NOZZLE FOR OXY-CUTTING TORCH.
The present invention relates to a nozzle for a flame cutting torch suitable for carrying out flame cutting operations by maintaining its gas jets outlet end at a distance from the surface of the workpiece considerably greater than the reduced distance required for the initiation of cutting, for example of the order of five to six times this last distance.
This nozzle is of the known type in which the output of the oxygen jet takes place by a divergent process via a coaxial cylindrical duct of length 1 and of diameter d equal to the smallest section of the divergent, and itself preceded by a coaxial duct of length L and of greater diameter D, but it is characterized in that the ratio D is between 6 and 10. d
With a nozzle based on these characteristics, it is possible to use, for the heating gas mixture, either separate jets distributed around the central oxygen jet, or a single annular jet coaxial with the oxygen jet.
However, optimum results are obtained and the risk of defusing in flame cutting at a great distance is practically eliminated, if, according to another characteristic specific to the invention, the heating jets are parallel to the cutting jet and their generatrices them. closer to the cutting jet are spaced from the periphery of the latter jet by at most 0.5 mm. Another feature of the invention is that the nozzle defined above is supplied with cutting oxygen at an inlet pressure of at least 4.5 kg / cm3.
The single figure of the appended drawing represents, by way of example only, in axial section, an oxycutting nozzle according to the invention.
In this embodiment, the nozzle has a central part 1 provided with a head which fits into the female conical bearing surface of the head.

the torch so as to determine, according to a well-known arrangement, annular spaces 2 and 3 into which the oxygen and the combustible gas, generally acetylene, the mixture of which must provide the heating flame are admitted; the cutting oxygen is admitted at the top of the head in the axial duct 4.
The outlet of the central cutting oxygen jet takes place, according to a known arrangement, through a diverging portion 5 preceded by a cylindrical duct 6, the diameter of which is equal to the smallest diameter of the diverging portion 5; this cylindrical duct is itself preceded by a second cylindrical duct 7 exactly coaxial with the duct 6 and the diverging part 5 and whose diameter 'D is greater than d. The pipe 7 is connected to the inlet with the pipe 4 for supplying cutting oxygen in the nozzle, by a convergent 8.
According to the main characteristic of the invention, the respective lengths L and 1 of the conduits 7 and 6 and their diameters D and d are such that they satisfy the two relationships:
EMI2.1
In the embodiment envisaged, the heating jet is annular with generators parallel to the axis of the cutting jet. For this purpose, the output of the heating mixture takes place through the annular space 9 formed between the external cylindrical surface of an outlet nozzle 10 of the part 1 and the internal cylindrical surface 11 of the heating nozzle 12.
The length of the annular duct 9 is determined so as to satisfy the laminar flow conditions, but, in accordance with a feature of the invention, the thickness of the nozzle 10 is determined so that the distance between the periphery of the jet cutting oxygen and the generatrices of the annular heating jet closest to the periphery is at most equal to 0.5 mm.
In the drawing, this value has been amplified by the choice of a suitable scale, for greater clarity. It is good that the cylindrical surfaces which delimit the annular heating jet, are exactly coaxial with the cutting jet and, for this purpose, the heating nozzle 12 is centered on the part 1 or cutting nozzle, by surfaces 13 as widely spaced as possible. The part 12 is abutted at 15 on the head of the cutting nozzle 1 so as to form therewith a chamber 14 in communication with the inlet of the annular duct 9 and into which the oxygen mixing ducts 15 emerge. and heating fuel.
