<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Toujours selon ledit mode de réalisation général le plus favorable, le dispositif pour régler le taux de fléchissement élastique comporte un système à cames rotatives monté à rota- tion sur une pièce qui représente ledit dispositif pour assu- jetter le socle audit support fixe, ou sur une pièce qui oc- cupe une position fixt;

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

The present invention relates to mounts for seats and it is an object to establish a system for mounting a sirge resiliently on a support, such that the taug of elastic flexion or contraction of the seat can be changed at will by a simple displacement of 'an adjustment organ which is constantly within reach of the person who occupies the seat.

According to the invention, there is provided a seat frame comprising: a base for the seat, this base being able to contract elastically ssus the load carried by the seat, in a direction parallel to that of the height of the base; a device for fixing a seat to this base; a device for securing the base to a fixed support (for example the floor of a motor vehicle); and a device for adjusting the rate of elastic contraction of the base per unit load carried by the seat and acting on this base, the device last mentioned being provided with an operating element which is specific to it and which occupies a external position in relation to the frame.
In accordance with a general and particularly favorable embodiment of the invention, the construction is established such that the pedestal comprises: an upper end element; a lower extreme element; and an intermediate elastic system arranged so as to transmit the thrusts to the two end elements, one end of the intermediate elastic element being fixed with respect to one of the end elements, while its other end is in operative connection with the end element. elastic deflection rate adjustment system. The end element, to which the first mentioned end of the elastic intermediate system is attached, is preferably the upper end element.
Still according to said most favorable general embodiment, the device for adjusting the elastic deflection rate comprises a rotary cam system rotatably mounted on a part which represents said device for securing the base to said fixed support, or on a part which occupies a fixed position;

According to one of the characteristics of the invention, the total height of the frame is adjustable independently of variations in this height due to the elastic sag of the base under the load resting on the seat.
According to another characteristic of the invention, it is possible to adopt a construction where the base comprises two parts, namely an upper part which carries the seat fixing members and a lower part which carries the members supporting this base, said base. upper part being mounted to rotate, relative to the lower part, about an axis parallel to the height direction of the base, so that the seat, once mounted on the base, can rotate, around said axis, by relative to the lower part of said base and, therefore, relative to the fixed surface to which the base is subject when the frame is in use, a device preferably being provided for the removable locking of the upper part of the base with respect to the lower part of it,
so as to prevent this upper part from effecting said rotation relative to said lower part.

The present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show the most favorable general form of the present invention, described above.
In these drawings:

