the invention is, and the faucet, to switch on an intermediate vessel, the content of which is equal to the amount to be tapped.
Two taps or shut-off valves are fitted in front and behind this intermediate vessel. It thus becomes possible to fill this intermediate vessel completely in order to fill it

then to be deflated, after it has been disconnected from the main rese3-voir. These different operating operations can be carried out with the help of separate taps or shut-off valves, or preferably with the aid of one combined tap or shut-off valve, which has different characteristic positions.

which consecutively correspond to:
closure of the draw-off tap and the drain tap, of the dosing vessel, closing of the supply tap of the dosing vessel as well as switching on the heating or cooling device, opening the drain tap and the draw-off tap, keeping the supply tap closed, and closing the drain tap and draw-off tap as well as opening of the supply tap.
It is of course also possible to use other program divisions. which will mainly depend on the properties of the heating res-

respective refrigeration device, which may be arranged for permanent operation or for controlled intermittent operation.
Such a device is shown schematically in very brief form in figure 5, wherein the valve 24 controlled by a tap or valve

tapping line 23 ends in a dosing vessel 25, from where another line 26 runs to the tapping cock 27.
The intermediate vessel 35 35 used for metering is surrounded by the heating or cooling device schematically shown as spiral line 28.
If the tapping line 26 should become too long, a further discharge tap can be arranged at the outlet of the dosing vessel 25.
As can be seen, it is possible to arrange the installations in which the method according to the invention is applied in many, very different ways, in order to arrive in a simple and very effective manner devices for tapping all possible types of liquids, respectively drinks. It will of course be necessary to make an appropriate choice in each individual case for the pipes, taps, heating or drainage.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
cooling means as well as for the control devices of the installation, which choice, however, is entirely within the reach of any skilled person who has taken note of the essential data of the method and device according to the present invention.
In this connection it is clear that also the means by which the space understood between the rigid outer wall and the elastic inner wall is pressurized can be achieved in many different ways.
Any suitable pressure means can be used for this purpose. In an advantageous embodiment, this pressure is generated by supplying water under pressure.
This water may come from a simple connection to a pressurized water distribution line. It is also possible to connect said space, via a suitable pipe, with a water reservoir, which is placed at a certain level determined by the required pressure. In general, the pressure agent acts directly on the elastic wall. it is also possible to provide in the vessel with rigid wall one or more likewise rigid movable walls which act on the bag or bellows of elastic material.
The process of the invention is in some sense independent of the pressurizing and other means used for pressurizing, however, the use of pressurized water is preferred as the most economical solution.
