<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Or, ce
EMI2.1

L'entrée 23 comporte un or-

PROCEDURE AND INSTALLATION FOR INTRODUCING DOSE QUANTITIES OF MATERIALS
IN CONTAINERS.
If the automatic filling of the containers with any material poses practically no problem other than those resulting from mechanization, the dosometric load is, on the other hand, considerably more complex. Indeed, the process ;, respectively the installation, must take into account not only volumetric variations for subsequent work but also and above all physical variations. However, in these, it is above all necessary to take into account changes in density such as the working conditions can noticeably be modified from one cycle to another.
For a loading process under such conditions to be acceptable, it must be almost instantaneously adaptable to any material, respectively to any type of receptacle and to all loading conditions. However, the materials are essentially variable from the high fluidity to the consistency of a solid paste.
The present method enables these conditions to be fulfilled in a rational manner within predetermined limits of viscosity, it being understood that the method does not apply to the loading of the container with non-finely divided solids. Essentially, this new method consists in predetermining the volumetric dosage of the material, at atmospheric pressure, and in producing the load proper under the very control of the correct positioning of the container.
If we take into account that the quantity of such loads per normal working day is considerable, we will consider that this process is eminently rapid and that, above all, it introduces a strict minimum of moving parts so that, despite the quantity of relatively very considerable work produced in a given time, the inertial forces are practically zero. The installation capable of applying such a process is relatively very simple and it exhibits the rather superior characteristic.

taking to introduce practically only translational movements by positively guide members and whose displacement amplitudes are extremely small.
It also results from this that the installation has practically no sensitive member, no notorious cause of heating and certainly no cause of premature wear. Now this

are essential conditions for the implementation of an installation intended for continuous work, each untimely stoppage of which results in a significant reduction in the number of loads per hour.
With a view to applying the aforesaid method, the installation therefore comprises at least one movable support for the receptacle, a ceiling into which opens the duct for conveying the material obtained, via a control valve, from a volumetric metering device with capacity. variable., respectively controlled? contactors controlled at the origin and, at the end of the movement of said mobile support, a device controlling the control of the movements of said mobile support, a device controlling the movements of the piston of the volumetric metering device and the pipes necessary to ensure the successive phases of the cycle characterizing the method of the invention.
To better highlight these characteristics, such an installation is summarily shown schematically in the accompanying drawing in which 1 represents the movable support whose rod 2 carries a piston 3 at its midpoint.

For its part, the rod II of piston 1Q carries a contactor J.7. capable, at the end of the stroke, of operating contactor 1, C of a distributor µ. Between the material store 3Q and the doser 9. is interposed a tap or valve ZI. The third distributor 12 is, by the conduits, 2 .- .: ii, connected to the valve Li which in turn is connected to the inlet 26 by the conduit ß, to the cylinder .4 by the conduit 3n, to the valve 21 via line 1a and, finally, to valve b via line 0.
The operation of this installation is extremely simple and can be understood as follows: initially, the piston 10 of the volumetric metering unit

6 juxtaposed with the inlet of said container. In the first phase of the translational movement of the movable support 1, the contactors 12-13 have mutually operated and the distributor 15 a drifts a charge of compressed air towards the valve 21 which is instantly closed. In this way, the volumetric metering device 2 is isolated and the quantity of material to be introduced into the receptacle is mathematically determined, no other passage remaining than the conduit 1 via the valve 8.
At the end of the stroke, the contactors 12-14 operate mutually and the distributor, through input 24, sends a charge of compressed air simultaneously into the valve ± which it opens and into the valve 31 which it also opens, allowing the passages of the compressed air coming from the inlet behind the piston 20 of the volumetric metering device. This discharges the material into the receptacle via the valve 8, the pipe 7 and the nozzle 6.
At the end of the stroke, the IL-Here contactors operate mutually and the distributor 19, in relation to the inlet 25 via the conduit 45, drifts a charge of compressed air on the valve which, while operating, puts the pressure on the valve. 'entry 26 in communication, on the one hand, with the top of cylinder 4, which causes the return of the movable support 1, with the valve which is again returned to the open position and, finally, with the valve which is again returned to the closed position.
The piston 10 of the volumetric metering device is returned to its starting position by the introduction of a new dose of material, which acts either by gravity or positively discharged by any suitable device.
Or, as shown diagrammatically in dotted lines, the rod 22 may include a second piston 46 capable of sliding in a cylinder 47. The latter is, by its upper part, in relation, via the conduit 48, with the valve 36 of in such a way that at the same time as the piston 3, said piston 46 is returned to the starting position, thus automatically driving in the same movement the piston 10 of the volumetric metering device and the contactor 17.
It goes without saying that the typical cell thus conditioned can be adapted for the dosometric load of a plurality of receptacles, the number of volume metering units 2 being practically indeterminate. A variant also consists of starting from a single such volumetric metering device in connection with a certain number of conduits 2. via a material distributor such that a given dose is automatically divided into a corresponding number of equal or different fractions depending on the problems of loading to perform.
The various devices will be packaged in accordance with all the rules of the art and will include, in particular, the means of sealing, control and safety specific to all pneumatic installations. The initial displacement of the motile support 1 could obviously be done by direct action, mechanical, hydraulic or other, independently of the pneumatic installation described. Contactors 12-13-14-17-18 can act mechanically, magnetically, electrically or in any combination deemed suitable. The valves and taps will obviously be adapted to the nature of the materials of which they must control the passage, respectively the stop. A semi-automatic or fully automatic installation can also be achieved.
