<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

HOPPER UNDER CONTAINERS, SILOS, TANKS, AND SUPPORT FOR THIS HOPPER AND THE UPPER ASSEMBLY.
It is known that certain containers, such as tanks, silos, etc ... comprise, at their lower part, a hopper for the flow of the materials stored therein. These containers usually rest by their lower edge on a cylindrical or polygonal support surrounding the hopper, or on pillars. But the walls of the hoppers must themselves be supported by pillars because it is the hoppers that support the weight of the stored material stored in the containers. Current constructions therefore comprise both means for supporting the containers - cylindrical supports for example - and means for supporting the hoppers - generally a very complex set of pillars supporting the different parts of the walls of the hoppers. These constructions are therefore relatively complicated and they are expensive.
The present invention relates to a novel support device, simple and rational, which simultaneously supports a hopper and the corresponding cell, the hopper itself participating in the support efforts.
Since the hopper is part of the device, it is therefore a kind of container hopper device, and a support for this hopper and the container.
This device is essentially constituted by a conical or pyramidal hopper, the upper edge of which receives the lower edge of the container, and by a support in the form of a truncated cone or truncated pyramid resting by its large base on the ground, or on another any support, and the small base of which surrounds the hopper at an intermediate level of its height, the hopper resting on the edge of the small base of this truncated cone which thus supports the whole, the hopper effectively participating in the efforts.

Moreover, other features and advantages of the device according to the invention will emerge from the following description of an embodiment of this device with reference to the appended drawing by way of non-limiting example. This drawing represents such a device in axial vertical section.
The device shown comprises a conical metal hopper 1, the upper edge of which is fixed to the lower edge of the cylindrical cell 2. More exactly, a taut metal belt 3 is welded around the upper edge of the hopper 1 and this belt is bolted. or welded to a belt 4 of L-section or the like fixed to the lower edge of the container 2. The belt 4 could moreover not exist.
The hopper 1 is fitted into the edge 5 of the small base of a support 6 in the form of a truncated cone, the large base of which rests on the ground or on any other support. The support 6 can be in one or more parts. The hopper 1 can simply be fitted into the support 6 or be secured to it by welding, or by riveting, or even by means of bolts. Preferably, a compressed intermediate metal belt 7 is interposed between the hopper and the edge 5 of the small base of the support 6, this belt 7 being secured to the hopper 1, by welding for example.
The edge of the large base of the support 6 is preferably welded to a taut metal belt 3 resting on the ground or on any support. In the example shown, this belt rests on the ground and the grains leaving the hopper through its opening 9 are evacuated, out of the enclosure delimited by the support 6, by an Archimedean screw (not shown) passing through the opening 10, of any shape, of the support 6 The rod 11 for operating the valve 12 of the hopper also passes through this opening. However, the support 6 can just as easily rest on beams or pillars, or a frame or any other suitable construction, the stored materials flowing by gravity within the enclosure of this construction.
'This construction can be high enough to allow access for transport vehicles, where mechanical means of transport can be provided.
As can be seen, the support 6 in the form of a truncated cone supports both the hopper and the corresponding cell, the walls of the hopper itself participating in the forces. The very shape of the support and of the hopper enables them to assume this role perfectly, the thickness of the walls of the support and of the hopper being determined as a function of the forces which these two elements are liable to undergo. Obviously, the respective taper of the support 6 and of the hopper 1 are also determined as a function of these forces.
For example, the inclination of the wall of the hopper may be 30 relative to the horizontal and that of the support may be 45 and up to 90.
The level at which the hopper is supported by the upper edge 5 of the support is also determined as a function of the forces that these two elements can undergo and so that the working of the materials of these two elements is optimum. For example, the wall of the hopper can be supported by the support at the very middle of its length.
The stability of the cell and the hopper is perfect even if the hopper is simply nested in the upper edge of the support 6.
The present device is particularly rational and it replaces with profit, both the usual means of supporting the cell and those of the hopper. This device is significantly less expensive than all of these old support means, and, even from a simple aesthetic point of view, this device has undeniable advantages.
It is obvious that the device according to the invention can receive any modification of details deemed useful depending on the case and application, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and therefore, without departing from the scope of protection of this patent. So when
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
that the cell is of polygonal section, the hopper may optionally be in the shape of a pyramid and the support may be in the form of a truncated pyramid. The materials composing the elements 1 and 6 can be different, for example the element 1 can be in metal and the element 6 in concrete.
It is the same for the other elements 3, 4, 7, 8.
