PROCEDE ET INSTALLATION POUR LA CALCINATION DE MATIERES COMBUSTIBLES
FINES.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
On a ajouté ici.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
REVENDICATIONS.

METHOD AND INSTALLATION FOR THE CALCINATION OF COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS
FINE.
The object of the present invention is a process for the calcination, agglomeration or roasting, in a shaft furnace, of fine combustible materials, for example limestone, ores or the like, in which the material passes through the combustion chamber of the shaft furnace in staggered layers, with the fine-grained pieces below and the coarse-grained chips on the bottom. In this process ,,, the top layer made of coarse-grained pieces is subjected directly to flame and radiation,
while the lower layer made up of fine-grained pieces moving below the first is calcined less by direct contact with the flame than by radiation due directly to the flame and indirectly to the lower layers of fuel This latter effect is naturally occurring. limited in practice due to the fact that for a given shape of the furnace and for a given slope of the sliding surface offered to the material ,.
as well as for a given combustion temperature, the effect of radiation acting from the outside on the lower layers of material depends on the absence of sufficiently permeable empty spaces to radiation between the coarse grains of the material / upper layers. On the other hand, if the very fine-grained pieces are in layers of relatively high height ,. it may happen that the lower layers arrive incompletely calcined at the lower part of the furnace.
One could think of eliminating this drawback by increasing the residence time of the material in the combustion chamber. But this solution appears unsuitable because ,,, in 1 / 'adopting not only the production of the furnace decreases ,, but also one could fear the danger of excessive combustion of the upper part of the material layer.
The present invention relates to new means making it possible to completely eliminate the drawbacks of the type mentioned above.

According to the invention, at a suitable place of the downward sliding material layer, in particular at the lower end thereof, at the place where the substance layer has its smallest thickness, heating is carried out additional material for example by means of an additional gas stream supplied to the material layer, for example% of a mixture of combustible gas and air or by using a finely divided fuel, for example of liquid or solid state this fuel being brought to the material layer by the rear face of the substance which flows.
Eh sufficiently increasing the speed of the gas stream. for example, air introduced at the additional combustion point., the finest particles directly affected by the air are caused to ascend, which brings the particles to the upper zone where combustion is more extensive. o This vortex movement can be regulated by modifying the flow rate and the speed of the air stream or the gas stream introduced or both at the same time.!) according to the thickness of the layer of material and the nature of this one. For the practical implementation of the method which has just been explained, it is possible to use devices of different types.
Several embodiments of a device according to the invention have been described below by way of example and represented in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of the combustion chamber of a shaft furnace, for example of an annular shaft furnace:
Fig. 2 is another embodiment, also in vertical section.
In the figures, reference 1 designates a flat or conical sliding surface, onto which the sorted material is brought from the tank or from the loading chamber 2 of the furnace. The material is layered so that the fine-grained pieces 3 are at the bottom. while the 4 coarser grained pieces are arranged on top of these fine grained layers. The thickness of the layer decreases as the flow of material progresses downward.
In a suitable place, we bring in from the outside. through an opening 5, flammable or combustible gases which flow upwards in the direction indicated by the arrow and thus directly reach the large-grained pieces 4 resting on the upper layer, causing them to calcine or agglomerate, while stirring, by their radiation on the fine-grained pieces placed below.
By closing the opening 5, as represented by the dotted lines 6, it is also possible to proceed by introducing solid fuel into the loading chamber 2 at the same time as the material to be treated or, as described in patent no.503,147, to ensure this introduction through a side loading opening 70
To ensure in all cases a complete calcination, agglomeration or roasting of the underlying fine-grained pieces, there is in the example embodiment according to FIG. 1, imparted a change of direction to the flow surface 1. advantageously in the zone where the combustion is the most intense ,,, for example in front of the entry of the flames entering through the opening 5, so that the adjacent surface 8 forms a re-entrant angle.
The surface 8 is advantageously inclined to the horizontal at a relatively small angle, so as to allow the completely calcined material sliding on the lower flow surface 9, not to completely fill ... up to the surface 8, 1? Space between 8 and 9.
To the empty space left between the surfaces 8 and 9 is connected a hopper 10 allowing the cooling and the evacuation of the substance to be treated ..; this hopper being crossed by a stream of air 11 which cools the material and thus suddenly preheating The stream of air passes through the empty space 12 upwards and bypassing the sharp edge 1,8 enters the layer of matter.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In accordance with the invention, the particles which are at the very bottom of the moving material at the moment when, moving downwards, they leave the sliding surface 1, undergo additional heating on their rear face. , that is to say on the face which contains the finest pieces of substance located all below. * According to the invention, this additional heating can be carried out using a current of 'air supplied to the location shown or with the aid of fuels introduced at this location, for example gas or solid or liquid fuels with or without a separate air supply.
