<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The present invention relates to a new instantaneous electric water heater with preheating, more particularly intended to be mounted on a tap or a pipe, and having the advantage of ensuring a distribution of hot water as soon as said tap is opened, without having to wait a certain time for the electrical resistance, energized when the tap is opened, to heat the cold water arriving at the appliance.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This new water heater is particularly simple and robust and the equipment it contains ensures high operating safety.
It is essentially characterized by the fact that it comprises a reheating tank, means for mechanically connecting this tank to a tap or pipe, at least two electrical elements or resistors inserted into said tank, thermostatic control means. first resistor energized ,. said preheating, directly connected to the mains, and thermostatic control means for switching on the second resistance, mounted in series with a switch controlled hydraulically or mechanically from the valve opening operation. '
In the embodiment shown in.
attached drawing, we see at 1 the cylindrical tank of the water heater, in the axis of which plunges the cold water inlet tube 2, the control of which is ensured by action on the valve 3. At 4 is provided a terminal board of sockets connected to the mains. Inside and at the lower part of the tank is arranged the preheating resistor 5, the terminals 5a and 5b of which protrude in a sealed manner under the lower plane of the tank. There is shown at 6 a bimetallic thermostatic element connected in series with resistor 5 to terminals 4. The thermal conductivity of the tank 1 is largely sufficient for one. can consider that 1 * element 6 is directly subjected to the influence of the temperature of the water in the tank.
At the top of the tank is provided the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
actual heating resistor 7, the terminals 7a and 7b of which protrude in such a way and reed from the upper part of the tank. We see in 6 the thermostatic element .. subjected to the influence of the water temperature had level. resistance 7
We notice in 9 along the. tube 2 a switch operating under the effect of hydraulic pressure by pressing in a pellet 10
closing a contact when valve 3 is opened. Resistor 7, thermostat 8 and 9 are mounted in series and connected to the mains on the terminal board
Finally, at the top of the tank, there is a hot water discharge pipe 11. The water admitted through tap 5 into pipe 25 therefore has the path indicated by the arrows, first descending to the bottom. tube 2, at the preheating resistor and leaving through the upper part of the tank at. level of the heating resistor itself.
The operation of the new water heater which has just been described is as follows:
If it is assumed that the tank has been emptied beforehand, and or.'after opening the tap 3, the water reaches the bottom of the tank at a temperature of about 10, the thermostat 6 is; in a position such that the resistor 5 is live, thanks to the connection of the plate 4 to the sector by means of a switch not shown

(for example 65 depending on the setting of thermostat 6.
Once this temperature has been reached, thermostat 6 cuts off the power supply to resistor 5, and restores it subsequently when the temperature has fallen to the minimum setting level.
When it is desired to supply water. instant hot, open tap 3 and the water., admitted into the tank, flush through pipe 11 the water previously heated to the maximum temperature of the thermostat setting
6. The flow rate of the conduit 11 being in any case significantly lower than that allowed by the valve 3, a hydraulic overpressure is established in the tube 2 having the effect of pushing in the pellet 10 and closing the contactor 9.
The thermostat 8 being in the closed position of the electrical circuit, the resistance 7 is energized and therefore allows the heating of the circulating water to a temperature above the maximum setting temperature of the thermostat 6, because the heat released by resistance 7 is greater than that released by resistance 5.
This temperature can reach for example 95. Beyond this limit, thermostat 8 would cut off the power supply to resistance 7. If the supply of cold water causes the temperature of the water in the. 'To drop to a level lower than the maximum temperature setting of the thermostat 6 the two resistors 5 and 7 are ales in parallel on the seateur to obtain a faster heating, the resistance 5 being eliminated only when the temperature again exceeds said limit.
Cn understands that the water heater, which has just been written, has advantages of saving consumption
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
because the preheating resistor 5 is relatively low, and is only periodically in use.
It also has the advantage, by virtue of said preheating resistance, of ensuring a permanent distribution of hot water even at the Lise in service.
