Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Figure 1 montre une feuille de plastique disposée au-dessus d'un moule portant une bande de sertissage;

1 - la feuille de plastique telle que F est maintenue au-dessus du moule A serrée dans un cadre;
2 - on exerce sur elle une action chauffante, de sorte que sous l'action de la chaleur la feuille se tend et s'étire sous son propre poids;

   <Desc / Clms Page number 1>

   The invention relates to a new process for the manufacture of all products made of plastic material, whether for example advertising plates, sanitary ware or components for the construction of motor vehicles.

   The main object of this process is to increase the resistance of the product targeted by a crimping carried out automatically in a very rapid and very economical manner. This result is essentially obtained, according to the present invention, by placing easily detachably on the mold, for example in carefully chosen undercuts, a frame made of suitable material, metal, wood, plastic material, etc., intended to be crimped automatically in the product to be manufactured during the molding operation.

   By way of example only, the invention is applied, in the accompanying drawing, to the manufacture of a street sign plate. In this drawing:
Figure 1 shows a plastic sheet disposed above a mold carrying a crimping strip;
Figure 2 shows the same sheet after heating, and
Figure 3 shows the product removed from the mold after vacuum treatment.

   For the molding of plastic surfaces, the procedure is generally as follows:
1 - the plastic sheet such as F is held above the mold A clamped in a frame;
2 - a heating action is exerted on it, so that under the action of heat the sheet stretches and stretches under its own weight;
3 - under the action of an external force, in this case a vacuum, transmitted through appropriate perforations B made in the mold A, the plastic sheet F follows the shapes of the latter.

   In the present case, in accordance with the invention, a very slight rim C is provided in the stripped part of the mold A against which a metal frame D is pressed, which thus rests on the mold. It should be noted that the taper exhibited by the mold may be sufficient in many cases to support the reinforcement D. This could be made of any material of sufficient strength depending on the application envisaged: wood and even plastic.

   Under the effect of the vacuum created through the orifices B of the mold, the plastic sheet F exactly matches the outer contour of the mold and thus includes the frame D, which then automatically forms one body with it.

   The crimps produced can be single or multiple, they can cover all the faces of the section, less obviously the one in contact with the mold.

   The invention has just been explained in the simplest form of embodiment, but as has been said this crimping method can have very many industrial applications. On the other hand, the molding itself can be carried out in different ways, in particular by replacing the operation with vacuum by pressure or blowing.
