<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
collectrice &.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

suction devices often cooperating with these cleaning members to remove the fibrous material detached by the latter.
An embodiment which has been particularly popular in recent times produces pneumatic suction and involves the use of a rotating cleaning cylinder mounted after the cylinder to be cleaned in the direction of rotation thereof.
However, it has now been found, following new observations, that a combined mechanical-pneumatic cleaning device comprising, for example, a cleaning plate acting as a scraping element for the fibers associated with the 'cylinder' to be cleaned and a suction channel n It is only really useful and rational when this suction channel is placed behind the cleaning plate in the direction of rotation of the cylinder.
Another important problem is the constitution and arrangement of suitable scraper members which remove the fibrous material from the rolls either directly or through cleaning rolls. Extensive testing. have in fact shown that in many cases these scrapers, which must be made of flexible material, no longer apply or only apply with insufficient pressure against the rotating members of the cleaning machine already after a short operating time, so that the cleaning action is greatly reduced to say the least.
When adjusting the take-up as much as such an adjustment is provided, there is consequently the tendency to apply the scraper members with too much pressure, which leads, on the one hand, to excessive braking of the cylinders and, on the other hand, to the wear of the scraper members.
The present invention aims to create a cleaning device avoiding these drawbacks. This device is characterized!, 'It that at least part of the cleaning organs is

designated by 1 and the larger by 2. The two rolls are supported in a manner not shown in detail in the end plates 3 of a machine frame (not shown), which also receive the ends of two conveyor rolls 4 and 5 supported so as to be able to rotate one above the other and parallel to the delivery cylinders.
Cylinders 4 and 5 carry an endless cleaning belt 6 extending across the entire width of cylinders 1 and 2 and applying under low pressure against cylinders 1 and 2. As cylinders 1 and 2 rotate, both in clockwise, the cleaning band -.3 is driven in an anti-clockwise direction, the separated fibers of the wick adhering to the cylinders being removed by the cleaning band. The latter cooperates with a lip-shaped scraper member acting against its underside and which is fixed to one of the longitudinal edges of a trough-shaped collecting grid 8. The latter extends between the end plates 3 of the machine frame and is carried by these plates.
During the movement of the cleaning belt 6, the fibers received by the latter reach against the scraper member 7, so that they are entrained between the latter and the conveyor belt and are deposited in the form of a ball behind the member. scraper on the collecting grid 8. The latter carries, on its longitudinal side opposite to the scraper member 7, another scraper member 9, representing a constitution in the form of a flexible tube and cooperating with the cylinder 2. The scraper member can be closed at both ends and it may contain air at atmospheric pressure or at a slightly higher pressure.
During the rotation of the cylinder ;;: ';, the waste fibers which adhere to it reach the scraper member., They are detached from the cylinder by the latter in a manner similar to what is done by the scraper member 7 and they are deposited on the grid

