<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

IMPROVEMENTS OF THE SELF-PRIMING CEILULE OF A ROTARY PUMP WITH A VIEW TO
ITS APPLICATION TO AN ELECTRIC HOUSEHOLD PUMP *.
There has been described in the patent filed on October 24, 1953 an electric household pump shown in Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings, and consisting essentially of a self-priming and delivery pumping cell 1 with a vertical axis driven directly by a electric motor 2 located above the cell.
Between the cell and the engine is a space normally filled with water up to the level of the discharge nozzle 4.
Cell 1, motor 2 and its switch 3 are enclosed in a generally cylindrical envelope.
The present invention relates to improvements made to the pumping cell proper, which improvements are described below.
1. The pumping cell is a combination of two known types of rotary priming pump, namely the eccentric rotor type and the side channel type.
The first type ensures good suction at high speeds with good efficiency.
The second type gives a higher discharge pressure than the previous one.
In this pumping cell, the principle of the eccentric rotor has been implemented on the suction side, while the principle of lateral channels has been applied on the discharge side.
This combination makes it possible: a) to obtain both a high suction capacity and a delivery pressure adapted to the conditions of use in the household pump.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
b) greater longevity of the cell compared to the two known types mentioned above, by the fact that the peripheral seal between the suction and the discharge is longer.
Iss FIGS. 2 to 7 of the drawings represent, by way of nonlimiting example, an embodiment of the invention.
FIG. 2 is a vertical section of the cell along the axis FG of FIG. 3.
Figure 3 is a plan view, partly in section.
FIG. 4 is a view of the cover along arrow B of FIG. 6.
Figure 5 is a section developed along 1-lama CD of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a section along the axis AB of Figure 4.
Figure 7 is a plan view of the cover.
In all of these figures, the same reference numbers designate the same elements or members.
The cell comprises a pump body 6, FIG. 2, with a channel 7 serving for suction and a cover 10 with a channel 8 serving for delivery. The impeller 9 is derived from both those of the pumps of the two types referred to above.
2. To increase the efficiency of the pump, the delivery channel 8 is given a special shape (see fig. 2, 4, 5,6 and 7) such that the water is conducted directly, outside the blades 9 'of the wheel, in the discharge port, thus avoiding the pressure drop which exists in the known type and resulting from the fact that water must return from the outside of the wheel towards its hub in order to enter the port. repression.
3. In order to increase the stability and the regularity in the self-maorcage, the discharge port is fitted, at its exit, with a kind of wall 11 (see figures 3, 4 and 5).
This apparently hydrodynamically irrational bulwark has the effect of straightening the jet at the exit of the discharge lumen and thus preventing the water from rotating above the cell.
During the priming period, this high speed rotation would be harmful, because it would have the effect of partially emptying the space of the electric household pump located above the cell and which has been filled with water, as well as cause a depression in the center of this space, which would reduce the priming height
It is understood that the rampart shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5, and whose purpose is to prevent the water from rotating in the space above the cell, is only one of the possible embodiments of the means to prevent the rotation of the water, and that one could make use for this purpose of volute of diffusion, of a vertical partition ... etc.
It is naturally possible without departing from the scope of the invention to use, for the purpose of the invention, the cell described above with any other suitable arrangement of the motor or of the pump assembly.
