<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Numerous methods are already known for obtaining a stereoscopic effect in the production of images.
All of these methods rely on optical effects and require relatively complicated apparatus or the wearing of special glasses. But it is particularly disadvantageous that stereoscopic or plastic reproduction is only possible with imaging material which has been specially made for it.
The present invention relates to an image surface with a stereoscopic effect with which plastic reproduction is made possible with an image material admitted by the usual method. It is characterized by the fact that the surface is formed by the ends of the head of many

small bars arranged parallel to each other very close to the other and vented to move longitudinally in a frame, these bars being taken out of the frame according to the light intensity hitting their head end.
The accompanying drawing schematically represents one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Figure 1 is a plan view of an image surface; FIG. 2 is a section thereof; shows, in Figure 3 / on a larger scale, part of a section such as that of Figure 1; FIG. 4 represents an arrangement of small bars in section, with connection diagram, and FIG. 5 represents an installation for reproducing images according to the invention.
The image surface 1, according to figure 1, consists of the head ends 2 of the many small bars 3- your head ends 2 have, in figure 1, a square shape but they could also be rectangular, round or the like. , in particular hexagonal. The small bars 3 are mounted in a frame 4 (see figure 2) in such a way that they can move easily in their longitudinal direction, in which case their head ends protrude more or less from the plane of the surface of the bar. picture. The movement of the different bars is done according to the light intensity which is present at the ends of the head.
In the case of a fixed image (projection apparatus), the light intensity is constant at the various points of the image for the duration of its projection. The bars 3 therefore take a position determined according to the light intensities present at their head ends and remain in this position as long as the image is projected. Whether it is a black and white reproduction or a color reproduction is irrelevant. Figure 2 represents such a position.

3 bars of the image plane, there is a marked relief image effect.
In the case of displaced images (cinematography), bars 3 behave in principle in the same way. Due to the fact that the light intensities constantly change at different points of the image to be reproduced, the small bars do not however remain in a determined position but their position continuously adapts to the variations in the light intensities. If the reproduction of the image is interrupted, all of the small bars return to their initial position, which is characterized in that all of their leading ends are on the image surface.
Figures 3 and 4 show the arrangement and assembly of the small bars 3. These have, at their right-hand end, a thickened head 5 and the surfaces 2 of the heads 5 are chosen with a dimension such that only, they are visible when all / bars 3 are in their initial position. The bars 3 themselves are formed of a U-shaped element 6, open at the bottom, of sheet metal or, preferably, of compressed artificial material, this element being mounted for longitudinal displacement on a second element, 7, also in U but opens upwards, fixed in frame 4.
In this second element are provided several electromagnets 8, which follow one another, and at the left end of each small bar 3, a magnet frame 9 is provided, the pole face of which is convex. In FIG. 4, it can be seen that all the electromagnets 8, on the one hand, are connected with the common blade 10 of an auxiliary voltage source and are, on the other hand, each connected with the contact pins 11 of the arc of a rotary contact. Pins 11 are scanned by a contact arm 12, which is connected to the other pole, 13, of the auxiliary voltage source. If the contact arm 12 leaves its zero position by moving in the direction of the arrow, it successively excites the electromagnets 8 from left to right.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
If it returns to its initial position, the electromagnets 4 are excited in the reverse order of succession. The energized electromagnets 8 attract the magnet armature 9 of the bar 3 and move the latter in its longitudinal direction until the extreme lower point of the magnet armature 9 is exactly at the point. above the last energized electromagnet 8. In order to avoid, in the event of relatively large displacements of the bars 3, pivoting in the normal position, the small bars 3 can be provided with a suitable damping device, for example an eddy current damper.
The contact arm 12 is provided on the axis of a miniature galva nometer 14, of which only the rotating coil is shown in FIG. 4. This coil is connected to a luminous element 15, which is either mounted. in the head end of the small bar 3 or is mounted in a special array of light elements 16, on which a reduced image is projected at the same time as the image is projected on the image surface 1 Fig. 5 shows an image reproducing installation. The image reproducing apparatus 17 projects the main image onto the image surface 1 formed by the small bars and, via. a semi-transparent mirror 19, on the array of light elements 16.
This is mounted on an apparatus 19 containing the miniature galvanometer 14 '. A multi-wire cable 20 connects this apparatus to the image surface 1. This arrangement has the advantage that untimely displacement by arranged rays, etc., can be easily avoided by a screen 21.
Instead of luminous elements which, when illuminated, themselves produce a current, it is also possible to use, with the help of an auxiliary voltage source, resistance cells, in particular cells. cadmium sulphide, germanium photodiodes, etc.