The tubular element 1 is mounted on a base 4, by which the plinth can be secured to a fixed support, for example the floor of a motor vehicle.
The base 4 has the hollow shape shown in the drawings, the element 1 being fixed to this base by welding to an annular rim 5 which rises from the upper wall 6 of this base.
The upper end of the tubular member 3 supports a cup-shaped member 7 welded to the member 3 along an annular flange 8 which runs downward from the bottom wall 9 of this cup-shaped member. bowl..
The cup 7 is formed so as to have a flange 10 around its upper edge, to which flange are attached two slide systems, generally designated by A and B and through which the seat bench (not shown) is mounted. on element 7 so as to be able to slide relative to the latter in the direction of the depth of the seat, that is to say, in the rear-to-front direction thereof.
Slide systems A and B do not form part of the invention in themselves. It should be noted that they each comprise a fixed rail 11 bolted to the flange 10 as well as a drawer or carriage 12 which can move freely by sliding relative to the rail. <Desc / Clms Page number 6>
generally designated by C in FIG. 1, is constituted, in the particular embodiment of the invention shown here, by a spring shock absorber of a known type, which consists of a telescopic casing established in two parts 14, 15 and enclosing a compression spring 16 which elastically urges parts 14 and 15 of the casing in opposite directions.
The upper end of the shock absorber is fixed to the tubular element 2 of the base, this end being bolted to a lug 17, which in turn is bolted to a bracket 18, itself welded, along its legs. flanges 19, at the wall of the element 2. Said upper end of the shock absorber is bolted to the bracket 17 by means of a bolt 20, the shank of which extends through a ring 21 which forms part from the upper end of the shock absorber.
The lower end 14 of the shock absorber casing carries a cylindrical element 22 which occupies a fixed position relative to said lower part. Element 22, which is coaxial with the damper, is secured to said lower part 14 by means of fixing screws 23, while lower end face 24 of element 22 constitutes a cam track. annular (feeler) for a pair of rotary cams 25, 26, the common shaft 27 of which is rigidly integral with a rotation handle 28, the rod of which passes through a hole 29 made in the inclined side wall 30 of the base 4 of the base, the arrangement being such that by turning the handle an angular displacement of the cams is produced, which determines an upward movement of the cylindrical element 22 and, consequently,
of the lower part 14 of the casing of the damper, this against the reaction of the upper part of the base, transmitted by means of the spring 16 of the damper. We thus obtain a construction
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
in which the rate of contraction of the plinth per unit seat load acting on it can be adjusted at will by simply rotating the handle 29 by a greater or lesser amount around the axis of the shaft 27 of the cams . The extent to which the rate of elastic contraction is adjustable obviously depends on the angle of rotation of the handle 28.
The base 4 of the base will advantageously be provided with a graduated plate 31 provided with marks called to indicate the positions of the handle 28 which correspond respectively to a series of measurements, determined in advance, of the adjustment of the rate of contraction of the base. It emerges from the above that the rotary cams 25, 26 form, together with the shaft 27, a "cam system", as has been said above.
This system is rotatably mounted in the lateral wings 32, 33 of a support 34 fixed by means of bolts 35 to the underside of the upper wall 6 of the base 4 of the plinth.
Under the effect of the weight of the person using the seat, the shock absorber C compresses against the reaction of the cam system 25, 26, 27, so that the tubular element 2 of the base moves towards the bottom relative to the tubular element 1, while the tubular element 3 moves integrally with the element 2. The latter element is guided during this movement by a rod 36 which acts in a slot 37 '' this rod being supported by the element 2 while the slot 37 is formed in the element 1. The rod 36 is supported on the element 2 by means of a bracket 38 fixed to the latter element, this rod being elastically solicited by a spring 39, in the direction of its active position in the slot 37.
The outer end of the rod 36 carries a pivot 40, the two ends of which are
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
engaged in forks 41, 42 integral with the vertical arm 43 of an angled lever pedal 44 tiltably mounted on a support 45 fixed to the tubular element 2. The arrangement is such that by lowering the pedal 44 against of the thrust of the spring 39, as well as against the action of a second spring 46, the force of which is added to that of the spring 39, the rod 36 is withdrawn from its working position in the slot 37, so that the upper part of the plinth can now be rotated relative to the part. lower of the latter, around the axis of this base, in a manner and for a purpose which have been explained above.
The pedal 44 is located at the front of the base, so that it is easily accessible at the foot of the user of the seat.
After having maneuvered the pedal and having executed a revolution together with the seat and the upper part of the frame, the user releases the pedal, allowing it to return automatically, together with the rod 36 and under the joint pressure of the springs 39 and 46, until the various members return to their rest position, which occurs as soon as the rod 36 again reaches a position in which it coincides with the slot 37, that is to say, when the upper part of the frame returns to the normal position relative to the lower part of the latter.
During the rotary movement of the upper part of the frame, the annular cam track 24, provided on the cylindrical element 22, slides on the cams 25,26, this sliding being made possible by the fact that this cam path is coaxial relative to the base, the actions described above occurring whatever the angular position of the cams and, consequently, that of the operating handle 28 which is associated with them.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
As indicated above, the tubular element 3 of the plinth normally moves integrally with the tubular element 2 while the latter telescopes up and down relative to the tubular element. lower 1, when the shock absorber C comes into play It has further been noted that the element 3 is capable of sliding relative to the element 2 in order to allow the adjustment of the overall height of the frame. However, element 3 is normally immobilized with respect to element 2 and is held in this relative position by a rod 47 which penetrates into one or other of the holes forming part of the series 48, 49, 50 and provided in the wall of element 3.
The arrangement is as far as this rod '; can engage in any of these holes at will, depending on the desired overall height setting. This rod is normally maintained in its position of engagement in a hole 48, 49 or 50 by means of a compression spring 51 interposed between a transverse pin 52, supported by the rod 47, and the rear end of a support 53 that the rod 47 passes through to be articulated to the plunging arm 54 of an elbow lever 55 pivotally mounted on the element 7 in the form of a cup, which is part of the whole of the base, by means of a yoke 56 fixed to the element 7: The rod 47 is articulated to the arm 53 by means of a pin 57 carried by the rod 47 and acting in forks 58, 59, integral with the arm 54.
The horizontal arm of the lever 55 carries a handle 60 by virtue of which this lever is easily accessible for its manipulation by the user of the seat. To the lever 55 is assigned a second spring 61 which acts to reinforce the action of the spring, 51 aiming to return the rod 47 and the lever to the rest position, the rod 47 being thereby engaged in the chosen orifice. , that is, 48,49 or 50.

The tubular element 3, and the members which move integrally with it are guided, during the movement of the latter upwards and downwards, by a rod 62 supported on said element 3 and moving in a slot 63 of element 2. In this way, the rod 47 is guided, during its upward and downward movement, with a view to occupying the active position, in which this rod coincides with the chosen hole, either 48, 49 or 50.
According to a possible variant, shown in Fig. 4 of the accompanying drawings, the upper part of the seat frame according to the present invention can be provided non-rotating with respect to the lower part of this frame, in which case the elements constituted by the rod 36, the pedal 44 and the related elements 38, 39, 40, 43, 45 and 46 can be replaced by a rod 64 similar to the rod 62 mentioned above, the rod being in this case fixed relative to the tubular member 2, the inner end of the rod moving through slot 37 as member 2 moves up and down during its telescoping movement relative to tubular member 1.
It emerges from the above that the present invention makes it possible to establish a mounting system for. seats, with the help of which the user can adjust his seat in such a way as to bring it closer or further away from the pedals of the vehicle; raise or lower the seat; and, moreover, modifying at will the extent to which the seat approaches and elastically deviates from the floor of the vehicle, the system for modifying the rate of elastic deflection of the seat being provided with an actuator of its own and which occupies an external position relative to the frame, so as to be easily accessible to the user of the seat.
