PROCEDE DE TEINTURE DE COMPOSES POLYVINYLIQUES.
La demanderesse a trouvé qu'on pouvait teindre en nuances rou- ges très solides des produits de polymérisation de composes vinyliques ac- compagnes de plastifiants, si l'on ajoutait à ces mélanges des colorants mono-ezoiques insolubles dans l'eau répondant à la formule générale du des- sin annexé;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

METHOD FOR DYING POLYVINYL COMPOUNDS.
The Applicant has found that it is possible to dye very solid red shades of the polymerization products of vinyl compounds accompanied by plasticizers, if one adds to these mixtures water-insoluble mono-ezo dyes corresponding to the general formula of the appended drawing;
in this formula X represents an alkyl or alkoxy radical or a halogen atom, Y a hydrogen or halogen atom Z1 a methoxylic radical, one of the two substituents Z2 and Z3 also a methoxylic radical and the other - a methyl or methoxylic radical or a halogen atom. Polyvinyl compound gum compounds include all those in which plasticizers can be incorporated, for example polyvinyl chloride or acetate, polyvinyl ethers, polyacrylic and polymethacrylic esters, polyacrylic nitrile and the products. corresponding copolymerization.
The dyes can be incorporated into the mixture comprising the polymerization product, the plasticizer and, optionally, additional substances, to prepare articles of manufacture or they can be added to the pastes of the polymerization products accompanied by plasticizers to prepare. layers on textiles, paper, etc.
In addition, they are suitable for dyeing the aqueous dispersions obtained from polyvinyl compounds and plasticizers and which are to be applied to textiles and the like; they are also suitable for dyeing solutions, in organic solvents, of polyvinyl compounds accompanied by plasticizers and serving as immersion varnish, varnish for spray painting and spreading varnish.
It is of essential importance, for the pigment dyes to be usable for the dyeing of polyvinyl compounds,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
that the dyes used are indifferent vis-à-vis the plasticizers present in the mass. Since these plasticizers, such as dibutyl phthalate or di-octyl phthalate, are solvents for many organic dyes, they have the effect of carrying these dyes to the surface of the dyed mass so that that - here abandonment of the color in the event of friction or else they migrate in parts that are not colored or colored differently, that is to say that they disgorge.
Thus, in particular in the series of azo dyes known as "ice dyes" for dyeing and printing textiles and which are also widely applied as pigment colors, there is a significant shortage of sufficiently sufficient products. stable to plasticizers.
In view, however, of the great importance which these dyes present, on account of the clear and nourished shades which they provide as well as their generally very good lightfastness, a great technical progress is made by the present process, in that by the application of a particular group of colors to the ice, it makes it possible to dye polyvinyl compounds in solid shades which do not give efflorescence and do not disgorge in the unstained or colored parts rees differently.
EXAMPLE 1 - Using kneading rolls, a mixture comprising 100 parts by weight of polyvinyl chloride, 50 parts by weight of di-n-butyl phthalate, 0.3 part by weight of dioxide is homogenized for 10 minutes at 1500. titanium and 0.45 parts by weight of the mono-azo dye prepared from diazotized 1-amino-2-methoxy-benzene-5-carboxylic acid amide and 1- (2'.3 ' -hydroxy-naphthoylàmino) - 2.4-dimethoxy-5-chlorobenzene. A soft rubber-like mass is obtained having a bluish-red color which does not bleed into uncolored polymerization product and has good light fastness.
If, instead of the mentioned dye, a dye obtained by coupling the diasoid compound of 1-amino-2-methoxybenzene-5-carboxylic acid amide and 1- (2'.3'- hydroxy-naphthoylamino) -2.5-dimethoxy-4-chlorobenzene, a dye is obtained which has the same strength properties but exhibits a much more yellowish shade.
Next to titanium dioxide or in its place, it is possible, where appropriate, to incorporate fillers such as kaolin, chalk, 'talc, etc. into the mass to be mixed. The mass can be extended. by means of rollers to form thin sheets or it can be processed on site in extrusion presses or die-casting machines.
EXAMPLE 2 75 parts by weight of polyvinyl chloride, 25 parts by weight of ci-octyl phthalate and 1 part by weight of the dye obtained from 1-amino-2-ethoxyben- acid amide are mixed. Diazotized zene-5-carboxylic and 1- (2'.3'-hydroxy-naphthoylamino) -2.4-dimethoxy-5-chlorobenzene, the whole is homogenized with. kneader rolls at 150 and then stretched over rollers to form a sheet 0.3 mm thick. This leaf has a transparent red color which does not efflorescence, does not bleed and has good solidity. said in the light.
If a copolymerization product of vinyl chloride and methyl acrylate is used instead of polyvinyl chloride, a dye of the same shade and similar good fastnesses is obtained.
EXAMPLE 3 A mixture of 60 parts by weight of polyvinyl chloride, 40 parts by weight of di-octyl phthalate and 0.5 part by weight of the dye mentioned in Example 1 is homogenized; this mixture is applied in a thin layer, if necessary with the squeegee, on an uncolored cotton fabric, the gelatinization of the red-bluish mass applied
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
being carried out in a few minutes by passing through a heating channel at 1700. The dyeing of the fabric thus prepared has, even after prolonged storage, perfect fastness to rubbing, since the dye used does not give off efflorescence and does not migrate into the textile material.
If, instead of polyvinyl chloride, a copolymerization product of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate is incorporated into the mass to be applied, a product having the same properties is obtained.
The following table indicates a number of other dyes which can replace those of Examples 1 to 3 and which also provide dyes having good fastness properties.
