<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The present invention relates to a self-braking electric motor operating either horizontally or vertically. This motor is intended for driving machines which, in certain cases, require stopping in proportion to the weight driven. This engine is suitable for all ages and in particular for use

household wringers. The object of the invention is to provide a simple, robust and inexpensive device which makes it possible to immobilize quickly and without vibration, for example, the basket of a household wringer.
For this purpose, the motor, object of the invention, is characterized in that its rotor is free to move directly on the shaft and is under the action of a compensation spring which normally pushes it to the side. braking as soon as the motor is switched off.
In the practical embodiment of the invention, the action of this spring has the effect of bringing its side face into contact with the fixed part of the motor.
The face of the rotor, at the point of friction, is lined with rectangles of special material commonly used for brake linings. This device allows ventilation of the friction parts.
In its operating position, said rotor is driven by a pin integral with the shaft. This pin, fitted at each end with a sliding thimble sliding in a stirrup integral with the rotor, is intended for the movement of the latter.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description of the appended drawing which represents, by way of non-limiting example, a particular embodiment of the subject of the invention.
The drawing shows in section an electric motor according to the present invention.
A rotor 10, free on a shaft 8, by means of a sleeve, 4 is driven by a device
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
cardan shaft represented by a pin 6 and dice 5 integral with the shaft as well as by a bracket 7 integral with the rotor.
In the stop position, the protruding part of the rotor fitted with its friction elements 2 rubs against the fixed part 9 of the motor. A spring j Keeps the rotor locked in the stop position.
In the on position, the magnetic field produced by a stator 11 releases the contact of the elements
2 and 9 and by the inclination of the openings of the cardan caliper 7, slides and comes to rest on part 1 of a support integral with the shaft, thus causing its absolute wedging with respect to the shaft 8.
When running, the motor drives a mass and when the current is cut off, the spring 3 pushes the rotor towards the element 9 of the stator. In contact therewith, the caliper 7 by the inclination of its openings increases the pressure of the rotor on its braking part and in proportion to the weight driven.
This device has the particularity of allowing great freedom in the movement and pivoting of the rotor. This ease of movement has the effect of causing self-braking by a mass which drives the axis and in this way increases the pressure of the rotor on its braking part in proportion to the weight driven. In order to avoid vibrations, oscillations and noise of the free rotor, the latter, as a result of the magnetic traction of the stator, slides on the dice of the caliper, pivots and comes to rest on a support whose protrusion - sance at the extreme diameter of the rotor, due to the lever

thus acquired, wedges and wedges the rotor on the shaft. Said support is integral with the tree.
This device applicable to a motor as described above is particularly suitable for braking the rotation of a centrifugal wringer basket, but it can possibly be used in many other cases.
It must be understood, moreover, that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above but that many variants are possible without departing from the scope of the invention.
