MACHINE A PISTON A GAZ CHAUD.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

HOT GAS PISTON MACHINE.
The invention relates to a hot gas piston chine reinforced at least two chambers of variable volume, communicating by a heater, a recuperator and a refrigerant, enclosures in which a gas of invariable ethnic composition describes a closed thermodynamic cycle and the recuperator surrounds a chamber of variable volume, while the heat exchanger which is connected both to the recuperator and to this chamber of variable volume, also surrounds this chamber. The hot gas tracking machine can be produced in the form of a hot gas engine, of '' 'refrigeration machine or heat pump.
According to the invention, the axes of the channels provided in the heat exchanger form an acute angle with the axis of the chamber of variable volume corresponding to the heat exchanger and the channels are directed towards this chamber.
In this form of construction, the parts of the channels serving for heat exchange can be connected practically without dead space, to the corresponding variable volume enclosure. This makes it possible to avoid the dead space, which, in general, exists in known hot gas piston machibes and which exerts some detrimental influence on the operation of the machine.
Considerations of a thermodynamic order sometimes encourage a heat exchanger, in particular the freezer of a cold gas refrigeration machine, to have a smaller passage section than the recuperator so that, when both the recuperator and this exchanger have a same. internal diameter; the radial thickness of the heat exchanger is smaller than that of the recuperator. As a result, the connection of the heat exchanger to the recuperator is somewhat abrupt, which affects the operation of the connected part of the recuperator.
Following a

Another embodiment of the invention, this drawback can be avoided when each of the axes of the channels intersects the passage surface of the recuperator located on the side of these channels at a point which is located approximately halfway from the side walls of the collector.
In a particularly simple embodiment of the hot gas piston machine according to the invention, the heat exchanger comprises two concentric walls and the inner face of the inner wall limits part of the chamber of variable volume. whereas in at least one of these walls are formed the channels which open out onto the limiting surface between the two walls. Preferably, the limiting surface is conical.
The description of the appended drawing, given by way of non-limiting example, will make it clear how the invention can be carried out, the features which emerge both from the text and from the drawing, of course part of the invention.
The figures schematically show an embodiment of the hot gas piston machine according to the invention as well as of a heat exchanger made in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 1 shows a hot gas piston machine produced in the form of a cold gas refrigeration machine.
Figs. 2 and 3 show on a larger scale the heat exchanger.
The cold gas refrigeration machine shown in fig. 1 is of the so-called sweeper type; it comprises a cylinder 1 in which moves, with a constant offset, a sweeper 2 and a piston 3. The sweeper 2 is coupled, by means of a system of connecting rods 4, to the crank of a crankshaft 5 and the piston 3 is coupled by connecting rods 6 and 7, to cranks of the same crankshaft.
The enclosure 8 formed above the sweeper 2 is the chamber. freezing and the latter communicates through the freezing 9, the recuperator 10 and the refrigerant 11, with the cooled enclosure 12 formed between the sweeper and the piston. The refrigeration machine is driven by an electric motor 13. In the freezing chamber and in the freezer, a low temperature is thus obtained, for example - 190 C so that the air which is in the casing 14 condenses. and is captured in the annular canal 15.
The condensed air is discharged through line 16 while the air to be condensed is supplied through opening 17. The refrigerant is cooled by a refrigerant fluid which is supplied to the refrigerant at 18 and which leaves the latter at 19.
The bearing surface of the piston 3 is cooled by a water jacket 20.
The water is brought through line 21 and is discharged through line 22.
The freezer will be described in detail with the aid of Figs. 2 and 3 plotted on a larger scale.
Fig. 2 is a section taken along the plane II-II of FIG. 3, while fig. 3 is a section on the plane III-III of FIG. 2.
These figures only represent a single chamber of variable volume and the corresponding heat exchangers; to facilitate, the sweeper has been omitted. In this form of construction, the enclosure of variable volume 8, for example the freezing chamber communicates, via the freezer 9 and the recuperator 10, with a refrigerant and a cooled chamber not shown in the drawing. -The freezer 9 is surrounded by a wall 23 whose interior 24 was conical.
In this wall are formed channels 25 for the freezer, channels which open onto the inner face 24, while outside this wall are fins 26 on which the fluid to be cooled condenses inside the wall. wall 23, a second wall 27 is provided, the exterior of which is conical while the interior 28 is cylindrical. The axis 29 of the channel 25 forms an acute angle with the axis 30 of the enclosure 8, while the axis 29 intersects the end surface 31 of the recovery.

tor 10, on the side of channel 25 at a point which is located practically midistance des'parois du recuperator 32 and 33. The distances 34 and 35 are practically equal. In addition, channel 25 is directed to enclosure 8.
In this embodiment, the wall 23 and the channels 25 @ that it comprises are made so that the ends 36 of these channels are connected, without dead space to the enclosure 8, of variable volume.
It goes without saying that the channels 25 can also be formed in the inner wall 27; in this case, the outer wall 23 has a smooth inner surface. Although the form of construction described is used in the case of a sweeper machine, it is also suitable for other types of machines, for example for so-called double-acting machines.
