Un autre objet de l'invention est de prévoir un procédé de fabri- cation d'un transformateur triphasé ayant un noyau de construction cruci- forme, donnant ainsi un bon facteur d'utilisation de l'espace et permettant l'enroulement des bobinages conducteurs sous la forme de-bobinages circu- laires , avec tous les avantages inhérents à une telle exécution,tels que la capacité de l'enroulement conducteur de résister aux forces de déforma- tion résultant d'un court-circuit ou de conditions similaires,puisque le bobinage circulaire est beaucoup plus robuste que les bobinages rectangu- laires et, en plus de la solidité mécaniquen entraîne moins de risque d' endommagement de l'isolation.pendant l'enroulement que dans le cas d'un bobinage conducteur rectangulaire, puisqu;
'il exige moins de tension sur le fil et ne requiert pas de tassement du bobinage pour le rendre solide.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The invention relates to a method of manufacturing three-phase transformers or other three-phase devices.
Disclosed is a method of manufacturing a three-phase transformer of the type having two small closed core sections and a larger closed core section, the latter comprising the smaller sections and these having adjacent portions forming. a central branch, while portions of the larger core section form a pair of outer branches with the adjacent portions of said smaller sections, which method is characterized by the steps of winding magnetic tape to form two small core sections, assembling these together to form said central branch and wrapping said larger core section around the small assembled sections, annealing the three assembled core sections as a single assembly ,
while this assembly is supported by mandrels, blocks or the like, and winding a conductor coil around each of the three branches.
Heretofore, three-phase transformers have been executed using the sheet-stacked core construction, in which a multitude of flat pieces of core steel were stacked together to achieve the required core shape for all three. groups of conductive windings of the three-phase transformer. This stacking operation gave rise to a high labor cost, resulting from the long process of intercalating all these small pieces of steel. In the initial stacking operation, some mechanical stress was always imposed on the core parts during the manufacture of the transformer, which reduced the efficiency of the transformer. In addition, in the case of the core construction by stacking ,
the magnetic flux must pass through a multitude of air gaps and must propagate against the grain at the corners of the core, and this gives rise to some loss in the transformer core.
The object of the present invention is to remedy the faults mentioned above and to provide a new method of manufacturing a three-phase transformer, the core of which is formed by magnetic tape which is wound along closed cores, which method does not require any special care in assembling the various parts of the apparatus, and does not require any bending, mechanical shaping, or other work of the core after annealing, and which therefore produces a finished core free from annealing. any stress, and in which the short-circuiting of the laminations is avoided thanks to the fact that the oxide film formed thereon is retained and is not removed by scraping, since no work is required. performed after annealing.
Another object of the invention is to provide a method of manufacturing a core for a three-phase transformer, in which two inner closed cores, obtained by winding magnetic tape, are formed and are surrounded by an outer closed core obtained by magnetic tape winding, the construction ensuring high rigidity and giving a unitary core structure for a three phase transformer, which is practically free of air gaps, thus requiring only a low excitation current for the transformer, thus allowing a more economical design of the three-phase transformer by increasing the flux density, without however exceeding the admissible limits of the excitation current,
an object of the invention also consisting. to provide a process which produces a construction in which the path of the magnetic flux passes, the grain due to the rolling of the magnetic tape, thereby increasing the economy by reducing the losses in the core and the current of excitation, and allowing an economical shaping of the con-

stitutive of the nucleus.
Another object of the invention is to provide a method of manufacturing a three-phase transformer having a cruciform construction core, thereby giving a good space utilization factor and allowing the winding of the conductor windings. in the form of circular windings, with all the advantages inherent in such an execution, such as the ability of the conductive winding to resist deformation forces resulting from a short circuit or similar conditions, since the circular winding is much more robust than the rectangular windings and, in addition to the mechanical strength, entails less risk of damage to the insulation during winding than in the case of a rectangular conductive winding, since;
'it requires less tension on the wire and does not require packing of the coil to make it strong.
Another object of the invention is to provide a method of manufacturing a three phase transformer which produces less hum than three phase transformers of the stacked core type, since there are virtually no gaps in the transformer. the magnetic circuit and since the coil core construction is by its very nature a stronger and much more rigid construction than that of a stacked core.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a new method of manufacturing a three-phase transformer, which is easy to perform and in which the number of operations required is substantially reduced.
By way of demonstration, the implementation of the method according to the invention will be described below with reference in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a three-phase transformer, parts of which are broken away and shown in section.
Figure 2 shows a plan view, some parts being broken away and shown in section,
Figure 3 shows, on a larger scale, a fragmentary elevational view of the nucleus.
Figures 4 and 5 show a method of supporting the core during annealing, and
Figure 6 shows another method of supporting the core during annealing.
The drawings show that the transformer core structure comprises two inner core sections, generally indicated by the numerals A and B, and an outer core section indicated generally by the reference C. These core sections are formed by winding a closed core of magnetic tape. The material used to form the cores can be any suitable type of magnetic tape, although it is preferable to use act instead. silicon, hot rolled or cold rolled, as this material has been found to be very effective in the manufacture of transformers.
The inner cores A and B are similar and it will therefore suffice to describe one. In order to form an inner core, a magnetic tape 1 of suitable width is first wound up to obtain the necessary thickness and, when 'the winding has been completed, the outer end is brazed, spot welded or otherwise secured as shown
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
at 2, in Fig. 3. Next, a magnetic tape of greater width is wound directly on section 1 to form a closed core section 3, the end of which is also spot welded or fixed with a another way,
as shown in Fig. 3. A magnetic tape of even greater width is then wound directly on section 3 to form a closed core 4, the end of which is spot welded or fixed in some other way. the successive sections can be secured by wire ties or in another way, if desired, the brazing and spot welding having however been satisfactory.
