ESCABEAU A DOUBLE USAGE.
La présente invention se rapporte aux escabeaux à gradins, utilisables comme petite échelle et comme siège. Elle a pour objet un escabeau de ce genre dont le gradin supérieur offre un siège confortable et de dimensions normales qui ne gêne pas l'usage de l'escabeau comme échelle et ne risque pas d'être souillé par les pieds lors de cet usage.
A cet effet, suivant l'invention, le gradin supérieur de l'escabeau est pliant et sa partie antérieure peut être soit rabattue dans le plan de sa partie postérieure pour former le siège, soit repliée sur celle-ci pour protéger le siège et servir de gradin. Dans une forme d'exécution particulière de l'invention, les montants postérieurs de l'escabeau sont prolongés audelà du gradin supérieur et reliés entre eux dans le haut par une planche qui forme un appui pour les genoux en cas d'usage de l'escabeau comme échelle et un dossier si l'escabeau est utilisé comme siège.
Le dessin annexé représente à titre d'exemple différentes formes d'exécution de l'invention.

Le gradin supérieur 3 comporte une partie postérieure fixe 4 et une partie antérieure repliable 5, reliées entre elles par une charnière 6 qui est de préférence une charnière à piano. Repliée sur la partie 4, la partie 5 protè ge celle-ci et dégage le gradin intermédiaire 2, permettant ainsi d'employer l'escabeau comme échelle. En rabattant la partie 5 dans le plan de la partie 4, on obtient le siège représenté sur la fig. 2. Dans cette position, la partie 5 surplombe le gradin 2 qui ne gêne donc par la personne assise, tandis que le gradin 1 sert le cas échéant d'appui-pieds..

Dans la variante suivant la fig. 3, les montants postérieurs 7 sont prolongés au-delà du gradin supérieur. Ils sont reliés entre eux par la traverse 8 qui sert de dossier ou d'appui pour les genoux selon que l'escabeau est employé comme siège ou comme échelle.
Bien entendu, l'invention n'est pas limitée aux formes d'exécution qui ont été décrites et représentées à titre d'exemples et on ne sorti-rait pas de son cadre en y apportant des modifications, notamment en augmentant le nombre des gradins.