collector &. An air duct 10 is connected above carrying the fibers of the collector grid and to the suction side of a blower, not shown. Therefore, in the operation of the blower, the fibers deposited on the blower. collecting grid 8 are evacuated through the air duct 10, a filter or separator (not shown)
being connected to the blower to collect the sucked fibers and make them available for a new use.
Since the collector grid forms, together with the scrapers 7 and 9, the cleaning belt 6 and the end plates 3 of the frame a closed chamber 11 placed below the cylinder 2, to which the air duct 10 is connected, a vacuum is generated in this chamber during the operation of the blower.-On the other hand, the atmospheric pressure acts on the scrapers 7 and &, so that these two members are pressed against the cleaning belt 6 and cylinder 2 as a result of this pressure difference. We can vary their effectiveness by varying this depression.
- If we have shown in fig. 1 the cleaning tape 6 as cooperating both with the cylinder 1 and also with the cylinder 2, it is in many cases sufficient to make the cleaning tape cooperate only with the cylinder 1, because the cylinder 2 is cleaned in a manner perfect by the scraper member 9 and the fibers detached from this cylinder can be very well picked up by the suction produced in the chamber 11. As already mentioned, it is extremely important that the suction of the detached fibers by the scraper member takes place behind it, considering the direction of rotation of the cylinder, because the fibers do not settle, as one might expect; in front, but behind this scraper organ.
In fig. ., instead of the cleaning belt G shown in FIG. 1, a cleaning cylinder 12 is provided which only cooperates with the cylinder 2. but which is otherwise the same.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
function as the cleaning band 6. In this case, the cylinder 1 is not cleaned, but there is, on the other hand, a double cleaning of the cylinder 2, namely, on the one hand, by the scraper member 9 and , on the other hand, by the cleaning cylinder 12 with which the scraper member 7 cooperates. It is important in this arrangement that the suction takes place for the two scraper members behind them, because, in the case of the scraper member 7, the direction of rotation of the cleaning cylinder. 12 is decisive for the deposition of the fibrous material.
Consequently, all the fibrous material detached from the cylinder 2 is deposited inside the chamber 11, i.e. on the collecting grid 8, and an accumulation in places which cannot be reached by the suction is. avoided.
Instead of making the cleaning cylinder 12 cooperate only with the cylinder 2, it would naturally be possible to associate it with both cylinder 1 and cylinder 2, then provide the collecting grid with a side wall at the end. upper of which there would be a scraper member corresponding to the scraper member 7 and cooperating with this cleaning cylinder déc-ale. In this case too, the scraped-off fibrous material would therefore be deposited in the collecting grid and evacuated by suction.
As shown in fig. 3, instead of a scraper member 9 in the form of a flexible pipe as in FIGS. 1 and 2, one could also use a scraper member 13, the constitution of which would correspond to the scraper members 7 of FIGS. i and 2.
The scraper member shown in FIG. 4, the construction of which is similar to a known cleaning plate, has a support 15 and a strip 16 of flexible porous material, for example of foam rubber, arranged on this support 16, The support 15 and the strip 16 are enveloped in 'a sheath 14 representing the cleaning cloth itself and applying in operation against the cylinder to be cleaned. The interior of the cleaning cloth, i.e. the chamber containing the strip 16
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
can, for example, communicate with the atmosphere through the end sides or through openings 17 drilled in the support 15 and in the cleaning cloth 14.
This cleaning member is therefore able, just like the other types of members of this kind shown, under the action of the vacuum generated by the suction, to vary its pressing action against the cylinder to be cleaned, by example cylinder 2, when used in place of the scraper member & figs. 1 and 2.
In the type shown in figs. 1 and 3, of cleaning devices, it is rational in many cases to connect the chamber 11 in appropriate places with. the atmosphere and this so as to generate inside this chamber, during the suction, a current of air which entrains the fibers' deposited on the collecting grid and brings them to the air duct 10. It is necessary in in this case, take care that the openings provided for the entry of the transport air into the chamber 11 are not required in an area in which they cause a draft of suction air exerted within the reach of the wick. passing between the cylinders, as this could damage and even tear the bankruptcy. On the other hand,
it is possible to arrange these openings in such a way that, retorting this will be described later, in the event of breakage of the wick which descends, this wick is seized and sucked in by the air current.
In the embodiments of Figs. 1 and 2, the conveying air openings are rationally provided in the collecting grid 8, for example in the form of perforations or orifices which are covered by fine mesh screens. As a result, on the one hand, the flying fibers which could possibly settle on the frame of the machine are sucked into the chamber and, on the other hand, it is possible that the air current ' run from weary up passing PU! ' these openings or perforations amens the flora scraped in a practically floating state in the duct u'air suction 10.
The embodiments described below relate to

