<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The main patent relates to a warning device for motor vehicles, acting under the effect of the encounter of a foreign body, for example another vehicle, which device comprises a shock receiving frame, protruding from a bumper. of the vehicle and attached to it through the intervention of an elastically deformable support, for example a rubber block or the like, and a contactor member fixed relative to the bumper and intended to cooperate with an element integral with said frame, said contactor member and / or said element, between which there is normally a small interval, being connected to the control circuit of a signal, preferably the vehicle horn, so that, as soon as said frame moves under the effect of an impact, said element is brought into contact with said contactor member,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
thus causing the actuation of said aiertisseur signal.
The present improvement relates to modifications and improvements made to a device of this type, with the aim of making its construction and its assembly particularly simple and effective and of concealing from view the fastening elements which could be harmful to aesthetics.
For this purpose, the frame mounted in front of the bumper is constituted by a practically rigid tube, in the ends of which are wedged blocks of rubber or the like, each traversed axially by a rod penetrating into the tube, of so that its end normally remains at a small distance from the internal wall thereof, the other end of the rod being fixed to the vehicle, preferably to the rear face of the bumper, the arrangement being such that the contact of at least one of said rods with the internal wall of the tube causes the warning signal to activate *
Each rod is preferably fixed to the bumper by the intervention of elastic means more resistant than said rubber blocks, so as to be able to be elastically deformed under the effect of an impact which has, beforehand,
caused the said rods to come into contact with the frame, this arrangement in particular avoiding deterioration of the frame under the action of relatively strong impacts.
Other features and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description of an exemplary embodiment which will be given below with reference to the appended schematic drawing, @ in which: @
Fig. 1 is a front view of a device according to the invention, with its assembly diagram;
Figure 2 is a side view, on a larger scale, and partially in section, of the device attached to a bumper, and

according to FIG. 2.
In these drawings, 1 designates the shock-receiving frame which is constituted by a tube, preferably metallic, and which can have various shapes, of which that of an inverted U is particularly simple and rational. The tube could be provided with an electrically non-conductive outer coating.
A block 2 of rubber or the like is wedged in each end of the tube 1 and is crossed by a metal rod 3 which penetrates a certain distance into the tube, while its other end is attached to the vehicle. The end housed in the tube is normally a short distance from the internal wall thereof.
In the example illustrated in FIG. 1, one of the rods 3, in this case the one on the left, is connected to the ground of the vehicle, while the one on the right is fixed to the ground with the interposition of an insulator 4, the latter rod being connected to the circuit control of the warning signal 5. It is therefore understood that the latter will be started as soon as, under the effect of a shock, the tube 1 will be brought into contact with the ends of the rods 3, this contact being made in practice simultaneously with both rods. As a variant, the tube could be permanently connected to the mass and possibly fitted the two rods like the one on the right in FIG. 1. Anyway, thanks to the elasticity of the blocks 2, the horn circuit will be automatically cut after the impact.
In the realization according to Fige. 2-3e the rods are fixed to the bumper 6, in particular by using for each of them the fastening bolt 7 of a spur 8. An angle-9 is fixed to this bolt by a nut 10 and to this A bracket 11 is fixed which is shaped so as to descend to below the bumper. Each rod 3 is fixed, for example welded, to the other end of a fitting 11. Turn a rod

3 which must be isolated from the ground, the link 3, 11, 9 will obviously be isolated in some suitable way from the bumper. This rod will be connected to the horn circuit. 5.
Preferably, said connection to the vehicle will comprise resilient means that are more resistant than the blocks 2, so that, if the thrust continues after having established contact 1, 3, the entire device according to the invention may undergo a certain deformation. elastic, without risk of deterioration. These elastic means are advantageously constituted by a single or multiple loop 12 of the rods 3, preferably located near the plane of the tube, said rods then being themselves practically rigid, like the fittings 11, which ensures suitable elasticity. of the assembly without risking significant vertical displacements of the horizontal part of the tube 1, which could give rise to dangerous clashes with the foreign vehicle.
