<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

title Q'e7Cm'1e :. non-limiting, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented in practice.
FIG. 1 shows in axial section an embodiment of the brake according to the invention.
The figure ? is a similar section, through II-II of Figure 3, and another form.
Figure 3 is a partial cross section through III-III of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a variant of Figure 3.
@a Figure 5 shows, in the same way as Figure -, a fr @ in whose frame is pierced with channels.
Figure 6 shows separately, side view, the frame of figure 5.
Figure 7 shows a variant of Figure 5.
FIG. 8 shows, also in axial section, a brake with twin electromagnetic devices.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
FIGS. 9 and 10 represent in axial section and in partial transverse course a reinforcement with copper elements.
For the clarity of the presentation, we will assume in what goes copper that the electromagnetic device is integral with the stator of a brake while the armature is integral with the rotor of this brake, but it is understood that, if the electromagnetic device is supplied by rings and brushes, the arrangement of a brake can be reversed and the invention applied to a clutch between two rotating shafts.
The brake shown in FIG. 1 comprises a stator 1 in the teleturn freely the shaft 2 of the rotor 3. The latter has the generated form @ 'a wheel whose spokes 4 are curved like the fins of a helical fan and support, cantilevered, a rim of ferro-magnetic material 5, in the form of a cylindrical ring.
This ring rotates, with an air gap as small as the expansions allow, in an annular slot 6 of the stator 1, this slot also containing a fixed annular winding 7. The part of the stator 1 which includes the slot 6 advances in the doorway - cantilever towards the rotor, relative to the central body of the stator, and it comprises deep notches 8 (FIG. 3) so as to form an outer ring 9 and an inner ring 10 of teeth covering the ring 5 partially in the peripheral direction and totally in the direction of its generators. These teeth constitute electromagnetic poles all having the same sign on the same ring: for example, the teeth of the outer ring 9 are north poles and those of the inner ring 10 are south poles.
To improve the ventilation of the ring 6, the temperature of which is likely to rise considerably, the fins 4 are oriented so as to produce a current of air blowing towards the stator instead of a draft of suction air. In addition, a second helical fan 11 is mounted on the hub of the rotor 3 so as to constitute a fan blowing two stages, at higher pressure.
A sheet metal deflector 12 surrounds this fan folds the external threads of the air current towards the ring @ by penetrating its toothed edge rarely into the external notches 8 of the stator,
In the variant shown in Figures 2 to 4, there is further provided a central frustoconical deflector 13 whose surface may, if necessary, be corrugated to channel the central threads of the air stream not only towards the ring 6, but more precisely towards the notches 8 of the inner ring of poles 10.
In addition, the free front face of the ring 6 carries blades 14 of the centrifugal fan which can be radial (Figure 3) or arcuate (Figures 4). These vanes act as cooling fins .en and, in addition, they suck the hot air which is on the intimate face of the ring 6 to force it on its outer face from where it can easily escape.
According to Figures 5 and 6, the cylindrical ring 6 is further pierced with channels 15 which have been assumed to be radial but which can also be oblique or replaced by elongated slots. These channels contrite if they can pass the hot air from the internal face to the external face of the ring 6, in combination with the effect of the helical fan 4 and the deflector 13.
In FIG. 7, the helical fan 4 of the rotor is replaced by a centrifugal fan. For this purpose, the ring 6 is wedged on the shaft 2 by means of a disc 16 to which are fixed, on both sides,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
centrifugal vanes 17 and 18. The outer vanes 17 project onto the outer face of the ring 6 a stream of air channeled through an enveloping deflector 19; the inner vanes 18 produce an air flow which sweeps the inner face of the ring 6, then rejoin the stream of the outer vanes after passing through the channels 15 or the vanes 14.
As shown in Figure 8, there is no difficulty in twinning two stators 1 and 1a on either side of a double rotor 20 with centrifugal blades 18, provided with central deflectors 21, the deflectors 19 being deleted. The cooling then takes place, on each side of the rotor, by a single current of air passing through the channels 15 and the blades 14.
Finally, the ring 6 shown in FIGS. 9 and 10 comprises, encased in notches on its internal face, along generatrices, multiple bars of copper or other conductive metal 22, interconnected at their ends by rings. of the same metal 23, to form a sort of squirrel cage. These bars and rings can advantageously be cast directly into the corresponding grooves of the frame 6.
They can also be arranged on the external face thereof, but it is then necessary to take precautions against the effects of centrifugal force by giving them, for example, a dovetail section.
It goes without saying that, without departing from the scope of the invention, it is possible to make modifications to the embodiments which have just been described and to combine their particularities in various ways. In particular, instead of being cylindrical, the annular frame 6 may have the shape of a body of revolution of any profile.