As mentioned above, two inner cores are made by winding them onto a circular mandrel and then shaping them into a rectangular shape, as shown in Fig. 1, or they are wound directly onto a rectangular mandrel of the desired shape. .
Then the outer core section C is either wound onto a circular mandrel and then shaped into a rectangular shape, or directly wound onto a rectangular mandrel, and, when completed, is placed so as to surround the two sections. internal sections A and B, or the external section C can be directly wound on the internal sections A and B shaped as required.
In any case, the different cores are tightly wound and the outer core is pressed intimately against the inner cores, so that all of these cores form a unitary and rigid core assembly, which is handled as one. unit during annealing and during subsequent winding of the conductor windings, as described above.
The outer core section C is formed by first winding its closed inner portion 5 with magnetic tape of the same width as that of the parts 4 of the inner core sections A and B.
When this winding is completed, the end of the tape is spot welded or soldered as described above.
The next operation is to wind up a narrower magnetic tape to form a closed portion 6, the end of which is soldered, spot welded or otherwise secured. Then the narrower magnetic tape is wound up to form a portion closed 7, and its end is brazed, spot welded or fixed in some other way.
When the winding and assembly of the core sections have been completed and all of the sections have either been wound up into the final shape or wound up separately and then shaped and assembled as described above, the complete core of the The three-phase transformer is annealed so as to eliminate all the stresses due to the shaping of the magnetic tape during winding, or winding with subsequent shaping, depending on the way of operation which has been adopted. The core is supported as a unit during annealing, in order to avoid sagging of the magnetic tapes arranged near the periphery and also to prevent the displacement of the magnetic tapes of different widths with respect to each other,
which would deform the cruciform cross section of the core branches and give rise to difficulties in winding the circular conductor coils thereon. Preferably the rectangular mandrels 12, on which the inner sections A and B of the core have been wound up, are held in the core windows during annealing, as shown in Figures 4 and 5 Side plates 14 'abutting against the outer periphery of the core yokes connected together by tie rods 15,
and end plates 16 placed in abutment against the outer periphery of the outer legs.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The parts of the core are connected to each other by tie rods 17. Tightening the nuts 18 of tie rods 15 and 17 causes the different widths of magnetic tape to be pressed against each other and therefore prevents their relative movement during annealing and cooling.
The mandrels 12 in the windows are preferably formed by a rectangular frame 19, the opposite sides of which are connected by ribs 20. This construction requires only a minimum of material. and, therefore, it gives rise to only a minimum of heat loss during the annealing process. Moreover, the openings between the ribs 20 allow cooling of the core, both from the inside of the core. window only through the outside of the core.This reduces the danger of residual stresses that can result from the outer turns of the magnetic tape cooling faster than the inner turns.
According to another method of supporting the core as a whole during annealing, the mandrels are not held in the windows of the core 'and the cores are stacked in a horizontal position in the annealing furnace, on stepped blocks 21. the sectional view according to Fig. 6 shows only three blocks 21 to support each core, it will be understood that the blocks are distributed at mutual spacing under all the branches and yokes of the core. The ribbons of different widths are supported by the steps of the blocks 21 in order to avoid their relative movement during annealing. It should be noted that this variant embodiment also allows cooling of the core both through the interior window and through the exterior of the core.
After annealing, the core sections must not undergo any mechanical shaping, bending, or other work, so that no stress is placed on any part of the core sections, which would risk damage. 'adversely influence the characteristics of the transformer.
The conductive windings, comprising the primaries and the secondaries, are shown at 8, 9 and 10. These windings are wound in any suitable manner on the finished annealed embedments. For example, a machine such as a machine can be used for this purpose. described in the US patent? 2.3050999 concerning a "Method and machine for winding coils" o
After completion of conductive coils, suitable wedges 11 can be placed as shown in Fig. 2 to hold the conductive coils in the desired position relative to their cores.
It emerges from Fig. 1 that the three-phase transformer comprises a central branch formed by the straight portions in abutment or placed back to back of the core sections A and B, and two outer branches formed by the straight outer portions of the inner core sections A and B and the adjacent straight portions of the outer core section C.
It will be understood that each branch of the transformer is cruciform, which ensures good use of space.
In addition, it will be noted. that use is made of circular conductive windings, which possess all of the inherent advantages mentioned above, and that the entire structure of the core is rigid and is handled as a whole during winding of the conductive windings.
It should also be noted that there are virtually no air gaps in the magnetic path and that the magnetic flux propagates in the direction of the grain of the magnetic tape which is the minimum reluctane path.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The core construction for the three-phase transformer provides a structure having a high inherent rigidity, since the core section wound on the outside serves to assemble and hold in position the core sections wound on the inside. .
It will be understood that the invention provides a method of manufacturing a three-phase transformer, which ensures obtaining a low magnetic reluctane path for the propagation of the flux, which is very easy to achieve, requires only a minimum number of 'operations and allows the winding of circular conductive coils directly onto the branches of the core, without requiring any shaping of any portion of the core after annealing, while ensuring the achievement of a structure in which the flow path follows the grain of the magnetic tape.
The present invention therefore provides a new method of manufacturing a three-phase transformer which makes use of the core wound principle and which also uses circular conductive windings, with all the advantages which result therefrom.
