In mopeds fitted with a crankset, we have always been content to provide special protection against soiling of the vehicle and the driver - to fit any mudguard. on the front part of the frame, this at such a distance from the crankshaft that there was just enough space behind the fender. required for the operation of the pedals. It will be appreciated that such an arrangement could not be very effective and that the vehicle and the driver continued, as in the past, to receive the mud splash.
The invention aims to remedy this situation and proposes to provide such a moped with flaps that can be reversed from a rest position, in which they do not hinder the movement of the pedals, to a position. of horizontal use, determined mainly by a plane located above the crank placed horizontally.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the machine comprises a slightly oblique apron, known in flaps which can be folded down to the horizontal, being articulated to the lower edge - or in the vicinity thereof - of this apron. It is also possible to conceive of a construction in which the sills are articulated to hinges oriented longitudinally and integral with members rigidly fixed to the machine, so that the sills can be tilted sideways from a raised rest position to the position of use. The folding flaps are advantageously established so as to constitute footrests. A judicious solution consists in providing the flaps with retaining members which immobilize the crankset in its rest position.
The accompanying drawings show a side view of an exemplary embodiment of a moped according to the invention. In these drawings:
Figure 1 shows the machine with the flaps raised.
Figure 2 shows the same machine with flaps in the use position.
To the main frame 1 of the machine is fixed an apron 2, of known type, using shrouds 3. The propellant unit 4 is suspended below the frame and is dressed, together with the frame, with a fairing. sheet metal 5.
The pedal 6 is mounted in the propellant unit. The flaps 7 are mounted near the lower edge of the apron 2, on either side of the machine, using joints .8. Each flap has two retaining members 9 spaced an appropriate distance apart and intended to immobilize the pedal 6
To start, or when it is a question of helping the engine up the hill by pedaling, the flaps 7 are raised to the position shown in figure 1. As soon as the driver can or wishes to stop pedaling, he brings the pedal to the horizontal position and lowers the flaps 7, as shown in figure 2. Following this maneuver, the respective retaining members 9 engage, on either side of the machine, on the pins. corresponding pedal, thus immobilizing the pedal.
The driver then puts his feet on the sills 7 and can thus use the machine like an ordinary motorcycle or, more exactly, like an ordinary scooter.
Another solution would consist, for example, in hinging the flaps 7 to the casing 5 (or even to the frame) around a longitudinal axis, so that they can be raised against the casing to allow the use of the pedals and be lowered. by pivoting outwards when it is desired to bring them into the position of use.
