COATED NYLON FABRICS.
The present invention relates to coated nylon fabrics having low infrared ray reflectance. Principal Patent No. 501,717 describes a coated nylon fabric the coating of which is formed by applying to the nylon fabric a composition comprising a polyester diadipic acid, ethylem glycol and glycerol, an aromatic hydrocarbon diisocyanate and a solvent, removing solvent and subjecting the fabric to heat treatment. Additional ingredients, inter alia a pigment, can be included in the composition.
It has now been found that when the pigment comprised in the composition has good absorption of infrared rays, the coated nylon fabric obtained has, besides the qualities described in the main patent, an infrared reflectance. remarkably weak and is particularly suitable:, 9 therefore for military clothing used as protection against night spotting by infrared beam headlights.
According to the present invention, the coating composition comprises a pigment having good absorption of infrared rays.
Pigments which absorb infrared light well are known and include, for example, ferro-sodium salt of nitroso-beta-naphthol, carbon black, chlorinated cupric phthalocyanine, hydrated iron oxide, danioine black, blue. Prussian, black iron oxide and red ocher iron oxides Coated fabrics according to the present improvement have lower infrared reflectance for a much wider spectrum than fabrics dyed in the known manner with dyes with maximum absorption of infrared light.

The invention is illustrated but not limited by the examples which

suîvente-in which the parts and proportions are by weight.
EXAMPLE 1.-
EMI2.2
Is dispersed in a ball mill 0.9 parts of ferro-sodium salt of nitroso beta naphtho9 9.1 parts of barite and 0.85 parts of carbon black in 100 parts of the polyester obtained from 'ethylene glycol adipic acid and glycerol (described in Example 1 of the patent

main) and 60 parts of bu "tYl-acé" ta "te After dispersing, 45 parts of ethyl acetate 45 parts of benzene and 35 parts of m-toluylene = diisocyanate0 are added to the mixture
A nylon cloth is passed through the solution at a rate of 4 inches (approximately 10 cm) per minute, allowed to drain for 15 minutes at room temperature and then heated at 100 G for 1 hour in an oven where 'good air circulation is maintained.
A semi-transparent coated fabric is thus obtained which is pleasant to the touch and resists the inaction of solvents, alkalis, acids and hot or cold detergent liquids in aqueous solutions, and of which the reflectance of infrared rays is very low when we prepare it at

] .51 magnesium oxide on a Hardy spectrophotometric curve (see table below).
EXAMPLE 2.-
EMI2.5
Example 1 is repeated, but using the following amounts of placement:
8.5 parts of the ferro-sodium salt of nitroso-beta-naphthol.
1.4 parts of carbon black.
The coated nylon fabric obtained has a more intense tone and has an even lower infrared ray reflectance than that of the coated fabric of Example 1 (see table below) EXAMPLE 3.-
2.0 parts of chlorinated cupric phthalocyanine, 6.25 parts of hydrated iron oxide and 0.44 parts of carbon black are dispersed in a ball mill in 143 parts of the polyester diacid adipi-

than 9 dp ethylenemglcol. and glycerol and 55 parts of butyl acetate.
After dispersion, 41 parts of ethyl acetate 41 parts of benzene and 32 parts of m-toluylene-diisocyanateo are added.
After coating a nylon fabric with this solution as in Example 1, a coated fabric is obtained, the properties of which are analogous to those of the coated fabric of Example 1 (see table below).
For comparison with the coated fabrics of the above examples, a sample of nylon fabric dyed with a dye having maximum infrared absorption was prepared as follows.
A nylon fabric is dyed green with a mixture of the following dyes *.