The heating takes place advantageously on the part of the wall 8 which is adjacent to the sliding surface 1, for example by means of pipes 13, 14 which supply a combustible gas or a combustible gas and air.
If the intensity and speed of the air stream 11 are sufficient or if the gas stream introduced through the conduits 13 and '14 is sufficiently intense ,,, the fine-grained pieces which are directly affected are not subjected to not just additional heating .. but take an upward swirling motion and are brought to areas where the temperature is higher. The sliding surface 9 must therefore be given a configuration and a length such that the resistance offered to the air stream 11 in its passage through the material on the surface 9 is much greater than that offered to the air current. air as it passes through the material layer at location 1.8.
The flow rate of the added gas or other fuel such as air is regulated so as to completely treat even the layers of fine-grained substances.
In the device of fig 2. the organs identical to those of FIG. 1 are designated by the same reference numerals. We added here. at the end of the surface 1, a porous and refractory plate 15, through which the air stream or the air-gas stream 11 passes
In the cooling zone 10, it is also advantageously possible to provide a bypass allowing, through an overflow pipe 16, to the channel 5 through which the flames arrive, part of the preheated combustion air 11. so as to use this air as the primary combustion air for the gases. A valve 17 regulates the flow of diverted air and at the same time makes it possible to regulate the flow of air in the combustion zone.
The supply of fuel to the air can be achieved by a large number of other devices. The cross sections in Figures 1 and 2 can, for example, show the vertical sections of an annular shaft furnace, in which case the fuel and air supplies can be evenly distributed over the entire periphery of the conical surface 8 connected to the annular furnace.
On the other hand, the cross sections of Figures 1 and 2 can also represent a furnace with an oblique combustion channel, in which case the sliding surface 1, as well as the adjacent surface 8 forming a re-entrant angle, are substantially flat, and the channel above the surface 1, or the channel connecting to the previous one and between the surfaces 9 and 8, may have a -convenable section, for example square or convex.
The effect of the second treatment undergone by the finer substances on their rear face can be further increased by reducing the temperature in the combustion chamber 4 by means of an additional introduction of burnt gases through the inlet opening 5. The burnt gases, for example, can be pre-located at the top of the oven or at the chimney of the installation. The additional introduction of flue gases slows down the combustion process at the point of introduction.
The combustion is therefore intensified proportionally in the combustion chamber 12 which, for its part, does not receive any burnt gases,
The process according to the invention consisting of further heating and swirling up of the fine-grained layer of the fuel can also be carried out in furnaces of any shape and by carrying out the calcination process. -
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ration or roasting in any way so as to again lift, by a vortex movement during combustion, the fine-grained layers near the walls and to bring them into the combustion chamber where the operation takes place.
The fuel which, according to the process which is the subject of the invention, is additionally introduced on the underside of the material stream, can be solid, liquid or gaseous. Its introduction can take place in a suitable manner with and without additional introduction of air.
Where appropriate, the process according to the invention. consisting of an additional heating of the lower layer of moving material, at the end of its combustion path ,,, can only call on a current of air introduced on the underside of the moving material, this current air of sufficient intensity to bring the very fine parts to the areas where the temperature is higher. At the same time, preheating the air makes it possible to obtain a temperature equalization in the superimposed layers of moving material.
In the path, shown schematically in Figure 1, followed by the substance in a shaft furnace, one could also introduce the air current which causes the additional heating by removing the pipes 13 and 14, for example by suitably strengthening the current air 11 in the discharge hopper 10. The air flow penetrates entirely through the layer of material, so that, following the cover which surmounts the chamber 9, it reaches the underside of the substance which leaves -adjusting the flow path 1, which here causes additional combustion.
The additional heating, provided for by the invention, of the substance to be treated by the posterior face of the material flowing downwards or, as one could also say, the heating of the substance which flows towards the bottom, both on the front side and on the lower side, makes it possible, where appropriate, to also make the calcination and agglomeration process possible when the material has another arrangement of layers than that provided for in patent nr 503.147 . A material of homogeneous constitution ,,, in particular coarse-grained may also be treated in the manner described, if appropriate. which, when it passes through the furnace from top to bottom, does not present any staging in well-defined layers.
Even in this case the method has significant advantages, since the heating of the substance from the anterior face, together with the additional heating from the posterior face. allows a uniform treatment of the material throughout the thickness of the layer.
