<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
dans son prolongement (fig. 2).

'Injection molding of plastics is. done by introducing the plasticized material through a narrow orifice in the wall of the. mold. sometimes a plate called "carrot" is pressed between the mold and the injection nozzle and is pierced so as to allow the passage of the material of the injection nozzle into the mold, After injection, solidified material remains in the passage formed through the core plate and the mold wall, constituting what is called the "core" adhering to the molded object. It must be detached from it and eliminated.
The present invention relates to improvements in injection molding machines which allow
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
automatically and without mechanical intervention, the separation and expulsion of the core, on the machine even before demoulding, in an extremely simple and efficient way.
According to the invention, this double operation is carried out pneumatically, either by blowing or by suction.
In a first embodiment of the invention, the mold element through which the injection is made and the core plate interposed between the latter and the injection nozzle are shaped and assembled so as to maintain one an cylinder and the other a piston fitted therein and which, in the injection position, is pressed against the bottom of the cylinder; the passage of the plasticized material through these two elements is given a section decreasing in the direction of the mold and the core plate is provided with a passage orifice, opening into the bottom of the cylinder, through which we will introduce pressurized air.
The air pressure moving the two elements apart, the carrot, whose head is first retained, by its shape, in the carrot plate, is torn from the molded object, retained in the mold still closed, then blown out of the carrot plate by the air pressure prevailing in the cylinder.
In another embodiment of the invention, the carrot head is capped flush with the carrot plate, with a cap in which an air depression is created which sucks the carrot, if the depression is not sufficient to stop it. dear this one. this separation is carried out beforehand by separating the carrot plate somewhat from the mold.
By way of example, a device is described below for the application of the process for extracting the core by compressed air. It is illustrated by the accompanying drawing in which Figures 1 and 2 show the device respectively before and after extraction.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In the example shown, the molded object is referenced 1 and the two parts of the mold which cooperate in its formation are designated by 2 and 3.
The material has been injected through the nozzle of an injection device (not shown), applied, in injection position, to the upper part of a core plate 4. The latter is pierced with a frustoconical hole 5, the axis of which coincides with that of another conical hole 6, of smaller section, drilled through the element 3 of the mold.
According to the invention, the sprue plate 4 forms a cylinder for a piston constituted by the mold element 3. They can couli-sser into each other along the cylindrical surface 7. The bottom of the cylinder is pierced with an orifice 8 through which compressed air is admitted. The pressure of this air applies the mold element 3 against the mold insulation and lifts the plate 4 thus detaching the core from the mold and, acting under the head 9 of the core, it will expel it * 2).
it will be noted that the expulsion of the core before the separation of the mold elements 2 and: 3 admits air through the hole 6 on the upper surface of the molded object.
This has the advantage of avoiding the suction cup effect during the subsequent separation of the mold elements 2 and 5 and of keeping the molded part on the mold element 2.
To facilitate the separation of the two parts 3 and
4 provision is made to open the orifice 8 into an annular chamber 10 formed between them, around the core. to avoid the complete separation of the two parts 3 and 4, the plate 4 has been provided with a stop member 11 which limits their spacing and prevents the piston from leaving the cylinder.
At the position of the mold at which the carrot is ejected, a flexible pipe has been placed, which leads it to a receptacle, which may be the hopper containing @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
raw materials. Thus, without handling, the waste formed by the carrots is returned to the manufacturing cycle. It is obvious that the piston could be formed on the sprue plate and the cylinder on the mold member 3.
It should also be understood that the expulsion of the core can be effected at any time after molding, and, if desired, after the elements 3 and 4 have been integrally separated from the element 2 of the mold.
The object 1 being retained by adhesion on the mold part 2, the sectioning of the core at 15 will have been, in this case, carried out mechanically.
The invention also relates, in combination with the device which has just been described, to the use of an automatic valve for the introduction of compressed air at the desired moment for the expulsion of the core.
By way of nonlimiting example, the one shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is described below.
The valve consists of a body 14 in which is hollowed out a cylindrical cavity 15 in which a piston 16 is movable, which, at rest, is pushed by a spring 17 against a stop 18. A nozzle 19 screwed onto the body 14 serves as a stop on the spring 17. In the body 14 are pierced two orifices 20, 21, which open into the cylinder 15. These two orifices are connected by a U-shaped tube, 22, to a pipe 23. The piston 16 has a circular groove 24 which , - in the rest position, (Figure 1), -is above the orifice 21. It communicates with a bore 25 of the piston.
At the right moment for the expulsion of the core, compressed air is admitted into the duct 23 which, entering through the orifice 20, pushes the piston 16 downwards until it contacts the core plate 4 At this moment, the groove 24 is presented opposite the orifice 17 and the compressed air is admitted into the borehole 25 and into the orifice 8 which is located.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
in its extension (fig. 2). The ejection of the sprue is then carried out as has been said and as shown in FIG. 2. The lifting plate 4 raises the piston 16 thanks to the flexibility of the spring 17 given that the surface of the section of the. cylinder 7 is larger than that of piston 16. this movement can be used to shut off the compressed air supply.
The core can be led through the suitably curved tube 12 to the raw material hopper and thus reintroduced into the manufacturing cycle. As soon as the air pressure ceases, the device returns to its original state, the piston 16 being returned to the high position by the spring 17.
The invention applies particularly well to rotary machines with multiple molds in which different stations are assigned to the successive operations of injection, ejection of the core and demolding, but it is not limited. in this case.
In another embodiment of the invention (not shown), a cap covering the carrot head is applied to the core plate 4 and a vacuum is created in this cap, through an orifice in which the core 'is aspirated. This operation is easily done after having mechanically separated the part from the part 3 and thus torn the core from the molded object 1 by breaking the point 13.