spinning machines or spinning loom cylinders. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 5, there is disposed below a cylinder 18 a suction trough 19, extending over the entire width of this cylinder and the interior of which communicates by a suction air duct 20. with. the suction side of a blower. The suction trough carries a scraper member 21 in the form of a flexible tube extending along one of its longitudinal sides and corresponding to the scraper member 9 of FIGS. 1 and 2.
The scraper member 21 is applied against the cylinder 18 under a determined pressure and consequently scrapes during the rotation of this cylinder the fibrous material which adheres to it. A draft of suction air generated by the inlet of atmospheric air following arrow 22 into this suction trough is exerted therein.
This suction air stream captures the fiber forming behind the scraper member 21 in the direction of rotation of the cylinder '18 and discharged through the air duct 20. By suitably choosing the determining sections of the openings and the air pressure rate, it is also possible to generate inside the suction trough a depression through which the action of the scraper member 21 is the same as that of the scraper member ± of figs. and 2.
The embodiment shown in fig. 6 differs from that of fig. 5 in that there is provided next to the scraper member 21 a sealing member 23 also in the form of a flexible pipe, which runs along the other longitudinal side of the suction vessel 19 and which also applies against the cylinder. On the other hand, it is provided in the side wall of the suction trough. orifices 24 which allow the entry of air 03 transport into the interior of the suction trough 19.
The suction openings are arranged so that the current of air entering these openings as a result of the vacuum also act in the vicinity of the scraper member 31 and the rear edge, then evacuates the fibers which form there. , as indicated by the signs.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 7, the suction device serves two stretching cylinders and the scraper members associated therewith. The suction trough 25 is then disposed in the middle under the. two cylinders .'26 and 27, then carries the members in 'form of flexible pipe 28, 29 and 30.
While member 28 functions as a scraper and member 30 as a seal, member 29 serves as a seal for cylinder 26 and as a wiper for cylinder 27.
The operation is moreover the same as that of the embodiment of the pin 6. In this case too, transport air orifices 24 can be provided.
Figs. 8 and? show an embodiment in which the scraper members are similar to the members 7 of figs.l and 2, that is to say that they are also formed in the form of tongues or blades, The scraper members 32 extending the along both sides of a suction channel 31 have notches 33 distributed uniformly over their entire length to allow them to adapt to the constitution of the grooved cylinder 34, The distance between two notches corresponds to the length of the bar 36 or to that of the fluted sections 36.
Rather, the sections of the wiper members against the necklines 35 perform the function of sealing members preventing air from entering the interior of the suction channel 31. The suction channel has a name. - bre of suction openings for broken wicks corresponding to the number of corrugated sections 36 of the corrugated cylinder, these orifices allowing the evacuation of these broken wicks by the suction duct 38 connected to the channel 51 together with the fibrous material scraped, In time, the orifices 37 allow the entry of transport air to drive the scraped fibers.
A vacuum is again generated during operation inside the suction channel 31, which 1.:1. for efi'ect of pressing the scraper and sealing members 33 centered the cy-

An air duct 44, connected to the suction side of a not shown blower, communicates with the suction channel 43. The embodiment according to FIG. .lC. represents, in a manner similar to that of fig.2; the advantage that the cylinder 39 is cleaned in two places, namely on the one hand by the scraper member 41 and on the other hand by the cleaning cylinder 40.
The latter is cleaned on its own by the scraper member 42 and, in this case, the suction is placed behind the scraper organ considering the direction of rotation of the cleaning cylinder, so that the scraped fibers cannot. not deposit outside the suction channel -18 ... the rest, the operation of this construction is essentially the

toyeui 6 @ @@ 69 is associated with each pair of lower cylinders, the cleaning cylinder 68 pressing against the cylinders 45 and 46 and the cleaning cylinder 69 against the cylinders 47 and 48. Two scraper members 70 cooperate with each cleaning cylinder; these members correspond to the members 7 of fig.l and extend over the longitudinal edges of two suction channels 71 and 72 coming to meet in a collecting channel 73.
As can be seen from this embodiment, the scraper members do not necessarily cooperate with the rolls, but they can also be used exclusively for cleaning the cleaning rolls, which in turn remove the fiber from the rolls. While there is in the embodiment shown in fig. 11, a certain danger of accumulation of fibers between two rolls cleaned in common, the evacuation of the fibers by the use of cleaning rolls and cleaning members. rotating is avoided. In the following embodiment the scrapers 74 and 75, which cooperate.
with the cylinder 76, are fixed on a frame 77, mounted by means of bars 78 on a machine frame not shown. A suction channel 79 is pivotally supported above the conduit 80 connected to this channel 79 in the frame of the machine, and then can be switched between an active upper position and an inactive lower position. The scraper members 74 and 75 have on their inner sides seals SI coming into contact in the -active position with the walls of the suction channel 79, then preventing the entry of air between the scraper members and the walls. To change the scraper members, they are removed with the frame 77, when the suction channel has been tilted into its lower position.
It will be appreciated that flexible pipe-shaped scrapers can also be used in most cases instead of blade-shaped scrapers. Likewise, flexible pipe-shaped members can be replaced by scrapers. of the type shown in fig. 4.
