In closed-chamber electrical appliances, feedthrough terminals are provided for connection to the external circuit: these terminals consist of a conductive rod, the insulation of which is generally made of porcelain or a similar material.
The production of feed-through terminals where the insulating substance consists of a molded material, such as an ethoxylin resin for example, poses a difficult problem of expansion between the feed-through rod and the coating substance.
It is in fact necessary to take account of heating occurring in the rod and consequently of differences in expansion between the rod itself and the molded substance.
These expansions lead to cracking of the coating substance excluding its use and special provisions are not taken.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback while ensuring the anchoring of the rod in the material, molded and ensuring the seal.
According to the present invention, the feed-through terminal consisting of a conductive rod coated in a molded material is characterized in that the rod has over a short length at least one "necking" making it anchored in the molded material and at the same time ensuring etanoheity, the rest of the rod having a constant section so that any risk of cracking caused by expansion is eliminated.
Other characteristics will appear in the description which follows.
The figure of the accompanying drawing shows by way of non-limiting example a feed-through terminal coated in a molded material, according to the present invention.
In this figure is shown a portion E of the casing of the electrical appliance through which a conductive rod T. must pass. The face of this casing E located towards the inside of the appliance is indicated at I. The rod T is coated in a molded material M constituting the insulating part. Holes such as F made in the material M allow the terminal to be fixed to the casing E.
The conductive rod T is of constant section except in two close places 1 and 2 which have a reduced section; these "strictures" in the section anchor the rod in the molded substance and also ensure a perfect seal. The portion AC in which the "neckions" 1 and 2 are made is sufficiently short that the expansion due to the heating of the rod T does not cause any cracking of the molded substance. The constant section rod portions, namely AB and CD, -AB being moreover very long are coated with a lubricating substance, generally based on silicone, in order to allow their free expansion in the molded material. . -
It is understood that any other suitable form of the terminal can be produced without departing from the scope of the present invention.
